Reuben Osmond

The christening of "Reuben Osmond" is listed in FamilySearch (via FHL Film # 916928), which states that he was christened on 3 April 1796 in Powderham, Devon, England, and that his parents were "Thomas Osmond" and "Mary".

The marriage of "Reuben Osmond" and "Alice Breakwell Coulton" is listed in FamilySearch (via FHL Film # 394833), which states that they were married on 16 January 1826 at Saint Ethelburga, Bishopsgate, London, London, England.

In the 1841 Census, "Reuben Osmond" is listed as being 45 years old (born about 1792-1796), NOT born in Somerset, working as a "Grocer", and residing with his probable wife, Alice (age 45), and two of their possible children (Mary Osmond--age 14, and "Hariett Osmond--age 12), on St. James Street in Walcot, Bath, Somerset, England.  Note: Living next to Reuben Osmond was his possible brother, Charles Osmond (age 45), and his probable wife and possible two children.

The death of "Reuben Osmond" is listed in the online FreeBMD, which states that his death was registered in January-March 1843 in Bath district, Somerset.  Note: No age at death listed.

Research Note:  "Reuben Osmond (chr.1896 in Powderham, Devon), and his brother, Charles Osmond (chr.1792 in Powderham, Devon), apparently moved in the early 1800's from Powderham (in Devon) to Bath (in Somerset)--which is a travel distance of about 84 miles.

Alice Coulton

The christening of "Alice Coulton" is listed in FamilySearch (via FHL Film # 510682), which states that she was christened on 4 March 1792 in Wheathill, Shropshire, England, and that her parents were "Thomas Coulton" and "Mary".

The marriage of "Reuben Osmond" and "Alice Breakwell Coulton" is listed in FamilySearch (via FHL Film # 394833), which states that they were married on 16 January 1826 at Saint Ethelburga, Bishopsgate, London, London, England.

In the 1841 Census, "Alice Osmond" is listed as being 45 years old (born about 1792-1796), NOT born in Somerset, and residing with her probable husband, Reuben Osmond (age 45 and a "Grocer"), and two of their possible children (Mary Osmond--age 14, and "Hariett Osmond--age 12), on St. James Street in Walcot, Bath, Somerset, England.  Note: Living next to Reuben Osmond was his possible brother, Charles Osmond (age 45), and his probable wife and possible two children.

In the 1851 Census, "Alice Osmond" is listed as being 59 years old (born about 1792), born in Whitchell [probably Wheathill--as listed in the 1871 Census], Shropshire, a "Widow" and working as a "Grocer", and residing with her two unmarried daughters (Mary Osmond--age 23, and Harriot Osmond--age 22), at: 8 St. James Street, Walcot, Bath, Somerset, England.

In the 1861 Census, "Alice Osmond" is listed as being 69 years old (born about 1792), born in Weathill [probably Wheathill--as listed in the 1871 Census], Shropshire, a "Widow" and working as a "Grocer", and residing with her married daughter, "Harriet Clark", at: 6 St. James Street, Walcot, Bath, Somerset, England.

In the 1871 Census, "Alice Osmond" is listed as being 79 years old (born about 1792), born in Wheathill, Shropshire, a "Widow" and "Lodging House Keeper", and residing with her unmarried daughter, Mary Osmond (age 43), at: 9 St. James Square, Walcot, Bath, Somerset, England.

In the 1881 Census, "Alice Osmond" is listed as being 89 years old (born about 1792), born in Wheatlake [probably Wheathill--as listed in the 1871 Census], Shropshire, a "Widow" and working as a "Lodging House Keeper",and residing in the same house at her unmarried daughter, Mary Osmond (age 53), at: 36 St. James Square, Walcot, Bath, Somerset, England.

The death of "Alice Osmond" is listed in the online FreeBMD, which states that her death was registered in January-March 1885 in Bath district, Somerset, and that she died at the age of "92" years old (born about 1793).

Geographical Note:  In 1870-1872, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Wheathill like this: "Wheathill, a parish in Cleobury-Mortimer district, Salop; 6½ miles NW by N of Cleobury-Mortimer r. station. Post town, Bridgnorth. Acres, 1,415. Rated property, £960. Pop., 123. Houses, 20. The manor belongs to Viscount Boyne. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Hereford.
