Merlin N. Boswell

BIOGRAPHY: Merlin N Boswell, age 67, passed away August 9, 1994 at his home in Bountiful, Utah.
   He was born May 28, 1927 in Nephi, Utah, to Laurance and Iona Nielson Boswell. He married Irene Boyington, June 12, 1948 in Nephi, Utah.He graduated from Juab High School and was a Army veteran of foreign wars. He graduated from Utah State University in Agronomy and worked as a State Agronomist, Asst. State Conservationist, and State Resource Conservationist for the US Government. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, bird watcher, and ecologist.
   Survived by his wife, of Bountiful; one son and three daughters, Russell Merlin Boswell; Mrs. Randy (Margaret) Olsen; Mrs. Dirk M. (Eileen) Eastmond; Mrs. Brent M. (Elaine) Swanson; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; one brother, Lavoy and his wife, Anna Boswell.
   Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 1994 at the Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary, 727 North 400 East. Friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial in the Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi, Utah at 3 p.m. Funeral directors Anderson Funeral Home, Nephi.


Irene Boyington

BIOGRAPHY:  Our beloved mother, grandmother and sister, Irene Boyington Boswell, age 77, died Tuesday, November 25, 2003 in Sandy, Utah.
  She was born August 16, 1926 in Manti, Utah, a daughter of Clinton Thomas and Hazel Emerette Tuttle Boyington. She graduated from Manti High School, Class of 1944 and from Utah State University in Logan with high honors in Library Science in 1963. She married Merlin N. Boswell, June 12, 1948 in Nephi, Utah. He died August 9, 1994.
  Irene is survived by her children: Margaret and Randy Olsen, Eileen and Dirk Eastmond, Elaine Swanson, Russell and Teresa Boswell; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grand-children; sister and brothers: Marilyn Boyington, Delbert Boyington and Thomas Boyington. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three sisters.
  Funeral services will be held Monday, December 1, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in the Jenkins Soffe South Valley Mortuary, 1007 W. So. Jordan Pkwy (10600 South), where friends may call for viewing Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services. Graveside services and burial will be Monday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in the Vine Bluff Cemetery in Nephi, Utah under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.

Rex Howell Carter

Rex Howell Carter, 85, passed away on April 11, 2009 at CareSource Hospice in Holladay, Utah from natural causes.

He was born in 1923 in Nephi, Utah to Wallace Leon and Ora Vernell Howell Carter.

He married Erma Mae Boyington on September 19, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. Erma died in an auto accident in 1973, which left daughter Arlene a paraplegic. Rex was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, and son.

He was well known for helping family, friends, and neighbors at every opportunity. He served in the Navy during World War II and worked for Nephi City for 40 years. After retirement Rex moved to Midvale, to care for his mother, daughter, and grandsons. He lived in Spanish Fork for the past 12 years.

He is survived by his children, David (Jenny) Carter of IL; and Arlene Dredge (Conrad) Grams of Midvale UT; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and two brothers, Lee W. (Gloria) Carter, CA; and Boyd E. (Janet) Carter, UT.

Funeral Services will be held at Anderson Funeral Home, 94 West 300 North, Nephi, Utah, on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Friends may call at the mortuary one hour prior to the services.

Interment will be in the Nephi Vine Bluff Cemetery.


Arlene Carter

1958 ~ 2013
Arlene Carter Dredge Grams, age 55, passed away June 16, 2013 at her home in Midvale, Utah from cancer.
She was born January 23, 1958 in Payson, Utah, to Rex Howell and Erma Mae Boyington Carter. She graduated from Juab High School in Nephi, Utah where she was the student body president and the regional Sterling Scholar in general scholarship. She also attended Brigham Young University and the University of Utah.
In 1973, Arlene became a paraplegic in the auto accident that killed her mother. She served as Miss Wheelchair Utah, and was an inspirational speaker throughout the Western United States, especially to youth groups.
Arlene married Wilford Jesse Dredge in 1977. They had twin sons, then divorced in 1986. Arlene has been happily married to Conrad David Grams since 1996. Arlene and Conrad were very devoted to each other and were very proud of their blended family.
Arlene worked at the YWCA of Salt Lake City for many years as a divorce and healthy relationship teacher, assisting men and women from the Wasatch Front.
She was a faithful member of the LDS Church serving in many callings.
She enjoyed public speaking, baking, sewing, and spending time with her family. She was also a powerful and influential advocate for others who face significant challenges. She was a teacher to her family, her friends, and her community; and not even the most trying physical restrictions could prevent her from imparting to others her humble wisdom, her deep insights, and her resoundingly optimistic and eternal perspective on life.
She is survived by her husband, Conrad David Grams of Midvale, Utah, twin sons, Carter Leon (Rachel) Dredge of North Salt Lake, Utah, and Spencer Nathan (Melissa) Dredge of Centerville, Utah, stepdaughter Danielle Renee Grams of Tampa, Florida, and brother, David Leon (Jenny) Carter of Chicago, Illinois. Surviving grandchildren James, Katie, Luke and Noah Dredge.
Funeral Services will be held at the LDS Union Fort 2nd Ward Building located at 7155 South 540 East in Midvale, Utah on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 11am. A viewing will be held Friday evening 6/21/2013 from 6-8 pm at Goff Mortuary, located at 8090 South State Street, in Midvale, Utah and at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Midvale City Cemetery, located at 471 West 6th Avenue in Midvale, Utah.

