The christening of "Georg Clarke" is listed in FamilySearch (FHL Film # 1040658, Item #4), which states that he was christened on 28 July 1611 in Sandridge, Hertfordshire, England, and that his father was "George Clarke".
2016 Research Note on the Ancestry of George Clarke:
In August 2016, family researchers of the Samuel Clark Family Organization (SCFO) determined that the "Georg Clarke" who was christened on 28 July 1611 in Sandridge, Hertfordshire, England, was "possibly" the same individual who was known as "Deacon George Clark" in Connecticut--and who came to America from England in the 1630's with a wife named "Sarah". There were several reasons for this conclusion, including the following: 1) There were several related Clarke individuals who apparently left Hertfordshire, England, and settled in Connecticut during the first half of the 1600's, including: Thomas Clarke--who was christened on 27 March 1609 in Graveley, Hertfordshire; George Clarke--who was christened on 22 March 1611 in Kimpton, Hertfordshire; and John Clarke--who was christened on 20 February 1619 in Kimpton, Hertfordshire--so the George Clark who was christened in 1611 in Sandridge could have also left Hertfordshire for America at about the same time his possible cousins did. 2) An extensive durational and locational radius search of all known George Clarke's who were christened in Hertfordshire between 1580 and 1620 strongly suggested that the "Georg Clarke" who was christened in 1611 in Sandridge was the most likely one available (and unaccounted for) who could have left Hertfordshire as an adult for another location--so this George Clark could have left Hertfordshire for America in the 1630's. 3) The "Georg Clarke" of Sandridge is not listed in the parish registers of Sandridge or nearby areas as having died young, being married or having children, or residing as an adult in or near Sandridge--so this George Clark could have left the Sandridge area when he became an adult. Historical records state that "George Clark" was also known as "Deacon George Clark", "George Clark, Senior", and "George Clark, Carpenter". For example, see the book "Deacon George Clark(e) of Milford, Connecticut, and some of his descendants", by George Clarke Bryant and Donald Lines Jacobus, 1949, pages 3. This book is available online at: https://dcms.lds.org/delivery/DeliveryManagerServlet?dps_pid=IE937769.2016 Research Into the Marriage of George Clarke:
In August 2016 family researchers determined that the "Georg Clarke" who was christened on 28 July 1611 in Sandridge, Hertfordshire, England, was "possibly" the same individual who was known as "Deacon George Clark" in Connecticut--and who came to America from England in the 1630's with a wife named "Sarah".
In the past some individuals have suggested that the George Clarke" who left England and settled in Connecticut in the 1630's may be the same "George Clark" who married "Sarah Boutell" (or "Boulton") in 1636 in Colchester, England. This marriage is listed in the parish register of St. Botolph, Colchester, Essex, England (FHL Film # 1565417, Item #13), which states the following: "George Clarke and Sarah Boulton [or Sarah Boulton] both single and both of this parish 25 April [1636]". (Note: This marriage record was carefully reviewed and verified by family researchers in August 2016 at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. The written expression "of this parish" was often used to substantiate the legal requirement that the couple had resided in the parish at least three weeks prior to their marriage and not that they were necessarily born in or full-time residents of the parish.)
However, the "George Clark" who married "Sarah Boutell" (or "Boulton") in 1636 in St. Botolph, Colchester, Essex, is probably not the same George Clarke who left England for Connecticut in the 1630's, because he apparently had a daughter, "Sara Clark", who was christened on 2 April 1643 in St. Botolph, Colchester, as follows: "Sara daughter of George Clark & Sara Bapt: 2 April 1643" (FHL Film # 1565417, Item #13; Note: It is possible that there were other children of George and Sara Clark who were christened in St. Botolph between 1636 and 1645, but this parish record shows considerable damage and is missing considerable information for these years). Also, this George Clark may have had another child, "Robert", christened on 7 December 1656 in St. Botolph, Colchester, as follows: "Robt son of George Clarke bapt at St. Botolph" (FHL Film # 1565421, Item #20; Note: This parish record for St. Leonard, Colchester, is missing years and information). Historical Note: "During the English Civil War (1643–1647) and in the following Commonwealth period, [church] records were poorly kept [between 1642-1651] and many are now missing after being destroyed (bored by beetles, chewed by rats or rendered illegible by damp) or hidden by the clergy." (Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parish_register.)
In addition, some individuals have suggested that the "George Clarke" who left England and settled in Connecticut in the 1630's may be the same "George Clarke" who married a "Sarah Harvey" sometime in the 1630's in either England or America. However, no marriage record has yet been located in England or America for a "George Clarke" and a "Sarah Harvey".
