James Tetlow married Mary Woolfenden in 1714 in Middleton, Lancashire, and named their first son James Tetlow--probably after his father James. James and Mary named their second son "Edward Tettlow"--possibly after James' father (as Mary's father was Johnathan Woolfenden)--who was born about 1691. However, the christening of a James Tetlow could not be located in the parish registers of St. Leonard's church in Middleton during the period of March 1689 through 1693 because there is a "gap" in the records. In fact, in June 2009, Kathryn Stout, a professional genealogist in Lancashire, viewed the original parish records and stated that "because of the gap in the register [between March 1689 through 1693], his [James Tetlow] parents [possibly] either used another church or he [James Tetlow] had a late baptism." Also, in May 2009, Clayton Brough could not locate the christening of James Tettlow in the Bishop's Transcript of Middleton (FHL Film # 1545656, Item #6) because it was missing all records for the period between March 1684 and October 1721.

Research Note: The Ancestral File originally contained an entry that listed James Tettlow as having been married to a second wife, Mary Cheetham, on 4 September 1722. However, the James Tettlow that married Mary Cheetham was of "Prestwich parish" and not of Thornham or Stakehill.
