Mickelsons Slate 50th Fete July 11
An open house has been planned for Saturday, July 11, 1970 in honor of Calvin and Della Mickelson on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary. Members of their family are planning the fete. The Mickelsons request no gifts.
The event will be held in the Manti Center Ward cultural hall from 8 until 10 p.m.
They were married July 14, 1920 in the Manti LDS Temple. They are the parents of two daughters, Bonnie M. Christensen and Lucile M. Howard. The Mickelsons have eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Calvin was born August 2, 1897 in Venice, Sevier, Utah, to Louis Peter and Annie E. Hougaard Mickelson. He moved to Manti when he was five years old. In his younger life he and his father operated a saw mill in Manti Canyon for 10 years which was known as Louis Mill.
In 1925, he bought half interest in Ottosen, Braithwaite Meat Market. The name was later changed to Mountain Market. Cal cut meat for 19 years. He fed and processed his own animals.
He acquired a small ranch and stocked it with cattle. He rode herd and managed the cattle on summer range for Manti-Sterling Cattle Association for 16 years, and was selected as King Cowboy in 1956. He helped organize the first riding club in Manti. Mr. Mickelson is also a charter member of the Manti Lions Club which was organized 35 years ago. He has served two terms as presient of the club.
He has also held the post of president of the Sanpitch Pow-Wow and has served on the fair board. He has been a member of the city council for four years. His interests have always been livestock and his hobby has been horses. He has served on a number of church committees and is presently a member of the high priests quorum in the Manti Center Ward.
Della is a daughter of John W. and Sarah Jane Davienport Boyington. She was born in Manti, October 8, 1897 and graduated from Manti High School in 1917. She taught school in Gunnison Valley. She worked two years in the Manti Temple as a proofreader. Mrs. Mickelson has served as a teacher in the Sunday School and Primary and was a counselor in the MIA. She worked in the Relief Society for ten years, three of which she was president.
Mrs. Mickelson was a partner in the Ladies Style Shop.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Mickelson have worked on the old folks committee for 10 years and served as chairmen of the ward banquet committee for seven years.
