Annie Bartholomew Passes At Vernal

Funeral services will be held in the Manti South Ward on Friday for Mrs. Annie Marie Malmquist Manwill Bartholomew, 72. She passed away at Vernal, July 12, 1954.

She was born in Vermillion, Utah, a daughter of Annie Louise Anderson and John G. Malmquist.

She lived in Sigurd for many years and had made her home in Manti for more than thirty years. She had lived in Vernal for the past two years.

She was married to George Tracy Manwill, December 9, 1904 and he died January 10, 1912. She was married to John E. Bartholomew, November, 1917, and he died October 25, 1947.
Mrs. Bartholomew came to Manti in 1917. She has been known as a good neighbor, attending the sick and needy. She has been active in the church serving for many years as a Relief Society teacher, and doing a considerable amount of Temple work.

She is survived by the following sons and daughters: Don Bartholomew and Mrs. Orrin (Erma) Sorensen, Manti; Mrs. Dan (Arminta) Coonradt, Vernal; Mrs. Arthur (Thelma) Andrew, Compton, California, and Mrs. Walter (Iola) Colby, Sigurd; two sisters, Mrs. Olivia Sandberg and Mrs. Lavina Groone, California, and a brother, Henry Malmquist, Washington; by 20 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are 5 step-children, Mrs. Orson (Eva) Taylor and Mrs. Mary Etherington, Santaquin; Landon Bartholomew, Florida; Jack Bartholomew, Manti; and Mrs. Bert (LaVaughn) Schnidier, Salt Lake City; by 7 step-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Bartholomew home at 196 West 6th South Thursday evening and Friday prior to 2 p.m. Bishop Frank Garbe will conduct the services and burial will be in the Sigurd Cemetery.

Funeral Held For Mrs. Bartholomew

Funeral services for Mrs. Annie Marie M. Bartholomew were conducted on Friday in the Manti South Ward Chapel by Bishop Frank Garbe. Mrs. Bartholomew died on Monday of last week at Vernal.

Mrs. Eunice Garbe played prelude and postlude music on the organ. The South Ward Singing Mothers, directed by Mrs. Viola Tatton, sang "Sometime We'll Understand", and "I Need Thee Every Hour", accompanied by Mrs. Garbe. Other music included a vocal duet, "Mother Machree" by Thera Lou Hickman and Dorothy Larson with Mrs. Hickman at the piano, and a vocal solo, "Wonderful Mother of Mine" by Amy Bond, Mrs. Garbe accompanying.

The prayer in the home was offered by Henry Bartholomew and prayers at the funeral were by Grant Bond and Alma C. Peterson.

Speakers were L. Glen Anderson and Mrs. Blanche Garbe with closing remarks by Bishop Frank Garbe.

Burial was in the Sigurd Cemetery, with Bishop Thad Nebekar of Sigurd offering the graveside prayer.


DEATH:  Annie was living with her daughter Lavon or "Bonnie" in Vernal at the time.  Annie wanted to have a bath and Bonnie said that she would help her when she returned from getting some bread a short distance away.  Annie could not wait and seeing as the water was already drawn for her, decided to help herself by getting in. Had an insulin reaction while in the tub and the water was hot enough to leave her with after this incident.
