Maria Katherine Mickelson was born August 14, 1832 in Slesvigh Holstin, Germany. At the age of 24 she emigrated to Denmark, and in 1859 married Louis Jensen. In 1864, she and her husband became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and emigrated in 1866. She lost her husband crossing the plains and arrived at Manti in October, 1860, with four children: Frederick, Julins, Carl E. and Mrs. Annie Kjar.

In November, 1866, she married Peter Mickelson. The following children were born to them: Mrs. N. O. Anderson of Ephraim, Laura, who died October 10, 1888, Louis P. and Andrew Mickelson. Her decedents number fifty grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren.

Had she lived till the twentieth of this month, she, with Peter Mickelson, would have celebrated their golden wedding.

She passed peacefully away on November 6, 1916, at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 22 days, having been confined to her bed but one week.

The funeral services were held at the Tabernacle Thursday afternoon and interment made in Manti Cemetery.
