He married Eleanor Braithwaite, February 16, 1898, at Manti. In his early manhood he was engaged in the drug store business in Spanish Fork, and known as an outdoor enthusiast and sportsman. The opening prayer was offered by Bishop Elisha Warner, after which Gilbert Y. Johnson sang "Out of the Dusk to You," accompaniment by Mrs. Fern Brockbank. Tributes written by Spencer Mackley and Gene Braithwaite were read by Mrs. Ruth H. Brockbank. Speakers were Mayor John E. Booth, Judge Joseph E. Nelson, and President Henry A. Gardner, all of whom spoke of the many admirable traits of character of the deceased. During the services a solo, "Let This Be Heaven," was sung by Blaine Johnson, accompanied by Beulah Madsen; and a duet, "Beautiful Sunset," was sung by Nelda Christensen and Leah Webb, with Mrs. Hazel C.            [By Alta] Dad usually cooked breakfast and got us ready for school. He worked split shifts at the Drug Store and enjoyed taking care of the children and their needs. We loved him, dearly. He was such fun and we made a game of everything working together, to get our chores done. We laugh a lot...
Dad, because of his feet, was not able to do heavy work and a lot of walking. He was born with two club feet and must have found this somewhat of a handicap in many ways. He attended school in Spanish Fork and at Brigham Young Academy. Here, he studied pharmacy and so went into the drug business as a young man. Many years later, when I attended Brigham Young University myself [1921-1924] President George H. Brimhall called me to his office one day, and told me about my father being a student there. He told me what a splendid student he was and what a proud heritage I had to live up to. He said he also knew Grandfather Dedrickson and his work in the church. I shall always cherish that visit...
Then there was the day when papa brought home a new-angled invention called an automobile. It was made by Henry ford and called his Model T. What a thrill!! We all loaded in and went clear to Provo to see Barnum and Bailey's big three-ring circus. There were real elephants, monkeys and clowns. The parade was coming down Main Street and we were parked so we could see. The clown ran over and started counting us out loud and threw his hands in the air and yelled "poor papa." This was the only car in town, except Dr. Warner, we were quite a novelty. Everyone would stop, look and listen. Some of the older generation wondered what this world was coming to...

Eleanore Braithwaite

BIOGRAPHY: Ruth Dedrickson Granger, a daughter, in her story, "As I Remember Mama" writes, "My first recollection of home was living down on North Main Street in Spanish Fork. Shortly after this, we moved to Second West because Mama was expecting a new baby and we needed more room. Well, the baby arrived all right only there were two of them – again! I'm sure it must have been a shock to have two pairs of twins in four years. Mother loved gardening. Dad worked split shifts at the drug store. Dad attended school in Spanish Fork and Brigham Young academy. He studied pharmacy and went into the drug business as a young man. Prior to marriage, Mother came to Salt Lake City and learned to do professional dressmaking. She did beautiful sewing and made lovely wedding gowns, suits and dresses, drafting her own patterns. She had a beautiful singing voice and was a member of the Tabernacle Choir. She was active in The Church of Jesus of Christ of Latter-day Saints serving as a Relief Society visiting teacher and making clothes for the dead."

[By Alta] Well, this home had a big lot, so mother decided she must have a garden. She loved gardening and could make anything grow. Dad had a man come to the lot and prepare the ground and furrows, but mother was the one who planted the seeds and watched over the garden and flowers. She had almost as many flowers as vegetables and gave them all the same loving care. She was never happier than when working here. She always got up at dawn to work here while it was cool. Then she would take a short nap, if possible...
Mother had a beautiful singing voice and she loved to sing. She had the opportunity to studying with Anthony Lund, while she was living in Salt Lake and also was a member of the Tabernacle Choir. She enjoyed singing and as a child, I can remember her singing as she sewed or went about her work...
