Floyd B. Bown

Floyd Braithwaite Bown, 75, former Utahn, died September 9, 1973 at his home in Granada Hills, California of natural causes.

Born July 21, 1898, Manti, Utah to Hyrum and Isabelle Braithwaite Bown. He was educated in the Manti schools. He married Ethel Jenson from Ephraim October 24, 1924, Salt Lake City LDS Temple.

He was a school teacher for awhile and later a pharmacist. He spent several years as a drug salesman to pharmacists and doctors.

He is survived by one son and one daughter, Roger Lee, Granada Hills, California and Mrs. Gerald O'Brien (Dorothy) from Bountiful; seven grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Lucien, Chester, utah; Robert, Manti; Glen, Eureka, California; Mrs. Joseph (Alta) Coleman, Heber City; Mrs. Thelma Whitlock, Salt Lake City; and Mrs. Edmond (Elaine) Higham, Manti.

The funeral was Friday at noon in the Yalecrest Ward in Salt Lake City. Burial was in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.

Going to the services from Manti were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bown and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Higham."

Ramona Francom Braithwaite Date December 02, 2005

Ramona Francom Braithwaite 90, returned to her Heavenly Father on November 28, 2005 after a long illness.

She was born April 30, 1915 in Payson, Utah, the daughter of Ivy Richardson and James Arthur Francom.

Ramona married Melvin Braithwaite February 20, 1933 in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of Colleen (Wayne) Bateman, Venita (Willard) Stolworthy, Ronald (Sharon) Braithwaite and Geri (Curtis) Robbins. Ramona has 24 Grandchildren, 90 Great Grandchildren, and 4 Great-great Grandchildren. She was special in all of their lives, and will be missed by each of them.

Ramona is survived by her sister, Keturah Thomas, her brother, Arthur L. Francom, as well as all of her children. She is preceded in death by her husband and a brother, James Derwin Francom.
Ramona has always been an active member of the L.D.S. Church. She served in the Primary for 28 consecutive years, loving each one. She loved being in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers (Sun Bonnet Camp) and loved each of the sisters.

On December 5, 2005 a viewing will be held at the 15th Ward Chapel on 300 East Center in Spanish Fork, Utah, from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. Funeral Services will follow at 12:00 noon. Burial will be in the Spanish Fork Cemetery.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Heart for Hospice, for the loving care they provided. Especially Aliesha, Lori and Nikki and everyone else who went the extra mile in providing care for our mother."

Shirlene Braithwaite Wiscombe, age 65 of Mapleton, passed away Saturday, June 26, 2010.

She was born January 12, 1945 in Spanish Fork, Utah to George Davis and Evelyn Clara Madsen Braithwaite.

She married Edward M. Wiscombe July 15, 1966 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Shirlene was born and raised in Spanish Fork, graduating from High School and Seminary with honors in 1963. In 1961, she was a delegate to the United Nations Model Assembly at University of Utah. In 1963, she was a sterling scholar in foreign language for Utah in Russian. Shirlene attended both Utah State and B.Y.U.

Shirlene served as Relief Society President for several different wards. She also served as homemaking counselor, directed several family history centers and worked in the Provo Temple until her health prohibited her.

She is survived by her husband of Mapleton; one son and two daughters: Shelly (Eric) Flanders of Springville, Edward M. Jr. (Melissa) Wiscombe of Mapleton, Stacy Louise (Todd) Barney of Springville; and one granddaughter. She is also survived by two sisters: Arlene (Jim) Hendricks of Texas, and Connie Joy Rowe of Idaho. She was preceded in death by parents, one brother and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the LDS Chapel at 1600 North Main in Mapleton.

There will be a viewing held Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 82 West 400 North in Mapleton and Thursday at the church one hour prior to the services.

Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Connie married her high school sweetheart, Paul Brockbank Rowe, in the Salt Lake City Temple, May 29, 1968.

Connie was raised in Spanish Fork, and graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1965. Connie had many talents and found great joy in being a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She also loved her career as a cosmetologist. Her hobbies included sewing, decorating, gardening, and painting, just to name a few.

Connie was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served faithfully in many callings. Connie had a unique ability to love and make anyone feel welcome. She had a contagious personality and was adored by many.

She is survived by one son and four daughters: Brian (Jody) Rowe of Boise, ID; Heather (Ranes) Carter of Lehi, UT; Terri (Doug) Yarrington of Orem, UT; Kimberlee (Blaine) Bergin of Emmett , ID; and Allison (Larry) Bess of Springville, UT; and her 12 grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister: Arlene (Jim) Hendricks of Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her parents; brother, Paul; sister, Shirlene; and son, Eric.

Richard Braithwaite, 81, of Sioux Falls, died Monday, September 8, 2008 at Avera Prince of Peace Retirement Village.

Richard B 'Dick' Braithwaite was born November 15, 1926, to Gale and Beth Braithwaite in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He grew up in Sioux Falls where he received his education, graduating from Washington High School in 1944. Following high school, he entered military service and served in the U.S. Army from 1944 until his honorable discharge as a Tech Sergeant in 1946. Upon his return from the military, he attended the University of Minnesota from which he graduated on August 24, 1950 with J.D and L.L.D. degrees in law. He returned to Sioux Falls and began his law practice in 1951 with his father, Gale Braithwaite. In 1973, he was appointed judge of the Second Judicial Circuit by Governor Richard Kneip. During his time on the bench, he presided over the Minnehaha Courthouse riot trials in the 1970’s. He served on the bench until 1980. He continued practicing law until his retirement in 1989.

