"Departed this transitory life, at Belfast, Laurens district on the 9th inst. In the 56th year of her age., Mrs. Mary Simpson, the amiable consort of Col. John Simpson. She was a native of Burford, Oxfordshire, England, and removed to this place in the beginning of the year 1787. This lady possessed and practiced every qualification that renders a companion truly agreeable--as a wife, she was endearing; as a parent, tender; as a mis__benevolent and feeling; as a friend: faithful, unaffected and accommodating; in fact, she was possessed of every praiseworthy quality and virtue, which could adorn the character of her sex. She endured the pains of ten days illness, with a fortitude and resgination to the will of God, evincing a mind of true piety, closing a well spent life. We could say little less on the present occasion, if we mention any thing of so truly worthy and amiable a character. Her corpse was conveyed from her residence to the tomb by uncommon large assemblage of persons of the first character in the neighborhood where she lived, who walked in solemn procession to the place of her interment, where they dropped the sympathizing tear with her disconsolate husband and amiable family, as the last tribute of respect due to their departed friend, whose memory will be ever dear to all who had the happiness of her acquaintance.""Mary Wells" is listed in FamilySearch Tree, PID#: L4JK-FRV.