Manti Couple To Be Feted On Saturday

The children of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton T. Boyington are planning an open hous in honor of the 75th birthday year of their parents. The even is planned this Saturday, June 7, 1969 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Merlin N. Boswell, 467 North 1200 East in Bountiful. They request no gifts.

The event will be held between the hours of two until eight p.m.

The Boyingtons are parents of seven children, Mrs. Rex (Erma) Carter, Nephi; Mrs. Merlin (Irene) Boswell, Bountiful; Mrs. Wallace (Phyllis) Stetich, Salt Lake City; Marylin B. Bryan, Ephraim; Delbert L. Boyington, Ogden; Mrs. Richard (Ethel) Oakden, Sacramento, California, and Thomas L. Boyington, a member of the U.S. Air Force stationed in Japan.

BIOGRAPHY:  Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed from this earthly life after a sudden illness while encircled in the hands and hearts of her loving family on August 8, 1998.
   She was born on February 15, 1928, the third of seven children to Clinton Thomas and Hazel Emmerette Tuttle Boyington in Manti, Utah. She married Wallace Stetich on August 27, 1950. They raised five wonderful children. Wallace died in 1981. She married John A. (Jack) Patrick on May 30, 1986, with whom she spent the last 12 joyous years.Phyllis lived her life to the fullest, enjoying her family and friends, an example of caring thoughtfulness and compassion to us all. She was not only our mother, but also a mother to her children's friends and many nieces, nephews and her stepchildren.
   She is survived by her husband, John A. (Jack) Patrick; children, Thomas A. (Julie) Stetich, Valinda (Wally) Rose, Joe W. (Sydney) Stetich, Marco (Susan) Stetich, Jalaine (James) Stetich; eight grandchildren; stepchildren, Pam (Barry) Knutson, Greg (Judy) Patrick, Christi (Fred) Gerlach, Shelley Sanchez; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; siblings, her best friend and sister Marilyn B. Marco John Stetich, 50, beloved husband to Susan, and father of Josee (14), Marco Jr. "Zaine" (11), and Maximus (8), has left the kitchen . . . the people in heaven are eating well now.

Marco died on February 20, 2011 of a heart attack - his heart was just too big.

Marco was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on June 27, 1960, to Wally and Phyllis (Boyington) Stetich.

Marco, along with his four siblings, Tom, Valinda (Rose), Joe and Jalaine (Carrow) attended West High School. Marco was a First Vice President & Financial Advisor at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney where he embraced his clients as family. A graduate of the University of Utah with a B.S. in business, Marco remained a devout member of Kappa Sigma throughout his life. An avid waterfowl hunter, Marco loved sitting in the marsh with his hunting buddies. Deadhead, sportsman, culinary expert, consummate host, and friend to all, Marco was larger than life. Relentless at helping people and making them feel loved and special, Marco put a spring in everyone's step. Although Marco was a man who would gladly give anyone the shirt off his back, his children were his greatest joy and central focus. He reveled in their latest activities. He was a passionate father who began every conversation with an interesting up to date account of his children's lives.

A celebration of Marco's life will be held on Saturday, February 26th at the L'Orangerie at Red Butte Gardens, 300 Wakara Way, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Carpooling recommended.   John Alexander (Pate) Patrick, 85, passed away Friday September 26, 2003 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
  John was born May 26, 1918 in Salt Lake City to Joseph Edward Patrick and Alison Moffat Stevenson. He was one of seven children.
  Pate attended local schools graduating from West High School, he later received a Bachelor and a Masters degree from the University of Utah.
  John married his high school sweetheart Lois Marie Sessions May 2, 1941. He served in the Navy in World War II. He retired as an electrical engineer from Utah Power and Light.
  He married Phyllis Stetich May 30, 1987. John lived an active and full life. He had many friends and belonged to many organizations. He loved many sports and was an avid golfer. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and volunteered with many community organizations.
  He is survived by one son Greg (Judy) Patrick; three daughters, Pam Knutson, Christi (Fred) Gerlach, Shelley Sanchez; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren.
  Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 2, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary 3251 South 2300 East. Friends may call on Wednesday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, and on Thursday from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services.

Richard Oakden

Services are March 10 for Richard Clarence Oakden, who died March 5 at a Watsonville convalescent hospital after a year-long illness. He was 78.

A native of Gridley, Mr. Oakden lived in the Watsonville area since 1980.

Mr. Oakden served in the Marine Corps during the Korean era. He worked as a bank trust officer for many years and was last employed by the County Bank of Santa Cruz. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Watsonville ward. In his retirement, he enjoyed reading and gardening.

SURVIVORS: Daughter Nannette Castillo of Walla Walla, Wash.; sons Michael Oakden of Watsonville and Jonathon Oakden; brother Donald Oakden of Orangevale; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild expected soon.

VISITATION: 9-10 a.m. March 10 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 255 Holm Road, Watsonville.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. March 10 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
