In the 1901 Census, George Nichols is listed as being about 78 years old (born about 1823), married and residing in Bedlington, Northumberland.  Note: No occupation or place of birth is listed in the census record for George Nichols.

In the 1851 Census, Isabella (Nichols) is listed as being about 22 years old (born about 1829), born in Alston, Cumberland, married and residing in Cassop, Durham.

In the 1861 Census, Isabella (Nichols)  Nichols is listed as being about 32 years old (born about 1829), born in Munthead, married and residing in Cowpen, Northumberland.

In the 1871 Census, Isabella (Nicholls) is listed as being about 43 years old (born about 1828), born in Allendale, Northumberland, married and residing in Bothal Demesne, Bedlington, Northumberland.

In the 1881 Census, Isabella (Nicholls) is listed as being about 52 years old (born about 1829), born in Auston Moor (or Alston Moor), Cumberland, married and residing in Bedlington, Northumberland.

In the 1891 Census, Isabella (Nichols) is listed as being about 65 years old (born about 1826), born in Nenthead, Northumberland, married and residing in Bedlington, Northumberland.

In the 1901 Census, Isabella (Nichols) is listed as being about 73 years old (born about 1828), married and residing in Bedlington, Northumberland.  Note: No occupation or place of birth is listed in the census record for Isabella (Nichols).


Marriage Notes for George Nichols and Isabella (Bell) Slack-127

In July 2009, Ethel M. Brough obtained a copy of the marriage certificate from England of George Nichols and Isabella Slack, which stated that they were married by Banns on 30 December 1844 in the parish church of Monk Hesilden (or Monk Hesleden or Monk Hesleton), Durham, England, and that George Nichols was "under age" and a Bachelor and Pitman "of this Parish", and that his father was John Nichols, a Pitman; and that Isabella Slack was also "under age" and a Spinster "of this Parish", and that her father was William Slack, a Pitman.  The marriage was witnessed by William Weatherell and Eleanor Tate.  (This marriage was vertified by Ethel M. Brough in September 2009, using FHL Film # 1885567, Item #6.)

In the 1841 Census, "James Stewart" is listed as being 16 years old (born about 1825), born in Northumberland, England, and residing with his probable parents, John Stewart (age 45 and working as a Collier) and Elizabeth (age 44), and five probable siiblings, at: Percy Main (street), Chirton (town), Tynemouth, Northumberland, England.

The 1847 marriage certificate of "James Stewart" and "Jane Nicholson" was obtained from the England by Ethel M. Brough in July 2009, and stated that they were married by Banns on 27 December 1847 at the Parish Church of Pittington, Durham, England; that James Stewart was "of full age" and a Bachelor and Pitman of New Pittington, and that his father was John Stewart, a Pitman; and that Jane "Nicholson" was "of full age" and a Spinster of New Pittington, and that her father was John "Nicholson", a Pitman. The marriage was witnessed by George Green and Edward Bell.

The 1827 christening of Jane Nichols is listed in FamilySearch (FHL Film # 1514523), which states that she was christened on 12 August 1827 in the Rainton Chapel Parish of Houghton-le-Spring in Durham County, England, as the daughter of "John and Jane Nichols" of "Pittington" and that John was a "Pitman".

In the 1841 Census, Jane Nichols is listed as being about 12 years old (born about 1829), born in Northumberland, England, and residing with her parents, John Nichols (age 44) and Jane (age 43), and seven siblings, at: St. Andrew, Northumberland, England.

The 1847 marriage certificate of "James Stewart" and "Jane Nicholson" was obtained from the England by Ethel M. In the 1871 Census, "Jane Stewart" is listed as being 18 years old (born about 1853), born in Seaton, Northumberland, England, unmarried and working as a "Domestic Servant", and residing in the home of John Hutton (age 43) and Mary (age 39) and their five children, at: Coxhoe Long Row, Coxhoe, Durham, England.

Joannis Johnson

Brough obtained a copy of the marriage certificate from England of John Johnson and Margaret Nichols, which stated that they were married by Banns on 28 April 1845 in the Parish Church of St. Hilda in South Shields, Durham, England, and that John Johnson was "of full age" and a Bachelor and Collier of South Shields, and that his father was George Johnson, a Collier; and that Margaret Nichols was "of full age" and a Spinster of South Shields, and that her father was John Nichols, a Collier.  The marriage was witnessed by W. Jameson and Jas. Ramsey.

In the 1861 Census, John Johnson is listed as being about 31 years old (born about 1830), born in Felling, Durham, married and working as a Potter while residing in Gateshead, Durham.

In the 1871 Census, John Johnson is listed as being about 42 years old (born about 1829), born in Felling, Durham, married and working as a Labourer while residing in Gateshead, Durham.

In the 1881 Census, John Johnson is listed as being about 52 years old (born about 1829), born in Hetton, Durham, married and working as a Coal Miner while residing in Boldon, Durham.

Research Note:  The IGI contains the christening of a John Johnson, who was the son of John Johnson and Jane, who was christened on 26 September 1830 at St. Andrew, Auckland, Durhamshire, England.


Margaret Nichols

"Margaret Nichols" is listed in the IGI (via LDS patron submission), which states that she was born on 12 January 1829 and christened on 29 September 1829.  Her birth and christening possibly took place in or near Gateshead, Durham, England.

In the 1841 Census, Margaret Nichols is listed as being about 10 years old (born about 1831) and not born in Northumberland.

In July 2009, Ethel M.
