Back Home to Rest
James Cordon Cahoon, an old-time resident of Manti, died in Cardston, Canada, September 30th. His remains were brought to this city for interment by his wife and his son Ed. Mr. Cahoon would have been 71 years of age last Wednesday.   He was among the early settlers in Manti and made this his home up until about 15 years ago when he moved to Cardston. During his residence in Manti he worked at carpentering and carried on the undertaking business. Mr. and Mrs. Cahoon spent the winter in Manti a year ago last winter. Funeral services were held at Carston before leaving there and at the Tabernacle in this city Monday. Out of town visitors attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ephraim Anderson, Mrs. Annie Jackson, and Earl Cahoon of Moroni, Mr. and Mrs. Eleanor Dedrickson of Spanish Fork,and a number of relatives from Sterling." Funeral Services Held Monday for Ellen Braithwaite

Funeral services for Ellen Peacock Braithwaite, 73, were held Monday at 1 p.m., with Bishop Frank Wanlass conducting.

Mrs. Braithwaite died in a Salt Lake hospital at 1:20 Thursday following a lingering illness.

She was born October 20, 1884, in Sterling, a daughter of George and Kezzie W. Peacock. She was married to George R. Braithwaite January 2, 1912. He died November 5, 1925.

An active member of the LDS Church, she served as a Relief Society teacher for a number of years and was well known for her acts of neighborly kindness. She took a great deal of pride in her home and its surroundings, and in her family.

Survivors are a daughter, mrs. Gene B. Barton, Salt Lake City; two grandchidlren, Larry B. Christensen and Mrs. Elaine C. Casterline, both of Salt Lake City; two sisters, Mrs. Dessie Thompson, Sterling, and Mrs. Janie Barton, Burbank, California.

Prelude and postlude music for the services was played by Jane Braithwatei, with other music by Edna Sorensen; and a vocal solo by Merrill Maylett, accompanied by Jane Braithwaite. A vocal solo and reading presentation was by Helen Stott and Jane Michelsen, with Mrs. Braithwaite as accompanist.

Prayer in the home was by Henry Maylett, with the invocation by Lloyd B. Johnson and benediction by Ambrose Tuttle.

Spearkers for the services were Andrew Judd, Girven Stott and Bishop Wanlass.

Burial was in the Manti City Cemetery under the direction of the Buchanan Mortuary, with the grave being dedicated by C. G. Braithwaite."

Services Held For Kezzie W. Peacock

Very impressive funeral services were held for Mrs. Kezzie W. Peacock Thursday afternoon, April 19, 1934 in the North Ward Chapel, under the direction of the North Ward Bishop E. T. Reid.

Relatives and friends of "Aunt Kezzie", as she was spoken of in endearment, paid beautiful tributes to her loving memory. The musical numbers and speeches were in harmony with her character.

Bishop Ludvigson spoke of the attribute of charity, which dominated her life as she ministered to the sick and helpless. Elder William Barton spoke of the great service she had rendered to her fellowmen. Other speakers were W. H. Baily, Mrs. John Riddle, and Ezra Shomaker.

The Relief Society choir sang, "Beyond Today", Mrs. Bell Barton and daughter, Bernice, sang "Jesus Lover Of My Soul"; Earl Symms of Moroni, a nephew of the deceased sang, "A Perfect Day", and the choir sang "Beyong The River."

The invocation was given by C. G. Braithwaite and the benediction by Bishop Anderson of Sterling. The grave was dedicated by Bishop E. T. Reid."

STERLING: Jay W. Peacock Dies

Jay W. Peacock of this place died at Mt. Pleasant last Tuesday from a re-attack of perotinitis. About ten weeks ago he was operated on for appendicitis, after whick perotinitis and other complications set in and another operation was performed. For some time there were doubts about his recovery, as he lay in a critical condition. He recovered sufficiently to be brought home on Tuesday of last week and seemed to be on the improve, but on Saturday was taken back to the hospital where he was operated on again without success. His mother, brothers and sisters and other relatives were present at the time of his death.

He was the son of George D. and Kezzia Peacock, both of whom survive him. He was born in Sterling March 12, 1887. He also leaves three sisters and two brothers, George D. Peacock Jr., Ross Peacock, Mrs. J. R. Tompson, Mrs. George Braithwaite and Mrs. Byron Barton.

The deceased was attending the Wasatch Academy at the time he was attacked with appendiciitus. He had bee a student at that institution for the past three years.

The time for the funeral services is set for 12 o'clock (noon) tomorrow at the Sterling School House, interment in the Manti Cemetery."

In August 2006, this index was turned over to the Idaho Falls Regional Family History Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho when Blaine Bake, who began the index, retired from the university.
