In May 2013, the Osmond Family Organization obtained a copy of the birth certificate of "Charles Edward Capel Martin" from Wales, which stated that he was born on 21 April 1913 at: The Hill, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, Wales, and that he was the son of Charles Herbert George Martin, "of Independent means", and "Beatrice Elise Martin formerly Hanbury".

Martin" is listed in the online "England & Wales Death Index, 1916-2006" (via Ancestry.com), which states that he was born on 21 April 1913 and that his death was registered in February 1998 when he was "84" years old in Kensington and Chelsea district, London, England.

The marriage certificate of "Charles Edward Capel Martin" and "Marjorie Violet Edlin" is listed online in FindMyPast.  The marriage certificate states that they were married by Banns on 4 June 1936 at St. Mark's, North Audley Street, London, England; that Charles Edward Capel Martin he was 23 years old (born about 1913), a Bachelor and Gentleman of Manor House, Butlers Marston, Warwickshire, and that his father was Charles Herbert George Martin (deceased), an "Officer in H[is] M[ajesty's] Forces"; and that Marjorie Violet Edlin was 24 years old (born about 1912) a Spinster of 13 North Audley Street, W.L., and that her father was Lloyd Edgar Edlin, a Gentleman.  The marriage was witnessed by J. Hanbury ? and Lloyd Edlin.   

In the 1939 England and Wales Register (via Ancestry.com), "Charles E. Martin" is listed as being born on 21 April 1913, married (although his wife is not listed with him), living on "Private Income" and residing at: Old Warden Park, Biggleswade Road, Bedfordshire, England.

In May 2013, the Osmond Family Organization obtained a copy of the death certificate of Charles Edward Capel Martin from England, which stated that he died of "Bronchopneumonia" on 19 February 1998 at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in Chelsea, London, England; that he was born on 21 April 13 in Abergavenny, Gwent, North Wales; and that the informant of his death was John Gilbert Frankau, a Brother-in-Law, of: 1 Heather Lodge, Leigh Corner, Cobham, Surrey.

Martin" appeared in the "Motor Sport" magazine of April 1998, pages 100-101, and reads as follows: "That cheerful extrovert racing driver Charles Martin, who drove with enthusiastic verve, an amateur amongst professionals, has died.  Charlie Martin ran illicit motorcycles while at Eton, his first car a Vitasse-GN, followed by a Brescia Bugatti, a Lancia Lambda and, while apprenticed to Austin's, a s/c Ulster A7.  He [had] some good placings in races and trials, with a Frazer Nash, a T37 Bugatti, an F-type MG Magna, and a new K3 MG Magnette.  After sharing MGs in LCC and BRDC events, real racing began with a T35B Bugatti and the K3, the latter fourth at Le Mans in 1934.  Charles then went to Molsheim with Charles Brackenbury and bought a T59 3.3 GP Bugatti.  Awaiting delivery, he ordered a T51, which he raced with some success.  When the 3.3 Bugatti was ready he drove this pure GP car back to England in pouring rain.  Not overly reliable, it was second in the loM and third in the 1935 Donington GP.  With a works Aston Martin he and Brackenbury, a lively pair, won the Biennial Cup at Le Mans.  He drove a works Aston Martin in the 1935 TT, and a 135 Delahaye in 1936.  Martin next bought a 2.9 P3 Alfa Romeo, placing second to Etancelin's 4.8 V8 Maserati in the 1936 Pau GP, second to Wimilee's T59 Bugatti at Deauville and second again in the 1936 Donington GP behind the works 3.8 Alfa Romeo.  Martin also won the 1936 Nuffield Trophy race in a borrowed ERA (R9B).  Winning form came again in the 1936 '500' with Dixon in the 2-litre Riley.  For 1937 Charles bought ERA R3A, winning at the Avus.  He then turned to boats, but road cars included a Railton, a Lancia Aprilia and T55 Bugatti, and he created the four-engined Martin-JAP.  Latterly a Brooklands Society Vice-President, he was absolutely in the spirit of pre-war racing.  The memory of Charlie Martin and 'The Brack' will not diminish; our deep sympathy goes to Joy, his wife."

Sword was 28 years old (born about 1910) and an "Army Officer", and Pamela R. Sword was 19 years old (born about 1919) and a "Housewife".  Their last permanent residence was "Tanganyika", East Africa, and their future permanent residence was to be "18 Stan Hope Gardens, Queens Gate, London", England.   

"Pamela Rachel Palles Sword" is listed in the online "Britain: Outbound Passenger List Leaving UK, 1890-1960" of FindMyPast, which states that in 1946 she was 28 years old (born about 1918) and of: 11 Kinnarton Street, Belgrave Square, London, England, and that on 5 July 1946 she departed from Southampton, England, aboard the ship "Alcantara", for the destination of Kilindini, Kenya.

The death of "Pamela Rachel P. Martin" is listed in the online "Death Record Transcirpt" of FindMyPast, which states that she died in Tangier, Morocco in 1977 age age 58 (born about 1919).

The obituary of "C. E. C. Martin" appeared in the "Motor Sport" magazine of April 1998, pages 100-101, and reads as follows: "That cheerful extrovert racing driver Charles Martin, who drove with enthusiastic verve, an amateur amongst professionals, has died.  Charlie Martin ran illicit motorcycles while at Eton, his first car a Vitasse-GN, followed by a Brescia Bugatti, a Lancia Lambda and, while apprenticed to Austin's, a s/c Ulster A7.  He [had] some good placings in races and trials, with a Frazer Nash, a T37 Bugatti, an F-type MG Magna, and a new K3 MG Magnette.  After sharing MGs in LCC and BRDC events, real racing began with a T35B Bugatti and the K3, the latter fourth at Le Mans in 1934.  Charles then went to Molsheim with Charles Brackenbury and bought a T59 3.3 GP Bugatti.  Awaiting delivery, he ordered a T51, which he raced with some success.  When the 3.3 Bugatti was ready he drove this pure GP car back to England in pouring rain.  Not overly reliable, it was second in the loM and third in the 1935 Donington GP.  With a works Aston Martin he and Brackenbury, a lively pair, won the Biennial Cup at Le Mans.  He drove a works Aston Martin in the 1935 TT, and a 135 Delahaye in 1936.  Martin next bought a 2.9 P3 Alfa Romeo, placing second to Etancelin's 4.8 V8 Maserati in the 1936 Pau GP, second to Wimilee's T59 Bugatti at Deauville and second again in the 1936 Donington GP behind the works 3.8 Alfa Romeo.  Martin also won the 1936 Nuffield Trophy race in a borrowed ERA (R9B).  Winning form came again in the 1936 '500' with Dixon in the 2-litre Riley.  For 1937 Charles bought ERA R3A, winning at the Avus.  He then turned to boats, but road cars included a Railton, a Lancia Aprilia and T55 Bugatti, and he created the four-engined Martin-JAP.  Latterly a Brooklands Society Vice-President, he was absolutely in the spirit of pre-war racing.  The memory of Charlie Martin and 'The Brack' will not diminish; our deep sympathy goes to Joy, his wife."

Charles Edward Capel Martin (born in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, 21 April 1913 - died in Chelsea, London, 19 February 1998) was an auto racing driver from Wales. He started racing at Southport sands on the Lancashire coast in 1932 moving on to circuit racing driving an MG, also racing in Bugatti's and Alfa Romeo's at Donnington and throughout Europe at Pau and Deauville in Grand Prix gaining wins at Brooklands in 1936.
