Manti's Oldest Citizen Passes From Peaceful Life
Mickel Peter Munk, who would have been 101 in September, one of the four oldest men in the state, died Monday at 8 p.m. in the home where he lived since 1858.
Mr. Munk was born September 2, 1844, on the island of Bornholm, Denmark, a son of Christian I. and Anne Marie Rasmussen Munk. His parents were converts of the LDS Church and he and his brothers and sisters accompanied them to America in the Fos_gren immigration Compnay, the first group of Scandinavian converts to come to this country of which he is the last known survivor.
On November 24, 1868, he married Eunice Ann Brown in the old Salt Lake Endowment House. Mrs. Munk died in 1936 at the age of 87. He was still alert and active up to within three days of his death, and quietly slipped away of causes incident to age. He never missed going to the polls for every election, local or national and voted in the last presidential election. Since he came to Utah the republic has had 17 presidents.
From one ewe which he received in payment for labor when 16 years old, he got his start in the sheep business, later purchasing 100 head of sheep and placing them in the Manti cooperative herd. He had owned a share in the herd since. He had engaged in the sheep and cattle business since that time, and only retired in recent years to work in his garden and enjoy his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He kept his own home, living next door to one of his daughters and within two blocks of all of his children.
Mr. Munk is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Minerva M. Davenport, Mrs. Mae M. Livingston and Mrs. Clara M. Anderson; one son, William Munk, and one brother, Ernest Munk, all of Manti. He had 18 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Three of his great-grandsons are in the army.
Funeral services were held yesterday in the Manti South Ward with Bishop Ernest Munk in charge of the services. Burial was in the Manti Cemetery."

Sister Munk Passes Peacefully
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the South Ward chapel for Mrs. Eunice Ann Brown Munk, who died rather unexpectedly at her home Saturday.
Sister Munk was born March 13, 1851 in Manti, a daughter of James P. and Eunice Reeser Brown. It has been her privilege and pleasure to assist in the work of building and colonization of this district. While ill health has prohibited her from active engagement in Church activities, she has been recognized for her extreme charitable nature and kindness to anybody in need. It is said of her home, that she always had so many of her grandchildren with her that it resembled a children's home.
Surviving her are her husband, Peter Munk, a son William Munk; three daughters, Mrs. Ed Davenport; Mrs. A. D. Livingston, and Mrs. L. R. Anderson, all of Manti; 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren."
