John Crawford, an old and respected citizen of this city, died last Thursday afternoon at his residence. Mr. Crawford had been ailing for some time and those who attended him knew that he would not last long.
He was born September 30, 1829, in Wixton, Peebleshire, Scotland, and in the early fifties emigrated to Utah, and in 1853 married Cecelia Sharp. He was the father of a large family and most of his children survive him.
Impressive funeral services were held at the Council House on Sunday afternoon. The speakers were John B. Maiben, John Lowry, Sr., J. D. T. McAllister, George E. Bench, Sr., David Shand and Bishop William T. Reid. Each of these gentlemen were friends and acquaintances of long standing of deceased. They spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr. Crawford and bore testimony to his honor and sterling qualities. Mr. Crawford was a consistent Latter-day Saint, and at various times held position in the church. The entire community sympathizes with the bereaved family.
