Edward Clayton

Information for this family was obtained from a Family Group Record prepared by Gloria H. Jensen (444 North 400 East, Brigham City, Utah, 84302) in 1982.

The Family Group Record on Edward Clayton and Martha Swinscow prepared by Gloria H. Jensen (of 444 North 400 East, Brigham City, Utah, 84302) in 1982 states the following: "Family [of Edward Clayton] returned from Stockport 16 Apr 1797 to Fairfield to live on property willed to husband by his father."

Martha Swinscow

Research Note:  According to the 1983 book "George Clayton, 1810-1861, Roots and Shoots" (pages 117 and 128; see FHL book # US/CAN, Q: 929.273, C579j), Martha Swinscow was born in about "1759 of Fairfield, Derbyshire, England" to an "Anne Swinscow," who was supposedly christened on 28 January 1731/2 in Fairfield as the daughter of David Swinscow and Ann White.  This assumption is supposedly supported by genealogical information contained in the "Bishop's Transcripts for Fairfield, 1678-1812, at Registry, Lichfield, Staff."  However, on August 9, 2001, researchers could only locate a Martha Swinscow who was christened in Fairfield on 3 December 1758 (FHL Film # 1041011) and who was listed as the daughter of a "Mary Swinscow"--NOT an Anne Swinscow--and that this Mary Swinscow (who also had a son named "Love Swinscow" who was christened on 6 June 1762 in Fairfield) is probably not the daughter of a David Swinscow and Ann White of Fairfield. Therefore, additional research is needed to verify the parentage and ancestry of Martha Swinscow.
