The christening of "James Hartley" is listed in FamilySearch, which states that he was christened on 5 June 1727 in Rochdale, Lancashire, England, and that his parents were James and Elizabeth Hartley.  Research Note: Some people have suggested that this "James Hartley"--who was christened on 5 June 1727 in Rochdale--was also the husband of Sarah Kay.  Further research into this possibility needs to be conducted.

Sarah Kay

[John] Kay."  Research Note: Some people have suggested that this "Sarah Kay"--who was christened on 6 January 1732 in Bury--was also the wife of James Hartley.  Further research into this possibility needs to be conducted.

(Parental Note: The 1856 marriage of "William Fairley" and "Jane Robson" is listed in the online FreeBMD, which states that that their marriage was registered in October-December 1856 in Sunderland district, Durham, England.)

The 1892 marriage certificate of "William Fairley" and "Barbara Tindale" was obtained from the GRO in England by the Nichols and Booth Family Organization in October 2023, and stated that they were married on 22 December 1892 at "the Jubilee Chapel, New North Road" in Durham Co., England, "according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Primitive Methodists by Certificate"; that William Fairley the Younger" was "25 years" old (born about 1867) and a "Bachelor" and "Coal Miner" of "Croxdale Colliery Sunderland Bridge" and that his father was "William Fairley" a "Coal Miner"; and that Barbara Tindale was "20 years" old (born about 1872) and a "Spinster" of "Tudhoe Colliery" in "Tudhoe" and that her father was "John Tindale (deceased)" a "Coal Miner".  The marriage was witnessed by G. Nichol and Mary L. Smart.  Research Notes: Barbara Tindale's father is not listed on her birth certificate, so on her marriage record she may have decided to list the given name of her father as being John--as her grandfather was John Nichol who was also a coal miner.  Also, one of the two witnesses to her marriage, named G. Nichol, may have been George Nichols--who was Barbara's uncle.

Barbara Nichols

The 1871 birth certificate of "Barbara Nichols" was obtained from the GRO in England by the Booth & Nichols Family Organization in May 2023, and states that she was born on 22 December 1871 at Tudhoe Colliery, Tudhoe, Durham district, Co. Durham, England, and that her mother was "Ann Nichols formerly Tindale". (No father is listed on the birth certificate.)  Research Note: Barbara's father was possibly James Nichols.  James Nichols possibly died before or after the 1871 Census was taken on 2 April 1871--as his wife Ann listed herself as still "married" to him (although he's not listed with her in the census), and before 22 December 1871--when Ann's daughter, Barbara, was born but no father was listed on Barbara's birth certificate.

In the 1881 Census, "Barbara Tyndale" is listed as being 9 years old (born about 1872), born in Tudhoe, Durham, England, a "Scholar", and residing with her widowed grandmother, Margt. (Margaret) Tindale (age 62), at: 65 Front Row, Tudhoe, Co. Durham, England.

Nichol and Mary L. Smart.  Research Notes: Barbara Tindale's father is not listed on her birth certificate, so on her marriage record she may have decided to list the given name of her father as being John--as her grandfather was John Nichol who was also a coal miner.  Also, one of the two witnesses to her marriage, named G. Nichol, may have been George Nichols--who was Barbara's uncle.
