In his passing Manti loses one of her fine old men, his sunny disposition and congenial nature coupled with the happy faculty of minding his own business has secured for him a widening circle of lasting friends.
He was born in Sancashire, England, November 18, 1845. In 1861, having joined the L.D.S. Church, he with an ox train under Captain Murphy came to Utah, crossing the plains dock. He learned the hatter's trade after reaching Salt Lake. He followed his trade for some time after coming to Manti in 1866, but later took to farming. He was married in the Manit Temple to Sarah daughter of Samuel and Phoebe Mackey. His beloved wife has preceded him to the grave by a number of years.
He is survived by the following children: Edwin, Mrs. Sarah Jane Boyington, Mrs. Ann Boyington, Mrs. Elizabeth Madsen, Mrs. Alice Tuttle, Mrs. Maranda Buchanan all of Manti and Joseph, James and Mrs. Ethel Andersen and 23 g/children. Three children, Samuel, Mary E. and William have preceded their father to the grave.
Funeral services will be held in the Tabernacle Sunday, April 23rd, commencing at 2 p.m.

Margaret Maylett Closes Long Career, Funeral Tuesday
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the North Ward Chapel for Mrs. Margaret Maylett who died Saturday, after an illness of several months. Bishop Edgar T. Reid conducted the exercises. Opening prayer by J. H. Carpenter. Speakers were Pres. J. B. Jacobson, W. Lee Hall, Bishop N. R. Peterson and Bishop Reid. Music was rendered by the choir, with a solo by Vera H. Keller and a duet by Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Johnson. Benediction by Julius Jensen.
Mrs. Maylett, wife of the late William F. Maylett, was born in Liverpool, England November 25, 1848, a daughter of Thomas and Margaret Wilson. With her parents she came to Utah in 1855, settling in Salt Lake City, where they lived until 1858, when they moved to Ephraim, remaining there for two years, then moving in Manti where she has resided ever since.
She was married to William F. Maylett on October 26, 1865, in the old Endowment House in Salt Lake.
She was an active church member, working in the ward Relief Society for more than 20 years and always on hand in caring for the sick in her vicinity.
She was the mother of six children, James, Ann W., Frank, Mary E., Henry, and Edwin, thre of whom survive her, Mrs. Frank J. Tuttle, Frank and Henry, all of this city; also one sister, Mrs. Kezzie Peacock, 28 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren."

The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Douglas, who died at Dragarten, Utah, September 28, 1944, was brought to Manti for burial on September 29, 1944.
Funeral services were held at the home of the child's grandmother, Mrs. Jane Boyington of this city, Friday afternoon, with Bishop Girven Stott, in charge. Speakers were Clara P. Anderson and Ambrose Tuttle. James Green of Ephraim gave the opening prayer and Mrs. Thompson of Ephraim offered the benediction. A vocal duet was sung by Bishop Stott and Mrs. Mary Boyington."

Michael Hafen Killed in Crash
Funeral services for Michael Boyd Hafen, 19, were held in the Mt. Pleasant First-Fourth Ward Chapel Monday at 1 p.m.
Mr. Hafen died early Saturday morning when the compact car he was driving skidded off a snow-packed road and crashed into a utility pole which then fell atop the automobile. The mishap occurred as the auto was traveling west on Utah Highway 30 in Chester near the LDS Ward Chapel.
A passenger, Randall Livingston, 20, Moroni, was released from the Sanpete County Hospital with only minor injuries.
Mr. Hafen was born June 10, 1944 in Mt. Pleasant to Boyd W. and Johannah Madsen. He married Louise Merriam January 27, 1962.
Survivors are his widow, two children, a son, Kirk Hafen and a daughter, Michelle; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Boyd W. Hafen, all of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, JoAnn; Mrs. Kenneth (Donna) Pullman of Orem.
Services were conducted by Dave Hafen. Prelude and postlude music, Carolyn Hafen. Invocation was give by Frank G. Wanlass; opening song, "In The Garden," speaker, Ted Lasson; song, "Beyong The Sunset," Merrill Maylett, accompanied by Joyce Nelson.
A poem was read by Louis F. Seeley; remarks, Bishop Dave Hafen; closing song, "Not Now But In The Coming Years," rendered by Mack Morley, Harold Anderson, Charles Christensen and John Guymon, accompanied by Joyce Nelson.
Closing prayer was given by Arnold Stevens. Prayer in the home was by Tom Christensen.

WEST VALLEY CITY--Louise M. Kump, 46, died October 12, 1992, as a result of burns received in a house fire.
Born March 9, 1946 in Manti, Utah, a daughter of Edgar and Vonda G. Petersen Merriam. Married Michael B. Hafen, January 27, 1962, in Manti, Utah; he died March 7, 1964. Married Lyle Kump, December 17, 1966 in Elko, Nevada. Member LDS Church. Worked for Sperry Corp. Loved the outdoors and bowling. Loved her grandchildren and doing things with her family.
Survived by husband; son, Kirk Hafen, West Jordan; daughter, Michelle Rordame, West Valley City; grandchildren, Jacob and Cameron; mother, Manti; brothers and sisters, Mary Ursenbach, Mt. Pleasant; Connie Hansen, West Jordan; Drew Merriam and Anna May Thomas, both Manti; Wayne Merriam, San Diego, Calif.; Vonda Rae Poulsen, West Valley City; Burdell Merriman, Cedar City; Diana Clark, Riverton; and JoLynn Lund, Tuscon, Arizona.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, Oct. 15, 1992, 11 a.m., Manti City Cemetery. Friends may call Ursenbach Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant, Thursday, 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Kirk Michael Hafen, 32, passed away May 19, 1995 after a long illness.
Born September 8, 1962 in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, a son of Michael B. and Louise Merriam Hafen. After the death of his father, he was raised by Lyle Kump. Married Jody Despain, September 11, 1993 in Pleasant Grove, Utah.
Member of the LDS Church. Kirk was a lover of the great outdoors, camping, fishing and hunting. He was employed at Anderson Lumber in West Jordan. Kirk will be dearly missed by family, friends and all who knew him.
Survived by his wife, step-daughter, Shandee and an unborn child, step-father, Lyle Kump, and sister, Michelle, grandmother, Vonda Merriam, Toy and Connie Hansen, and many aunts and uncles.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 23, 1 p.m., Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 So. Redwood Rd. Friends may call Goff Mortuary, Monday from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 11:30-12:45 prior to services. Burial, Redwood Memorial Estates under the direction of Ursenbach Funeral Home."
