Pioneer Woman Passes At Home Of Son On Monday
Mrs. Mary Louisa Cox Tatton, 86, died peacefully at 10:45 Monday evening at the home of a son, Wallace Tatton after a two-weeks illness from causes incident to age. She started showing signs of failing health on her birthday anniversary, November 25. Soon after that she went to bed not to arise again. Her mind and memory, however, remained alert and keen until the end.
Mrs. Tatton was born in Manti November 25, 1864, a daughter of Fredrick Walter and Lucy Allen Cox and had always made Manti her home. She was married to James B. They were the third couple married on the first day of ordinance work done in the temple. Mr. Tatton died May 4, 1949.
Mrs. Tatton had all the qualities of a pioneer and went through many of the experiences of the early settlers of the community. She was one of the early school teachers and was active as a Relief Society, Primary and Sunday School teacher. She collected the genealogy of her father's family and spent many years doing work in the temple.
She served as president of the Manti Camp, Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and it was during her presidency that the local relic hall was established. She was largely responsible for cataloging all of the relics placed there.
Surviving are three sons, Ralph and Wallace Tatton, Manti, and Fred C. Tatton, Salinas, California; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lewis S. Cox, Provo, and a sister, Mrs. Lee DeMille, Monroe, and the following half-brothers and half-sisters: Howard and Roy Cox, Manti; Bruce Cox, Wallowa, Washington; Allie and Jean Cox, Salt Lake City.

Arlyn Howard Sperry
Arlyn Howard Sperry, 68, of Washington, Utah, passed away May 14, 2004 as a result of a long illness. He was born September 13, 1935 in Provo, Utah, a son of Sidney B. Sperry and Eva (Braithwaite) Sperry. Arlyn attended Provo schools and graduated from Brigham Young University in 1965.
Arlyn was married to Beverly Joseph and they had four children. They were later divorced and Arlyn returned to live in Utah after living in California and Washington. He married Geniel (Schemensky/Keller) on October 6, 1972. This marriage was later solemnized in the Provo Temple. Geniel had one son, Mark, from a previous marriage. Mark was later adopted by Arlyn.
After returning to Provo, Arlyn worked for the Utah Council of Governments. One of his responsibilities on that job was getting the Boys Club organized. He loved working with the youth and served in various positions in the Boy Scout Program for over 30 years. The position he held in the County was eliminated and Arlyn spent the next few years working in gas, oil, and precious metals exploration. He consulted for mine set-ups in Utah, Nevada, and Alaska. He then worked before his retirement at K-Tec in Orem, Utah. Arlyn was a member of the L.D.S. church. He loved his church, his family and all his many friends. He enjoyed outdoor sports such as tennis, golf, fishing and hunting. He had a real love for little league baseball. He coached as long as possible and then he enjoyed watching his sons play, and then his grandsons play. Even when he was very ill he found a way to attend all his grandsons' games. He loved the boys and they loved him. All the team referred to him as grandpa.
The Sperry family would like to give appreciation to Dr. Kurt Bodily, Dr. Chris Biesinger, Ellen Johnson, Dr. Dan Madsen and Applegate Homecare for the professional and loving way they have taken care of Arlyn and Geniel during the years of Arlyn's illness. They have shown love and concern while doing excellent health care.
Surviving family includes his wife, Geniel of Washington, UT, his children Garth Sperry of Sandy, UT, Brian (Leigh) Sperry of Highland Ranch, CO, Mark (Lori) Sperry of Orem, UT, Cindy (Dave) Robertson of Lakeside, CA and Keith (Mercedes) Sperry of Provo, UT, and 16 grandchildren. Additional surviving family includes sister, Elaine Fish of Las Vegas, NV, brothers, Delbert Sperry and Richard Sperry of Provo, sister, Karen Grant and brother, Brent Sperry, both of Salt Lake City, UT, and sister, Phyllis Bytendorp of St. George, UT.
