Lawrence Nelson Passes Away

Funeral services for Lawrence Niels Nielson, 78, were held Tuesday in the Manti South Ward. Mr. Nelson died of cancer Saturday at 7:28 a.m. in a Gunnison hospital.

He was born September 12, 1886 in Manti to Fritz Emanuel and Caroline Domgaard Nelson. He married Myrtle Larsen June 10, 1908, Manti LDS Temple. She died January 18, 1945. Married Ludell Anderson December, 1950. Divorced. Married Dora Powell Young April 2, 1957.

Mr. Nelson was a high priest in the Manti South Ward. He was a sheepshearer, farmer and livestockman.

Survivors include his widow; sons, daughters, Mrs. Roy (Melba) Reid and Mrs. Glendon K. (Ruth) Stubbs, both of Ephraim; Lawrence Robert, Mrs. Catherine Funk, Mrs. Gwendolyn June Lloyd, all of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Ervin (Jennie Lou) Peterson, Manti; stepdaughter, stepsons, Mrs. Doris Nelsen, Glen Young, Dallas Young, Pleasant Grove; 38 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Hans Peter Larsen, 85, a resident of Manti for the past 74 years were held in the Center Ward Chapel Sunday afternoon.

Opening and closing were by the ward choir, directed by Mrs. Rada Lund. Prayers were by Christian Munk and Julius Jensen. A cello solo was played by Carlyle Munk and Mrs. Stephny Larson sang "In The Garden." Mrs. Carlyle Munk read an original poem and Mrs. Elva Christiansen read resolutions of respect from the Daughters of the Pioneers. The speakers were John P. Johnson, J. H. Carpenter, A. H. Henrie and L. R. Anderson.

Many fine testimonies were given by these men relative to the sterling qualities of Mr. Larsen. They spoke of his integrity his dependability, his skill and industry as a farmer, his faithfulness to his church and his jovial spirit. His noble wife and children were remembered by the speakers.

Hans Peter Larsen, 85, resident of Manti for 74 years, died at his residence Friday, December 9, 1938, following an extended illness of heart trouble. He was born September 30, 1853 in Halborgh, Denmark, the son of Nels and Anna Hansen Larsen. In 1863, after having joined the Mormon Church, the family migrated to Utah. In 1864, Mr. Hansen moved to Manti. He was married to Catherine Crowther of Fountain Green, Utah, in the Endowment House of the Church.

He spent his life as a farmer and gardner until about 5 years ago. He was an active member in the High Priests Quorum of South Sanpete Stake and has done considerable temple work in the Manti L.D.S. Temple.

He is survived by his wife: 2 sons: George N Larsen of Provo, Utah and William Wallace Larsen, of Manti; 2 daughters: Mrs. Myrtle Nelson, Manti, Utah; and Mrs. Jennie Thomas of Wales, Utah; 29 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; also one brother, Attorney Lewis Larsen of Manti."

EPHRAIM, UTAH- Melba Nelson Reid, 91, of Ephraim, Utah, passed away June 7, 2006, in Orem.

She was born March 18, 1915, in Manti, Utah, to Lawrence Niels and Myrtle Larsen Nelson.

She married Roy F. Reid, on September 27, 1937 in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was later solemnized on July 10, 1950 in the Manti LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on October 20, 1992.

She is survived by her children, Charlene Deeben, Salem; Lawrence R. (Carol) Reid, St George; Douglas P. (Arlene) Reid, Fillmore; Vickie (Ted) Olson, Ephraim; and Gayle (Kim) Nielson, Provo; 25 grandchildren; and 47 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, grandson, James C. Deeben; one brother and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 12, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. in the Ephraim 7th LDS Ward Chapel, 400 East Center, in Ephraim. Friends may call at the ward chapel in Ephraim on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and again at the ward chapel on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Mantians' Relative Passes at Gunnison

Mrs. Hulda J. Nielson of Gunnison died at Gunnison on Wednesday of last week after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held in Gunnison on Saturday and burial followed in the Centerfield Cemetery.

Mrs. Neislon was a daughter of Mrs. Inger Lundgreen, a sister to Edwin Jensen and the mother of Glen S. Nielson, all of Manti.

Mrs. Nielson, 61, was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, April 28, 1892. She came to the United States with her parents when just a year old. They settled in Gunnison Valley when she was five years old and she has resided there since.

She is survivied by her husband, five sons and a daughter, five brothers, one sister and her mother.

Going from Manti for the funeral were the above mentioned relatives and Mr. and Mrs. Osmond Olsen, Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Braithwaite, Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Braithwaite and Charles Braithwaite."
