Robert E. Truitt

Robert E. TRUITT, owner of Truitt Shoes, 726 Main St., which he started on Aug. 25, 1961, died of cancer at 6:50 a.m. today in Woodlawn Hospital following an illness of 18 months. He was 62 years old.

Mr. Truitt opened his store in quarters formerly occupied by the Miller-Jones Shoe Store Co., for which he had been employed for 15 years - eight as manager of the Peru outlet and seven as a district supervisor.

A past director of the Rochester Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Truitt for 17 years was co-chairman with Ernest BAXTER of the Off-Street Parking Committee of the Chamber which was primarily rsponsible for the off-street parking areas of the downtown area.

Born Oct. 10, 1919 in Peru, he was the son of Charles and Bessie KARNS TRUITT. He was married Oct. 14, 1944 in San Diego, Calif., to Dorothy NIELSON, who survives.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Win-a-Couple Class of the church and the Rochester Chamber of Commerce, and was a past president of the Peru Lions Club. He attended Ball State University and served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II before coming to Rochester.

Surviving with the wife are two daughters, Mrs. John (Sharon) KARN, Rochester, and Mrs. Bobbie VAURHYTE, Knoxville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Scott and Gretchen Lynn KARN; and a brother, William [TRUITT], of Peru. Two brothers and two sisters preceded in death.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Zimmerman Brothers Funeral Home, Rochester, with the Rev. Dale BARDSLEY officiating. Burial will be in the Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion and VFW.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, and on Saturday until time of services. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church. The store will be closed all day Saturday.

Dorothy Truitt Scott, 75, 2352 West 300 North, Rochester, died at 11:55 a.m. Wednesday at Life Care Center, Rochester following an illness.

She was born in Manti, Utah to Soren and Clara Braithwaite Nielson. She lived in Rochester for 32 years, having come from Peru. In 1944 in San Diego she married Robert Truitt who died in May, 1982 On Sept. 27, 1986 in Rochester she married Basil A. Scott, who survives at home.

She was co-owner of the former Truitt Shoe Store here in Rochester for 20 years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Rochester, and had been very active in the church choir for 40 years.

Surviving with her husband are two daughters, Mrs. Ben (Bobbie NEILSON) BOLT, Knoxville, Tenn.; Rev. John (Rev. Sharon) Karn, Garrett, Ind.; one granddauger, Miss Gretchen Karn, Garrett, Ind.; two brothers, Rex Neilson, St. George, Utah; Robert Neilson, Vernal, Utah; two step-sons, Wendell Scott, Rochester, Veril Scott, Arlington, Va.; and three step-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by two sisters.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 801 Jefferson St., Rochester, with the Revs. Carl Ricks and John Karn officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Rochester. Friends may call at the Foster & Good Funeral home, Rochester, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday and at the church for an hour before services.

Memorials may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, Rochester.

Basil A. Scott, 89, of 304 N. Mishawaka St., Akron, formerly of Rochester, died at 8:35 p.m. Wednesday at the Woodlawn Hospital emergency room, Rochester.

Born in Twelve Mile to Vernon and Annie Sherrard Scott, he married Martha O. Lewis on March 6, 1938. She passed away Dec. 22, 1984. On Sept. 27, 1986, he married Dorothy Truitt. She passed away on Dec. 28, 1994.
Then on Aug. 25, 1995, he married Betty Shireman, who survives at home.

Mr. Scott had been a farmer and was a member of Tiosa First Brethren Church. He also attended Akron Church of God and was a graduate of Richland Center High School.

Surviving with his wife, Betty Scott, are two sons, Wendell and wife Carol Scott, Rochester, and Veril and wife Janet Scott, Arlington, Va.; one stepdaughter, Judy and husband Kent French, Silver Lake; three stepsons, John and wife Karen Bucher, Columbia City, Jerry and wife Jan Bucher, Mount Pleasant, Ky., and Bill and wife Jacki Bucher, North Manchester; three grandsons, Roger and wife Joan Scott, Rochester, Gary and wife Karen Scott, Macy, and Glen Scott, Shipshewana; four great-grandchildren, Anna, Aaron, Adam and Abigail; 13 stepgrandchildren; 18 stepgreat-grandchildren; one brother, Paul and wife Marietta Scott, Rochester; two sisters, Rosemary and husband John DePue, Argos, and Marjorie Umbaugh, Winona Lake.

His funeral service is 2 p.m. Sunday at Akron Church of God, 301 West St., Akron, with Pastor Terry L. Canfield and Pastor Steve Fleck officiating. Burial is at Reichter Cemetery, Rochester. Visitation is from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron.

Memorials may be made to Tiosa First Brethren Church, Akron Church of God or American Parkinson Disease Association.

Ken Cage, 72, a long-time resident of the Vancouver, WA area, died from an accident in Woodland, WA.

He enjoyed working on the ranch and truck driving.

Ken is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Jay Cage, Jeff Cage, Anna Van Buskirk, Rhonda Bigelow and Ceceilla Cage; step-daughter, Shelly Griffith; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and his brother, Ronald.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Mable Cage; sister, Glenda; and daughter, Cassie.

A memorial will be held Thurs., May 24, 1:00 p.m. at Mt. View Christian Center, 2810 NE 259th St., Ridgefield, WA.

Benjamin Riches052Bennie B. Riches returned to his Heavenly Father on February 28, 2015 from complications of surgery. He was born on May 31, 1926 to his parents Benjamin O and Serelda Riches. He graduated from Spanish Fork High School. He worked at Geneva Steel and retired after 40 years. He worked as a Security Guard at Alpine School District for 5 years. He also worked for Walmart for 17 years. He loved the outdoors; playing bingo, and watching Jazz games. He is a active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
He is survived by his loving wife Carol Riches, children Angie (Gary), Mark (Kristy), Robert, Kris (Paul D.) Harding, Gary (Katherine) Riches, Dennis (Trisha) Riches, Linda (Peter) Greiner, Aren Schank, Shelly (Kent) Petersen Lisa Halterman, Troy (Janice) Riches, sister-in-law Irene Riches, 14 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers David and Roland and 3 Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Sundberg-Olpin Funeral Home 495 South State Street Orem, Utah. A visitation will take place at the funeral home prior to services from 11a.m.-12:30 p.m.