Conclusion: Because no definitive evidence has yet been found that substantiates the surname of "Sarah"--the wife of "George Clarke" who left England for America in the 1630's--family researchers have decided to only list her given name as mentioned in the book "Deacon George Clark(e) of Milford, Connecticut, and some of his descendants", by George Clarke Bryant and Donald Lines Jacobus, 1949, page 35, as follows: "1. 'Deacon' George Clark, 'Senior' or 'Carpenter,' died at Milford, Conn., June 10, 1690; married Sarah, who died at Milford, Sept. 22, 1689.Historical records state that "George Clark" was also known as "Deacon George Clark", "George Clark, Senior", and "George Clark, Carpenter". For example, see the book "Deacon George Clark(e) of Milford, Connecticut, and some of his descendants", by George Clarke Bryant and Donald Lines Jacobus, 1949, pages 3. "George Clark", a "Deacon" is listed in the book "Deacon George Clark(e) of Milford, Connecticut, and some of his descendants", by George Clarke Bryant and Donald Lines Jacobus, 1949, pages 3-4 and 35. This book is available online at: https://dcms.lds.org/delivery/DeliveryManagerServlet?dps_pid=IE937769. In this book George Clark is described as follows: "The will of 'Deacon' George Clark--he so described himself--is dated Apr. 15, 1678. A codicil was made Aug. 18, 1688. It is recorded on the records of the Superior Court, Vol. 4, at Hartford [Connecticut]. This will was not admitted to probate as is shown by a hearing held before the County Court at New Haven on Aug. 7, 1690. ...From this will and the Milford Records, it appears that 'Deacon' George [Clark] had but four children: Thomas, b. 1638; d. Oct. 23, 1719 ae. 81 (T.S. Milford) mar. 1st Hannah Gibbard of New Haven, 2nd Grace Judson, widow of Samuel Prudden; Sarah, bapt. Apr. 7, 1644, died Feb. 15, 1705/6; mar. Jonathan Law; Samuel, bapt. October, 1645, died 1719, mar. 1st Mary Flark, daughter of 'Farmer' George Clark, 2nd Sarah ---; and 'Ensign' George, bapt. Apr. 30, 1648, died July 19, 1734 in his 87th yr. (T.S., Milford), mar. 1st Deborah Gold, 2nd Rebecca Phippen, 3rd Phebe (Nichols) Knell. ...In connection with the will of George 'Senior' it should be noted, in the probate proceedings before the County Court, the marginal index reads 'George Clark farmer.' 'Farmer' George had become 'Senior' by the death of 'Deacon' George, who died June 18, 1690.
Relationship Note: The question of "Were 'Deacon' George [Clark] and 'Farmer' George [Clark] Related? was discussed in the book "Deacon George Clark(e) of Milford, Connecticut, and some of his descendants", by George Clarke Bryant and Donald Lines Jacobus, 1949, page 6. This book is available online at: https://dcms.lds.org/delivery/DeliveryManagerServlet?dps_pid=IE937769. This book presents the following information about this possibility:
"There are curious juxtapositions of Clark names on some of the early records. Perhaps they are merely coincidences and do not point to any relationships:
"Will of Timothy Baldwin of Milford - dated Jan. 31, 1664. (Vol. 1, Manwaring, p.177) 'Deacon Clarke' and 'George Clark Jr.' two of the overseers. Witnesses - George Clarke, Sen, and George Clarke Jr.
"Will of Joseph Northrup of Milford - dated Sept. 1669. (Vol. 1, New Haven Probate Records, p.15) 'George Clarke Senior & George Clark junior' two of the overseers.
"Will of George Clarke ('Sr' and 'farmer') dated Apr. 25, 1690 (Vol.2, New Haven Probate Records, pp.73-74) The witnesses were Thomas Clark and George Clark. (Thomas and George were sons of 'Deacon' George. Their brother Samuel was already married to a daughter of 'Farmer' George)."
"Sarah" is listed in the book "Deacon George Clark(e) of Milford, Connecticut, and some of his descendants", by George Clarke Bryant and Donald Lines Jacobus, 1949, pages 3-4 and 35. This book states (page 35) the following: "1. 'Deacon' George Clark, 'Senior' or 'Carpenter,' died at Milford, Conn., June 10, 1690; married Sarah, who died at Milford, Sept. 22, 1689. Unfortunately, some individuals have suggested that the "George Clarke" who left England and settled in Connecticut in the 1630's may be the same "George Clarke" who supposedly married a "Sarah Harvey" sometime in the 1630's in either England or America. "There are three brasses near the Rood Loft stairway; the upper is part of a scroll which may be related to the priest's brass in the Chancel. Both this brass, and that of his grandson below, were on the Nave floor until 1889." Each of the grants was to be handled by the vicar, churchwardens, and two or three of 'the honest men' of the relevant parishes."
