Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bessey of Manti are the proud parents of a baby boy, born Wednesday morning at Gunnison. This is the first child for the couple and he weighed 8 1/2 pounds. Mrs. Bessey is the former Lola Dee Schultz of Ephraim, and this is the first grandchild for Mrs. Arthur Schultz."

Afton Marie Smith (22 AUG 1919 - 9 JAN 2011)
Ogden – Afton Marie Smith, 91, passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at McKay-Dee Hospital. Afton was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 22, 1919 to John Emery and Charlotte Ethel Nye Massey. She graduated from Hamilton High School in Hamilton, MT. Afton married Earl Ephraim Smith on March 29, 1941 in Anaconda, MT; later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. In 1943 they moved to Ogden where they raised their 3 children. Earl passed away on September 20, 2004.
She was an active member of the LDS Church. In the old Ogden 4th ward she was involved in the Primary and was a teacher for many years and up to the time of her death she was an active visiting teacher in the Rock Cliff 2nd Ward Relief Society. She was active in "Pennies by the Inch" and the "American Heart Association".
She enjoyed spending time with her family, her rose garden, and was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed fishing with her husband, Earl, which was proven by the time they spent with their camper and boat at Flaming Gorge trying to see who could catch the largest fish, Afton was the winner!
Afton was preceded in death by her parents; husband Earl; 5 brothers, one great-grandson and one niece and her little red poodle, Ginger.
She is survived by her children, Brent E. Smith, Julie Bernice Johnson and Joan Marie Davies; 8 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and her beloved sister Bernice Merrill and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 14, 2011 at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. where a viewing will be held prior from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Interment, Myers Evergreen Memorial Park."
