The christening of John Hutton is listed in the IGI (via the LDS Extraction Program, FHL Book # 593805, RG4, 1098), which states that the parents of John Hutton were George Hutton and Ellenon Armstrong.

In the 1851 Census, John "Huton" is listed as being about 21 years old (born about 1830), born in Downs, Durham, working as a Coal Miner, and residing as an unmarried "Lodger" in the household of John and Jane Nichols in Cassop, Northumberland.

In July 2009, Ethel M. Brough obtained a copy of the marriage certificate from England for John Hutton and Mary Nichols, which stated that they were married by Banns on 7 April 1851 in the Parish Church of Kelloe, Durham, England, and that John Hutton was "of full age" and a Bachelor and "Pitman", residing at Cafsop (Cassop) Colliery, and that his father was George Hutton, a Pitman; and that Mary Nichols was "of full age" and a Spinster, residing at Cafsop (Cassop) Colliery, and that her father was John Nichols, a Pitman.  The marriage was witnessed by James Gott and John Allison.  Historical Note:  According to http://www.domaintools.com/enwikipedia/dmm.org.uk: "Cassop (formerly New Cassop) is a village in County Durham, in England. It has a population of about 500 and is located near the city of Durham. A former mining village, mining is no longer the main occupation of Cassop's inhabitants due to extensive mine closure over the last 30 years.Formerly this village was in the parish of Kelloe, but like many of the villages in that extensive parish, it broke away during the 19th Century in this case to form the parish of Cassop cum Quarrington, with the neighbouring village, Quarrington Hill."

In the 1871 Census, John Hutton is listed as being about 43 years old (born about 1828), born in Hetton Downs, Durham, married and working as Coal Miner, while residing with his wife, Mary, in Coxhoe, Durham.

In the 1881 Census, John Hutton is listed as being about 52 years old (born about 1829), born in Mosley, Durham, married and working as a Coal Miner, while residing with his wife, Mary, in Brandon & Byshottles, Durham.

In the 1891 Census, John Hutton is listed as being about 63 years old (born about 1828), born in Hetton Downs, Durham, married and working as a "Sub Botanist" while residing with his wife, Mary, at: 115 High Street, St. Johns, Durham.


Mary Nickles

The birth and christening of "Mary Nickles" is listed in FamilySearch (FHL Film # 593802), which states that she was born on 10 January 1832 and christened on 15 April 1832 at High Street-Wesleyan, Gateshead, Durham, England, and that her parents were "John Nickles" and "Jane".  Also, the christening of "Mary Nichles" is listed in FamilySearch (via England and Wales Non-Conformist Record Indexes), which states that she was christened on 15 April 1832 in Gateshead, Durham, England, and that her parents were "John Nichles" and "Jane".  

In the 1841 Census, Mary Nichols is listed as being about 8 years old (born about 1833) and not born in Northumberland.

In the 1851 Census, Mary Nichols is listed as being about 19 years old (born about 1832), born in Heworth, Durham, and working as a "Dress maker".

Brough obtained a copy of the marriage certificate from England for James Nicholes and Ann Tindale, which stated that they were married by Banns on 20 October 1861 at the Parish Church of Pittington, Durham, England, and that James Nicholes was 20 years old (born about 1841) and a Bachelor and Miner of Pittington, and that his father was John Nicholes, a Miner; and that Ann Tindale was 17 years old (born about 1844) and a Spinster of Pittington, and that her father was John Tindale, a Miner.  The marriage was witnessed by Gnesihhorus Parslou and Idne Hull.

James Nichols possibly died before or after the 1871 Census was taken on 2 April 1871--as his wife Ann listed herself as still "married" to him (although he's not listed with her in the census), and before 22 December 1871--when Ann's daughter, Barbara, was born but no father was listed on Barbara's birth certificate.


Ann Tindale

The birth of "Ann Tindale" is listed in the online GRO Index, which states that her birth was registered in April-June 1844 in Durham district (which includes the civil parishof Pittington), Co. Durham, England, and that her mother's surname was "Smith".

In the 1871 Census, "Ann Nichols" is listed as being 27 years old (born about 1844), born in Pittington, Durham, married (although her husband is not listed with her), and residing with her son, John Nichols (age 9), in the home of her parents, John Tindale (age 53) and Margaret (age 50), at: Tudhoe Colliery, Tudhoe, Durham, England.

Brough obtained a copy of the marriage certiicate of John Reed and Elizabeth Nichols, which stated that they were married on 24 June 1857 in the United Session Church, Presbyterian Church of Scotland, of Waterloo, Tynemouth, Northumberland, England, and that John Reed was about 20 years old (born about 1837) and a Bachelor and Coal Miner of Crofton Cowpen, and that his father was John Reed, a Butcher; and that Elizabeth Nichols was about 20 years old (born about 1837) of Crofton Cowpen, and that her father was John Nichols, a Coal Miner.  The marriage was witnessed by John Nichols and Mary Elizabeth Carmichael.


Elizabeth Nichols

In August 2008, Ethel M. Brough obtained a copy of the birth certificate of Elizabeth Nichols from England, which stated that she was born on 3 July 1840 "at East Holywell", Earsdon, and that she was the daughter of John Nichols, a Collier, and that her mother was "Jane Nichols formerly Dawson".

In the 1841 Census, Elizabeth Nichols is listed as being about 1 year old (born about 1840) and was born in Northumberland.

In the 1851 Census, Elizabeth Nichols is listed as being about 11 years old (born about 1840), born in Earsdon, Northumberland, and "at School".
