Peggy Lou Hansen Johnson Briathwaite, 85, died peacefully surround by her loved ones on Sunday, October 25, 2009. She was born on May 9, 1924 in Benjamin, Utah to Edmund and Della Humphries Hansen.

She married Kenneth Johnson on December 22, 1943 in Provo, Utah. They were later sealed in the Manti Temple on December 14, 1957. Together they had 12 children. Kenneth died on May 5, 1967. She then married Max Braithwaite in October of 1973. She welcomed his children, Mick, Tim, and Janice Gull into her life and family.

Mom grew up in Benjamin where she spent her early years, and when she was 12 years old her mother passed away and she moved to California for a few years to live with her older sisters. During her high school years, she returned to Benjamin and graduated from Spanish Fork High School.
After her marriage to Kenneth, she joined the Army and was proud to serve her country during World War II.

The time had finally come for her and Kenneth to start their family. To their marriage they were blessed with 12 children, Kathleen Memmott (deceased) Robert, Dennis (Sandra), Darrell (Charlott), Sandra Brown (Michael), Pam Bingham (Allen), Paula Tilley (Alan), Scott (Kaye), Pat Nelson (Jim “Shoe”), Greg (Kathleen), Brad (Bobi), Blake (Carrie), and Karla Jarvis (Joe). She has 65 grandchildren and 86 great-grandchildren.

Mom was a true homemaker, who loved and served her family and countless others. She served in many callings in both ward and stake positions. She was also a faithful visiting teacher for many years. She was called to serve as a missionary in the Arizona Tempe Mission and also loved serving as a Temple Worker in the Provo Temple where she served for over 10 years.

Mom loved anything that involved her family. You could find her at blessings, baptisms, dance review, ballgames of any kind, graduations, 31 games or a good video just to name a few. She was also an avid Jazz fan, and loved her Spanish Fork Dons Baseball. She truly understood the role of Mom and Grandma.

Mom enjoyed making quilts (especially baby), baby bibs, caramels and fattigamans that each family received countless of. Each new baby received a new quilt and everyone always received a Christmas package with the caramels and fattigmans.
Preceding her in death were her husbands, Kenneth and Max, her daughter Kathleen, and a grandson Jode Chase Bingham.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday October 29, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Spanish Fork 3rd Ward Chapel at 360 North 650 West in Spanish Fork, Utah. There will be a viewing Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Walker Mortuary, 187 South Main in Spanish Fork and Thursday morning at the church from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society or the Perpetual Education Fund.

As a family we are grateful for the care from Vista Hospice, especially Nancy, Sue, and Dr. Garner, Dr. LeRoy and Cindy, but most of all her 7th son, Dr. Steven Wallentine who she truly loved. Thank you all, for the sweet care you gave our Mom."

Reed Braithwaite, age 81 years, passed away Sept. 6, 2009.

Reed attended schools in Spanish Fork, Utah , and graduated from BYU with a teaching degree. After graduating, he taught school and coached basketball, football and other sports in Rockland , Idaho. Panaca, Nevada , spending most of his teaching career in Elko , Nv. , touching many young lives.

After his retirement , Reed and Loraine traveled extensively around the western states playing Bridge and enjoying the sights and making friends. Reed was a certified Life Master Bridge player and ran the Elko Duplicate Bridge Club for many years. Reed was an avid BYU and Utah Jazz fan , always following the teams throughout the years.

Reed is survived by his wife of 63 years, Loraine and children, Elden (deceased), Johnnie (Barbara), Debra, Rusty (Betty) , 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Sat. Sept. 12, 2009 at 11AM in the LDS Church, 3001 N 5th St. Internment will be in Spanish Fork, Ut Cemetery at a later date.

She was born March 7, 1916 to George D. and Ellen Peacock Braithwaite in Manti, Utah. She was very talented, watercolors, crafts, and poetry. We will miss her hand painted cards and poems. She was vastly interested in astronomy. She was a career LPN, working for various hospitals in the Salt Lake area.

She is survived by her children, Larry R. (Sharlene) Christensen, and Elaine (Cliff) Conlon; grandsons, Tony L. (Joyce) Christensen and Craig Christensen and great-grandchildren Jade and Crystal Christensen, also her long time friend William (Bill) W. Means. Preceded in death by her parents and Brother Wilson.

Graveside services under the direction of Russon Brothers Salt Lake Mortuary will be held on Wednesday, August 5th, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Manti City Cemetery.

KEARNS, UTAH - Verlan J. Braithwaite, 74, of 4822 South 4480 West, Kearns, formerly of Ogden and Huntsville, died at his home Thursday following an extended illness.

He was born at Ephraim August 20, 1899, a son of Joseph L. and Caroline Willardsen Braithwaite.

He attended school in Ephraim, graduated from Snow College and the Utah State University.

He had lived in Ogden and Huntsville and had been a music teacher in Utah schools for 45 years.

He was a membr of the LDS Church and was a high priest in the Kearms 3rd Ward. He had been music director in the church and had been a member of a bishopric.

He was married to Nina Halls in the Manti Temple on December 21, 1921.

Surviving are his widow, two sons and one daughter, Neldon H. Braithwaite, Ogden; Kim Braithwaite, Tucson, Arizona; Mrs. Darwin L. (Coralie) Richardson, Murray; two sisters and one brother, G. Earl Braithwaite, Ogden; Mrs. Elva Siler, Hamilton, Montana; and Mrs. Edna Smith, Ogden; 13 grandchidlren.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 S. Redwood Road, with Bishop Robert Oliverson officiating.

Friends may call at the mortuary Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and prior to services on Monday."

     Nina was born March 7, 1899 in Mancos, Colorado, a daughter of William and Ellen Barker Halls. She married Verlan J. Braithwaite[0] Dec. 21, 1921 in the Manti LDS Temple. She was a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.Nina is survived by her sons, Neldon H. Braithwaite[0], Ogden; Kim Braithwaite[0], Tucson, Ariz.; and her daughter Coralie Richardson, Murray; a brother, Dale Halls, Yarrington, Nevada; a brother-in-law, Earl Braithwaite[0], Ogden; nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
     Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1992 at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 So. Redwood Road, where friends may call Tuesday, December 1, from 6-8 p.m. and Wed." Date of article 1 december 1992  buried at Redmond Memorial Estates.
