Reed Payne

1NEWSPAPER, 2009. "Reed Payne, 80, returned to his Heavenly Father. He battled courageously with pancreatic cancer over the past 3 months. At his passing, he was surrounded at home by his eternal companion, Bonnie, his four children, and extended family. Reed has led a long, productive life filled with hard work, loving service, and deep devotion to his God and family. He was born on September 24, 1923, in Cardston, Alberta, Canada, and raised by faithful, good parents. His early years were spent on the ranch with his two brothers until a mission for the LDS Church took him to Australia. His marriage to Bonnie Lee Turner came next. Their marriage has been a model of devotion and dedication for 54 years. Following short stays in different parts of the country, they settled in Southern California where they developed rewarding and loving relationships with so many. After retirement, they moved to Utah where their children slowly gathered and where Dad enjoyed his twilight years. Reed was a lover of gardens, crossword puzzles, and morning walks. He had a gift with people. His legacy of love was manifest in the volume of friends that he gained and influenced. His kind interest in others, soft encouragement to those in need, and his unconditional acceptance of all whom he met, was reflective of his innate character that sought to follow in the footsteps of his Savior, Jesus Christ. Reed was privileged to serve his Heavenly Father in various church callings, none more loved than that of home teacher. His resume was long and rich with wonderful experiences. Our Father in Heaven used his talents with people to further His divine work. Dad is preceded in death by his parents, William and Jane, two younger siblings, William and Eleanor, and his brother, Max. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his brother, Paul Dee; his children: Wendy Braithwaite (Larry), Debbie Blackburn (Dennis), Glenn Payne (Valerie), and Reeta Ormsby (Daniel). He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and extended family that have been so significant in his life. Words are inadequate in summarizing the life of a good man. His enduring influence in the lives of those whom he touched will suffice. Thanks to all for being so good to our Dad. We love him. The funeral will be held on Monday, May 3, at 11 a.m., at the Lindon 12th Ward building, 435 North Canal Street (600 East) in Lindon, Utah. A brief viewing will precede the funeral. A viewing the night before, Sunday, will be held at the same church from 6-8 p.m. Published in the Daily Herald from 5/1/2004 - 5/2/2004." Bonnie Lee Turner Payne

Bonnie Lee Turner Payne, passed away Friday, January 25, 2008 at the age of 78 of heart failure.
She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, friend, and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Bonnie was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 19, 1929. She was the first child of Glenn and Reeta Turner. She enjoyed a happy childhood surrounded by loving family who taught her gospel values and service.

She attended BYU where she fell in love with Reed Payne. They were sealed on September 24, 1949 in the Cardston Alberta Temple. Their early years were spent in Chicago raising their family and enjoying lasting friendships. In1969 they moved to Palos Verdes, California where they continued their legacy of church service, love for family, and love for life. Lindon, Utah became their home in their later years. Bonnie benefitted from new friendships and opportunities for church service as she had done all of her life. After the loss of her dear husband Reed in 2004 Bonnie continued to enjoy a life surrounded by her large extended family and friends

Bonnies church service was extensive, especially loving the years she spent in the Palos Verdes Singles Ward and in the Church Hosting program. She also was very active in politics, serving as President of Republican Women organizations in California and Utah.

Bonnie had a natural love for family, friends, and life. She was never shy to express her opinion with a smile, she wanted to know all the details of your life, and she was anxious to see the latest scary movie. Bonnie loved youth, and they loved her. Her boldness was tempered by her charm. Her vim and vigor for life was infectious. Her spirit never weakened as her body struggled for strength. Thanks mom for showing us how to make the most of life.

Bonnie is survived by her children Wendy Braithwaite (Larry), Debra Blackburn (Dennis), Glenn Payne (Valerie), Reeta Ormsby (Daniel), 25 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. She also is survived by her siblings, Sharon Stucki, Suzanne Merrill, and Randall Turner.

The family would like to thank Jamestown Assisted Living Center where she spent her final days, surrounded by caring staff and friends who she loved. The constant care of her brother-in-law and physician Dr. Steven Merrill is also greatly appreciated.

Funeral services will be held Wed, Jan. 30th at 12:00 pm at the Lindon 12th Ward chapel: 325 N. Canal Drive, Lindon.. A viewing will be held Jan. 29th, Tue. eve from 6 to 8 pm at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 E. 800 N., Orem and at the Lindon 12th Ward chapel, 10:45 am to 11:45 prior to the funeral. Interment will be held in the Lindon City Cemetery."
