Driggs Matron Dies At Hospital
REXBURG, ID., March 31, 1946 - Mrs. Alice Carson Buxton, 77, of Driggs, died in a local hospital Saturday evening after a two weeks' illness.
She was born June 10, 1868 at Richmond, Utah, the daughter of David and Millie Jane Rawlins Carson. On March 26, 1888, she married John Alfred Buxton at Richmond. Their marriage was later solemnized at the Logan LDS temple.
Following their marriage they lived at Richmond and later moved to Eureka, Utah. In 1901, they moved to Idaho, settling in the Teton basin country. In 1904 Mr. Buxton was accidentally killed while working in the timber, leaving his widow and seven small children. Following his death Mrs. Buxton returned to Richmond to live with her family until 1918 when she moved to Driggs.
She graduated from the LDS nursing school at Richmond, and spent the rest of her active life as a nurse. During her experiences she acted as a midwife for 612 births. She also gave much aid during the influenza epidemic during 1918 and 1919.
She was a member of the LDS Church and was active in the Relief Society. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
She is survived by seven sons and daughters: Mrs. J. W. Webb, Richmond, Utah; Mrs. Ethel Bair, Shelley; Lester Buxton, Lewiston, Utah; Clint Buxton, Moore and Darrell Buxton, Mrs. Eva Hillman and Mrs. Orval Buxton, all of Driggs. Forty three grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Driggs LDS Chapel with Bishop Clarence Murdock officiating. The Hansen Funeral Home of St. Anthony will direct the services.
Friends may call at Mrs. Buxton's home in Driggs from 5 p.m. Tuesday until time of services. Additional services will be held at the Richmond South ward chapel Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. Friends may call at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Webb, from Wednesday evening until time of services.
Burial will be in the Richmond, Utah Cemetery.
