Charles Ray "Charley" Greenhagen

Charles (Charley) Ray Greenhagen 1922 ~ 2008

Charley, age 85, returned 'home' to heaven on January 11, 2008. He was a resident at the Utah Veteran's Nursing Home for the past month, where he received excellent care and met new friends.

Born May 4, 1922 in Salt Lake City to Berthold Otto Greenhagen and Mary Rosella Elmina Reed. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters: the Greenhagens: Lucille Louise Sandi, Mildred (Mae) Stopper, Omar and Bert; the Wilsons: Jack, Noreen (Nonie), Judie, and Dorothy (Dot); the Bennets: Evan and Mami.

He was a fruit peddler as a kid to help put food on the table. After the Pearl Harbor bombing, he stood in an enormous line to enlist. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II on the USS Regulus and USS Birmingham, serving from Dec. 12, 1941-Nov. 16, 1945. He attended Steven's-Henegar College. He worked with his uncle at Greenhagen Nursery in Bountiful, Utah, and later worked for Varian Analytical as a leader in management, where he retired in 1986. He did people's taxes and helped them to develop a system to budget their money. He came up with his own bookkeeping system and was very good with finances. He grew up in the depression, and as a result valued the worth of things. He enjoyed growing his own vegetables, fishing, eating out in different restaurants and spending weekends with his grandkids. He loved hearing stories of Alaska, hunting and fishing from his oldest grandson Chad.

Married Georgia Ruth Powell in 1946. Parents of: Charles Richard (Faye) Greenhagen of San Dimas, CA; Jerry Lee (Gloria) Greenhagen of South Jordan, UT; and Sharon (Randy) Linschoten, of Magna, UT. Later divorced.

Parents of: Steven Dale (Jenny) Greenhagen of Salt Lake City, UT; John David (Linda) Cacia, Salt Lake City, UT; Kathy Rae Cacia, NC; Danny Dell Cacia, Salt Lake City, UT. Later divorced. She was a caregiver and friend to him for the last 24 years. Charley was a loving father, grandfather to 12 and great-grandfather to 21. We'll miss you, your humor, wisdom, whistling a tune, the Greenhagen Investment Fund and you always keeping things ship shape.

OBIT: The Deseret Memorial Mortuary Obituaries (Salt Lake City, UT)

GEORGIA RUTH DALTON

As the morning rays began to dawn September 19, 2014, Georgia Ruth Dalton, age 84, quietly slipped through mortal hands and into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father.

She was born October 3, 1929 in Logan, Utah to Harold O. Powell and Bessie A. Conder. Later the family of eight children moved to a large pioneer home on the west side of Salt Lake City. In 1972, David and Georgia bought and moved into her family home from South Salt Lake City, Utah, and lived there until her death.

She married and later divorced Charles Ray Greenhagen.

She remarried David Isaac Dalton September 11, 1953 and was later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on January 4, 1966.

She was an entrepreneur of many occupations in her lifetime. When her children were older, she worked at Granite School District Foods. She invested in several rental properties, on one large farm above Nephi, was the owner of Cousins Factory Outlet, and several other endeavors.
War and marriage at age 16 interrupted her education, but when her children were older she enrolled in night classes and obtained her diploma from So. High in the 70’s.

She raised a second generation family when Jeremy Dalton (Emily) and Jennifer Dalton (Melinda Shelton) came into their home as babies.

Several grandchildren at one time of their lives would also live under her roof or would rent an apartment from her.

She is survived by children: C. Richard Greenhagen (Faye), Jerry Lee Greenhagen (Glo), Sharon Ruth Linschoten, Marlin James Dalton, David Greg Dalton, Karl Joseph Dalton (Vanessa); 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and siblings: LaVone Stokes, Gene Powell (Ranae), and Theo Powell (Ruthie).

Preceded in death by: her parents; husband, David I. Dalton; son, Paul Rusell Dalton; grandson, Mathew Dalton; son-in-law, Randy Linschoten; siblings: Dona Miller (Ray), Harold Powell (Gladys), Maridean Bean, and Ann Knudsen.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 26, 2014 at the Cannon Stake Center located (south of Jordan Park) 934 West Fremont Avenue, Salt Lake City, Utah. A viewing will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Deseret Mortuary, 36 East 700 South, Salt Lake City, Utah. The family wishes to thank Intermountain Hospice for their kind care given to Georgia the last couple weeks of her life. The family also wishes to thank Mary Jorgensen for her tender care for Georgia for the last three years.