Dick was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of which he was a member for nearly 70 years, where he served as an Elder, a Deacon, and was a dedicated Bible teacher. He served as chairman of the Minnehaha County Red Cross and was on the Minnehaha County Mental Health Board. Dick was on the board of the Sioux Falls Parks Department, and was on the boards of directors for the South Dakota Golf Association and the Y.M.C.A. Other activities include being a tutor at Eugene Field Elementary School, being an avid golfer, and spending time with his family. Mr. Braithwaite was a missionary to Taiwan as well as central and eastern Africa.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Marty Braithwaite; his children, Mindy Braithwaite, Thomas (Tacey) Braithwaite, and Timothy (Mary) Braithwaite, all of Sioux Falls; and three grandchildren, Alison, Matthew, and Arianne and her fiancé, Jeffrey Lehn. He also has one great granddaughter, Raelyn. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Betty Lou Handy.

Memorial services will be held 2:30 pm Friday at First Presbyterian Church. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, Main Avenue location.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Banquet, or the Seed Sowers Ministry of First Presbyterian Church.

Betty Lou Handy, age 75, died July 10, 2005, at the Good Samaritan Village of Sioux Falls, SD.

Betty Lou, daughter of Gale & Beth Braithwaite was born December 11, 1929, in Sioux Falls.

She graduated from Washington High School. In 1952 she received her B.A. degree in Religious Education from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN. Shortly after college Betty Lou married Oliver C. Handy that same year in Sioux Falls.

In 1959, Betty Lou returned to Sioux Falls with her three young sons, David, Mike, and Doug to begin her elementary teaching career of nearly thirty years in the Public School System. During this time she also earned a Master’s Degree in Children’s Literature from Augustana College in 1969. She loved teaching children to read and continued this passion after retirement by spending six months in 1995 as a volunteer in mission to Taiwan, teaching English as a second language at the Presbyterian Church of Taipai. She also was a tutor in various reading programs for refugees and immigrants in the Sioux Falls area. Betty Lou was a devout Christian and a dedicated fifty- year member of First Presbyterian Church of Sioux Falls, serving in many capacities including: elder, deacon, mission & stewardship boards, caring friend programs, teaching Sunday School, as well as a Bethel Bible Study course, and serving where else she may be needed. She was committed by her faith to reach out to others by also volunteering in many community organizations such as Meals on Wheels and The Banquet. She relished her social time by participating in a number of activities such as Presbyterian Women, Bible Study Fellowship, P.E.O. and book groups.

Betty Lou was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her brother, Richard (Martha) Braithwaite of Sioux Falls and three sons: Dr. David Handy (Irene) recently of Sioux Falls and sons Mike (Maxine) Handy and Doug (Pam) Handy of Lake City, Fl. Other close family members grateful for sharing her life include: grandchildren, Joel & Kara Handy of Wheaton, IL; niece Mindy Braithwaite; nephews Dr. Tom (Tacey) Braithwaite; Tim (Mary) Braithwaite all of Sioux Falls, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren of Lake City, Fl.

Betty Lou Handy, age 75, died July 10, 2005, at the Good Samaritan Village of Sioux Falls, SD.

Betty Lou, daughter of Gale & Beth Braithwaite was born December 11, 1929, in Sioux Falls.

She graduated from Washington High School. In 1952 she received her B.A. degree in Religious Education from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN. Shortly after college Betty Lou married Oliver C. Handy that same year in Sioux Falls.

In 1959, Betty Lou returned to Sioux Falls with her three young sons, David, Mike, and Doug to begin her elementary teaching career of nearly thirty years in the Public School System. During this time she also earned a Master’s Degree in Children’s Literature from Augustana College in 1969. She loved teaching children to read and continued this passion after retirement by spending six months in 1995 as a volunteer in mission to Taiwan, teaching English as a second language at the Presbyterian Church of Taipai. She also was a tutor in various reading programs for refugees and immigrants in the Sioux Falls area. Betty Lou was a devout Christian and a dedicated fifty- year member of First Presbyterian Church of Sioux Falls, serving in many capacities including: elder, deacon, mission & stewardship boards, caring friend programs, teaching Sunday School, as well as a Bethel Bible Study course, and serving where else she may be needed. She was committed by her faith to reach out to others by also volunteering in many community organizations such as Meals on Wheels and The Banquet. She relished her social time by participating in a number of activities such as Presbyterian Women, Bible Study Fellowship, P.E.O. and book groups.

Betty Lou was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her brother, Richard (Martha) Braithwaite of Sioux Falls and three sons: Dr. David Handy (Irene) recently of Sioux Falls and sons Mike (Maxine) Handy and Doug (Pam) Handy of Lake City, Fl. Other close family members grateful for sharing her life include: grandchildren, Joel & Kara Handy of Wheaton, IL; niece Mindy Braithwaite; nephews Dr. Tom (Tacey) Braithwaite; Tim (Mary) Braithwaite all of Sioux Falls, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren of Lake City, Fl.

A clipping received by C. G. Braithwaite tells of the death of G. Forest Braithwaite, 60. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Braithwaite of Manti and was born in this community.

He was nationally known as a tennis player and coach. He and his son, Robert, won the national "Father and Son" tennis championship. He coached his son in the game and saw him win many regional and state titles, just recently taking a tournament at South Bend, Indiana.

Mr. Braithwaite was in the foundation garment business, manufacturing the nationally know Hypatia garments.

He is survived by his wife, Rozetta, and son, two daughters, five grandchildren and a brother, Gale Braithwaite of Sioux Falls, South Dakota."
