Sheril Melvo Barnson, 88, was born on April 1, 1915 in Kingston, Utah to Etta Mae Jessen and Bernard Roland Barnson. Married Edna Sprague on June 18, 1936 in the Salt Lake Temple. She preceded him in death on May 21, 1973. Married Afton Jacobs, later divorced.
The dawn of a new day marked the end of a great life. Dad returned home to the arms of his beautiful wife and infant daughter Edna on May 19, 2003. He was a wonderful, kind and loving man with a mischievous grin and fun-loving sense of humor. He had a love for the natural beauty of the Great Outdoors and that fishing hole around any bend. This love lives on through his children, 23 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
There are few roads in the State of Utah that his hands did not touch during his years as a heavy equipment operator. Later he was instrumental in the establishment of "Open-Pit Mining" in Ely and Battle Mountain, Nevada, for Kennecott and Duvall Copper Companies.
He was always willing to share his talent and abilities while demonstrating his love for family and his Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a member of the LDS Church serving in many callings throughout his life including High Priest Group Leader and Councilor in a Bishopric.
He is survived by his children Roger (Deann), Sandy; Bruce (Treva), Kanab; Sherilin (Dee) Rowley, Centerville; and Becky (Kevin) Olson, Parker, Colorado.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Tasha, Val, Marilyn, Ellen, and Terry of Meadow Brook ALC and St. Joseph Villa for their tender loving care.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 23, 2003, 2 p.m., at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary Chapel in Sandy, 1950 East 10600 South, where friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to services. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens.
