Edith Buchanan Bown, 96, of Manti, Utah, passed away May 18, 2007, in Mayfield.

She was born October 27, 1910, in Manti, Utah, to Raymond and Annie Buchanan. She married Lucien B. Bown on September 12, 1934 in the Manti LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on October 15, 2001.

She is survived by her son-in-law, Allen E. Olsen, Gunnison; grandchildren, Brent (Barbara) Olsen, Gunnison; Kim Olsen, Gunnison; Steven Olsen, Salt Lake City; Laurie (Curt) Ludvigson, Sterling; and Cathy Brown, Richfield; 22 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lucien; daughter, Mickey Olsen; great-granddaughter, Sheena Marie Newby; brothers and sisters, Royal, Clyde, Alfonzo, Pearl, Rueben, Anna, Duncan, Iris, Helen, Bessie

Mickey Bown

1Obituaries - Deseret Newspaper (ONLINE), 2009. " Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and friend Mickey Buchanan Olsen, passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2001 at the Gunnison Valley Hospital with many of her loved ones around her.
  She was born November 29, 1928 in Manti, Utah. She married Allen E. Olsen on June 15, 1948 in Manti, Utah and their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.
  Mickey was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served many callings in her wards and stake in primary and relief society. She was the first PTA president in Gunnison. She worked many years with her husband in the State Farm Insurance business in Gunnison. Together they enjoyed the work and travel experiences their business brought them.
  Mickey was an excelled reader. She especially enjoyed an early morning with a view of her yard with the garden and flowers blooming and a "good" book on her lap. She was devoted to her family. She often said her greatest joy was having her family near and cherished family gatherings whether for special occasions or just "stopping by" for a visit.
  Survivors include her loving husband of 53 years Allen E. Olsen; sons: Brent (Barbara) Olsen, Kim Olsen, and Steven (Sheila) Olsen, all of Gunnison, Utah; daughters: Laurie (Curtis) Ludvigson of Sterling, Utah and Cathy (Jim) Brown of Richfield, Utah; parents: Lucien and Edith[0] Bown[0] of Manti, Utah; brother-in-law; Boyd (Jerry) Olsen, Ephraim, Utah; 22 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and awaiting the arrival of three additional great-grandchildren this year. Preceded in death by one granddaughter, Sheena Marie Newby.
  Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 25, 2001 at 1 p.m. in the Gunnison Stake Center, Gunnison, Utah. A viewing for family and friends will be held on Sunday, from 6-8 p.m. and on Monday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to services in the Gunnison Stake Center under the direction of Buchanan Mortuary. Interment in the Gunnison Cemetery."

Lawrence Nelson Passes Away

Funeral services for Lawrence Niels Nielson, 78, were held Tuesday in the Manti South Ward. Mr. Nelson died of cancer Saturday at 7:28 a.m. in a Gunnison hospital.

He was born September 12, 1886 in Manti to Fritz Emanuel and Caroline Domgaard Nelson. He married Myrtle Larsen June 10, 1908, Manti LDS Temple. She died January 18, 1945. Married Ludell Anderson December, 1950. Divorced. Married Dora Powell Young April 2, 1957.

Mr. Nelson was a high priest in the Manti South Ward. He was a sheepshearer, farmer and livestockman.

Survivors include his widow; sons, daughters, Mrs. Roy (Melba) Reid and Mrs. Glendon K. (Ruth) Stubbs, both of Ephraim; Lawrence Robert, Mrs. Catherine Funk, Mrs. Gwendolyn June Lloyd, all of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Ervin (Jennie Lou) Peterson, Manti; stepdaughter, stepsons, Mrs. Doris Nelsen, Glen Young, Dallas Young, Pleasant Grove; 38 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the Manti South Ward Chapel Sunday at 2 p.m. for Myrtle Larsen Nelson. Glen Anderson was in charge of the following services: Prelude music by Mrs. George N. Larsen and daughter, Layne; Opening song by the choir, "Oh My Father"; prayer, John D. Nielson; speakers were Glen Anderson, A. H. Henrie, Mrs. John O. Nielson, President L. R. Anderson. Special musical numbers were given by Sam Parry, "Going Home"; Mrs. Grant Bond, solo, "I Am A Pioneer"; Layne Larsen of Provo played a violin solo, "Perfect Day"; South Ward Quartet sang the closing number "Lead Kindly Light." Benediction was offered by Alma Peterson. The grave was dedicated by a brother of Mrs. Larsen, George M. Larsen.

Mrs. Nelson was taken suddenly ill Friday afternoon, January 12, 1945, and was taken to the LDS Hospital Monday night where she underwent a serious operation which proved fatal. She died on Thursday, January 18, 195 at 2 a.m.

Myrtle Larsen Nelson was born November 15, 1888 at Manti, a daughter of Hans Peter and Catherine Crowther Larsen. She has lived in Manti all her life. She attended the Manti public school and high school.

On June 10, 1908, she was married to Lawrence Nelson in the Manti Temple by President Lewis Anderson.

She was an active member of the LDS Church, having served as a teacher in the Primary for a number of years, and as a visiting teacher of the Relief Society for 28 years.

She is survived by her husband, mother, and six children. They are as follows: Lawrence Robert Nelson, Elsinore; Mrs. Gwendolyn June Rodgers, Manti; Mrs. Melba Reid, Orem; Mrs. Jennie Lou Peterson, and Mrs. Ruth C. Stuff of Ephraim. She has 13 grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Jennie Thomas, Wales; two brothers, George N. Larsen of Provo and William Wallace Larsen, Salt Lake City."
