George V. Pederson, was born to George Henry and Clara Anderson Pederson on April 17, 1913.
He died at his home in Orem, Utah, Tuesday, February 24, 2004. Although Mr. Pederson holds degrees from Snow College, Utah State University and Brigham Young University, his real Alma Mater is good old SOHK (School of Hard Knocks). There he found the best teacher in the world...NECESSITY. He claims, "The best thing that ever happened to me was to be born poor. When I needed a bicycle, I earned parts from a couple of old ones and made one workable one. When a job of any kind had to be done, there was only one thing to do...learn how, and do it". As a result he became an expert of all trades and any skill needed he could supply it.
He taught Elementary, Jr. High, High School and College. Been a principal and High School Counselor, served in a Bishopric, Temple Ordinance Worker, Sunday School President, Priesthood teacher and a beloved Scoutmaster. Scouting ranked very high on his priority list and he had a keen sense of the responsibilities of his position. He liked his boys, he camped, ate, studied, played and reached with them for the cherished Eagle Badge. He, himself, earned 54 merit badges. He earned the Eagle, the Bronze, Gold and Silver Palms and was awarded the Silver Beaver.
On his birthday in 1935, he married his sweetheart, LaRue Funk, in Logan, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized June 17, 1936 in the Manti LDS Temple. Together they raised five daughters and one son. Mr. Pederson was never without a story, which always fit the situation and made a point. He was a rare blend of dignity and warmth that inspired the admiration and love of everyone he rubbed shoulders with.
He is survived by his children and their spouses: Ann and Stan Pope, Jana and Brad Hoover, Larry and Kirsten Pederson, all of Orem; Kathie and Warren Grames, Sandy; 26 grandchildren and 59 great-grand-children as well as his sister, Dorothy Reid, Orem. Layfe T. Boyington 1912 ~2007
On November 30, 2007, with his family by his side, Layfe T. Boyington peacefully passed from this earthly life to join his eternal companion, who had been waiting for this glorious reunion for 11 years.
Our father was born on April 18, 1912 to Robert Askew and Ann Davenport Boyington in Manti, Utah. He had one brother, Lloyd, and five sisters, Lucia, Eunice, and Leah. Lola and Sarah both died at birth.
He grew up in Manti where he graduated from Manti High School and went on to attend Utah State University. While in high school, Dad played basketball and was a very talented athlete. His love for this game never went away. He enjoyed watching a good game of basketball whenever he could get the chance. He supported his sons, his great-grandsons and lived for the Utah Jazz. Speaking of the Utah Jazz, he was probably one of their most loyal fans. The world had to stop on Jazz basketball night. You were not allowed to talk, to call him or comment during the game and if they lost, it ruined his whole week. Dad was also a champion Horseshoe player and well known for his Checker and Chess games. When he was in competition, people would come from all over the town just to watch him play for hours.
Dad found his sweetheart just up the road in Manti, Utah. Their's was a long courtship but he finally convinced Mom to marry him on June 24, 1937 in the Manti Utah Temple. He considered one of his greatest accomplishments to be his family. He and his loving wife, Wilma Harmon Boyington raised three incredible sons, Richard Layfe (Veone), Carl Bryant (Janice) and Chauncey Robert (Catherine). They were blessed with 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grand-children, and one great-great- grandchild. He enjoyed his grandchildren more than anything else in life. Our Dad was a kind and gentle man who was a Farmer by trade. You could hear him whistle and sing as he went about his work on the farm and with his animals. He had a special talent when relating to his cattle and sheep. There was no need for a horse to round them up, he just had to step into the field and they would come running for a back scratch. Anyone watching this happen was amazed.
Dad also spent some years working for the State of Utah on the Snow College campus. Dad and Mom spent the greatest years of their life as ordinance workers in the Manti Utah Temple. They made many wonderful friends and touched countless lives during their time there. They were both very devoted servants in the Gospel. Dad served as Ward Clerk with five different Bishops. He had a great sense of humor. People gathered around him just to hear his stories, his jokes and the poems he made up right off the top of head. He also had a very beautiful singing voice. He even sang his last instructions to his family in rhyme. Our family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to the caring staff of Apple Tree and Legacy House Assisted Living, Manor Care and Alpine Hospice for the kind and loving care they gave to our Father.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 5, at 12:00 p.m. in the Manti 4th LDS Ward Chapel, 300 South Main, Manti. Family and friends may attend a viewing on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the 4th Ward.

Catherine Sharp
POCATELLO-Catherine Sharp, 94, passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at her daughters home, following a battle with a lingering illness and was surrounded by her family.
She was born on July 28, 1916 in Spanish Fork, Utah and was the 11th child of Albert James and Catherine (Braithwaite) Mackley, another sister Martha would join this family two years later.
At one year of age the family moved to Teton Valley, Idaho where her father ran a shoe and harness shop in Driggs, also had a small farm in Bates, five miles west of Driggs, this is where Catherine received her education, both in Bates and Driggs.
She loved to sing and play the guitar. Catherine began singing in church at age three, standing on a chair, her father would say sing loud so Sister Riplinger can hear.
She had the opportunity to be in an operetta at this age also. Catherine needed a doll and rocking chair, but her parents were poor and she wasn’t sure she would get what she needed, but Santa came early that year. Catherine had her doll and her brother Robert had made the rocking chair.
Catherine married Benjamin Walter Homer on August 4th 1933 and they had fun telling people the date of their marriage and saying their first daughter was born on the 5th, then would wait for the reaction and say three years later 1936. Benjamin and Catherine had three children; Edith Faye Leslie (husband Jim deceased) of Evanston, WY, Benjamin David Homer (deceased), his wife Sandra lives in Estacada, OR and Ardith (Gerald) Ballard of Pocatello, ID. After sixteen years of marriage they divorced.
She then married Walter Harper Furness, he was not a well man, and died five and a half years later. He was a good, kind and wonderful man. Catherine married Frank Edward Douglass on July 19, 1955. They adopted Randy Joe as an infant of eight months. Randy is married to his sweetheart Terrie and they reside in Presto, ID.
Catherine and Frank were later sealed together in the Idaho Falls Temple on March 24, 1971. In January of 1978 on the 29th day of the month, Frank passed away due to Leukemia. Catherine’s last marriage was to Lyman J. Sharp and it took place in the Logan Temple on December 8, 1984. Lyman and Catherine served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Atlanta, Georgia.
Both Catherine and Lyman’s health began to fail them, both being 86 years old in 2001, Catherine moved to Pocatello, to live with Ardith and Gerald, and Lyman stayed in Preston, but lived with his son Val (Jeralyn) Sharp. Lyman passed away in 2004.
Three husbands preceded her in death as well as one son, two great-granddaughters, her parents and ten brothers and a sister. She is the mother of four children, 20 grand children, 38 great-grandchildren, and 48 great great-grandchildren.
She has left behind a legacy in her posterity of honesty, hard work, the desire to love one another, to serve God and to keep His commandments.
Funeral services for Catherine will be held on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the LDS chapel located on the corner of Hawthorne and Quinn. Visitation will take place at Colonial Funeral Home on Monday, January 24, 2011 from 6-8:00 P.M. as well as one hour prior to the services at the church from 10-11:00 A.M. Burial will follow at the Sugar City Cemetery at 3:15 P.M."2Vadna Jean Humble Mackley, Enid Eleanor Adams, C.
