Jensen (1983, pages 122-124), which states that he was born "about 1719" and was of "Fairfield, Derbyshire, England".  Note: In her publication Gloria states that this information comes from the "Bishop's Transcripts" for "Fairfield, Derbyshire" that covered the period "1678-1812" and which was held by the "Dioceasen Registry" in "Lichfield, Staffordshire, England", and that the records from 1678 to about 1738 were "missing [and] not included in those filmed by the Genealogical Society" but "were searched by Carma Moore while [she was] in England" in 1969 who then sent such information to Gloria.

Thomas Clayton

"Thomas Clayton" was possibly born in about 1691 in Buxton, Derbyshire, England.  Unfortunately, the christening of Thomas Clayton has not yet been found, and there is a record gap in the Bishop's Transcripts for Buxton/Fairfield from 17 March 1689/90 to 3 April 1696.  Some descendants of Thomas Clayton feel that his father was Edward Clayton (who was buried in 1718 in Buxton) because that is the name Thomas gave to his first son, Edward Clayton (b.abt.1719-d.1795).  Also, the birth of "Thomas Clayton" is listed in the publication "George Clayton, 1810-1861, Roots and Shoots" by Gloria H. Jensen (1983, page 125), which states that he was born "about 1691" and that he was "of Fairfield", Derbyshire, England. (Geographical Note: Buxton and Fairfield are less than two miles apart.)

According to Gloria H. Jensen (in her publication "George Clayton, 1810-1861, Roots and Shoots", 1983, page 125), "Children [such as Thomas Clayton] were born at Buxton and christened at Fairfield [in Derbyshire, England].  Fairfield was near the Buxton area called Buxton Green.  Many of the christenings for this area of Buxton took place in Fairfield Chapelry.  Many of the people who died in Buxton were buried in Fairfield cemetery because of the condition at Buxton churchyard, which was often too wet.  Buxton Green [is] very near to St. Peter's Church in Fairfield."

Information about the 1716 marriage of "Thomas Clayton" and "Anna Staley" was provided by the Staffordshire Record Office to the George Clayton Family Organization on 13 January 2021, who extracted the christening from the Bishop's Transcripts for Fairfield, Derbyshire (SRO # B/V/7/1/278/1), and transcribed the Latin entry of "Tho Clayton et Anna Staley matrimonio conjuncit fuere 28 Jan 1715 [ie 1715/1716]" which translates as "Thomas Clayton and Anna Staley were joined in matrimony 28 January 1715/1716".  Also, the marriage of "Thomas Clayton" and "Ann Staley or Staveley" is listed in the publication "George Clayton, 1810-1861, Roots and Shoots" by Gloria H. Jensen (1983, pages 122-125), which states that they were married on 28 January 1714/1715 in Fairfield, Derbyshire, England .

The burial of "Thomas Clayton" is listed in FamilySearch (FHL Film # 4450902), which states that he was buried on 14 September 1757 in Fairfield, Derbyshire, England. (Note: The burial record of Thomas Clayton does NOT list his age when he died.)

Edward Clayton

The burial of "Edwardus Clayton" is listed and shown in the "Derbyshire, England, Church of England Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812" (via Ancestry.com), which states that he was buried on 4 December 1718 in Buxton, Derbyshire, England.

The marriage of Edward Clayton has not yet been found, possibly because there is a record gap in the Bishop's Transcripts for Buxton/Fairfield from 17 March 1689/90 to 3 April 1696.

"Edward Clayton" is listed in the publication "George Clayton, 1810-1861, Roots and Shoots" by Gloria H. Jensen (1983, page 125), which states that he was born "about 1669" and that he was "of Buxton, Derbyshire, England".  Note: In her publication Gloria states that the christening and/or burial information on the children of "Edward Clayton" comes from the "Bishop's Transcripts" for "Fairfield, Derbyshire" that covered the period "1678-1812" and which was held by the "Dioceasen Registry" in "Lichfield, Staffordshire, England", and that the records from 1678 to about 1738 were "missing [and] not included in those filmed by the Genealogical Society" but "were searched by Carma Moore while [she was] in England" in 1969 who then sent such information to Gloria.

Relationship Note:  The shown relationship of Edward Clayton (1665-1718) to his possible father, Edward Clayton Jr. (b.abt.1641), is based on extensive radius searches of available parish records and analysis of durations, locations and patronymics. This possible relationship is still being investigated by the George Clayton Family Organization as time and resources allow.

Research Note:  Edward Clayton (1665-1718) was possibly born in the area of Cowdale, Derbyshire--where his possible father, Edward Clayton Jr. (1641-1711) lived prior to 1711, or in the area of Buxton, Derbyshire--where he was buried in 1718.  Cowdale and Buxton are only about three travel miles from each other.

Mrs. Edward Clayton

The marriage of Edward Clayton has not yet been found, possibly because there is a record gap in the Bishop's Transcripts for Buxton/Fairfield from 17 March 1689/90 to 3 April 1696.
