OBIT: The Salt Lake Tribune, 11 OCT 2011

C. Ray Keller - Manti, Utah

Calvin Ray Keller , 82, passed away October 7, 2011.

He was born to Calvin "Tom" and Lillie Barton Keller on August 15, 1929 in Manti.

Ray is a graduate of Manti High School. As a gifted musician, he played trombone with dance bands throughout the state of Utah for several years. Ray attended Utah State University and then came home to run the family livestock operation. He farmed for 35 years. On August 8, 1949 he married Emma Lou Larsen in the Manti Temple.

On November 26, 1974, at the age of 45, Ray and Emma Lou were in a terrible car accident. Ray saw the need for Emma Lou to attend the finest rehabilitation center in the country and moved to Denver, CO in 1975. The story of their faith, courage, love, determination and rehabilitation over 36 years is remarkable. Abraham Lincoln said, "To ease another's heartache is to forget one's own." Rays life, love and care for Emma Lou and others reflect that truth.
For 12 years in Denver, Ray was an entrepenur involved in several small businesses including automotive repair and real estate. In 1987 they returned home to Manti. Ray served on the Manti City Council, as well as in other civic organizations, and was a dyed-in-the-wool-Republican. He served in the Church as the executive secretary to several bishops and as High Priest Group Leader. He was a faithful home teacher and loved his family, the temple and the Mormon Miracle Pageant.

A Prophet once said, "The greatest gift a father can give to his children is to love their mother." Ray has given that gift for over 62 years.

Ray is survived by his wife; children: Terry Ray (Margret) Keller- Centennial, CO; Kallene (Jim) Braithwaite, Manti; Karen (Duane) Thomas, Lake City, FL; Thomas Averill (Pam) Keller- Parker, CO; 13 grandchildren, 10+ great grandchildren; brother, Jacob J. (Ricky) Keller, Bend, OR; sister, Kathryn K. (Lyman) Stevens, Logan. Preceded in death by: parents; sister, Helen (Jack) Higbee; brother, Karl (Ruth) Keller; grandson, Jimi Braithwaite; son-in-law, Jim Braithwaite; daughter-in-law Pam Keller.

Emma Lou Larsen

Comments: Mother of Kallene Keller who md James Mellor Braithwaite

OBIT: The Salt Lake Tribune, 23 NOV 2011

Emma Lou Keller

Manti, Utah - Emma Lou Larsen Keller, 82, passed away November 20, 2011.

She was born to W. Averill and Ruth Tuttle Larsen on August 24, 1929 in Fountain Green.

Nicknamed "Lightning Sure Shot", she could outrun all the boys in town barefooted. At the age of 14, she moved with her family to Manti. During her high school and college years, Emma Lou was a prom queen and cheerleader. She was a graduate of Manti High School and attended Snow College. On August 8, 1949 she married Calvin Ray Keller in the Manti Temple. Ray's father, Tom Keller told Ray, "If you're not smart enough to marry Emma Lou, then I will!" Her eternal sweetheart, passed away on October 7, 2011.

Emma Lou was a Golden Gleaner, homemaker, seamstress, gardener, administrative assistant in the school system, and was active in many civic organizations, however her first priority was always her family. She served for over 30 years in the Primary, where she held nearly every position.

On November 26, 1974, at the age of 45, Ray and Emma Lou were in a terrible car accident which left Emma Lou partially paralyzed. Ray saw the need for Emma Lou to attend the finest rehabilitation center in the country and moved her to Denver, CO in 1975. The story of their faith, courage, love, determination and rehabilitation over 36 years is remarkable. The saying, "Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others, cannot keep it from themselves" was magnified in Emma Lou's beautiful smile, in her joyful countenance and in her determination and hope that one day she would be whole. She has touched many lives, softened many hearts, lifted many spirits. Her special gift to look for the good in others and never speak unkindly is unusual. Her unfailing testimony of the Gospel and love for the Lord was inspiring. Since 1987, Emma Lou served as the Mormon Miracle pageant Information Director, answering calls day and night through the years. She never missed a single performance of the pageant and has hosted hundreds of visitors on her lawn, opening her kitchen, bathroom and heart to everyone.

Emma Lou is survived by her children: Terry Ray (Margret) Keller, Centennial, CO; Kallene (Jim) Braithwaite, Manti; Karen (Duane) Thomas, Lake City, FL; Thomas Averill (Pam) Keller, Parker, CO; 13 grandchildren, 10+ great-grandchildren; sister Betty (David) Christensen, Grand Junction, CO; sister, Vera (Dan) Spencer, Centennial, CO.
Also preceded in death by: parents, son in law, Jim Braithwaite; grandson, Jimi Braithwaite; daughter in law, Pam Keller.
