Graveside Services Set For E. B. Evershed

Elmer B. Evershed, 76, Salt Lake landscape architect died on Monday at 9:15 in a Salt Lake rest home after a lingering illness.

Born July 28, 1884, in Rochester, New York, he was a son of George and Margaret Schlesing Evershed. He married Lenora Tripp on May 20, 1909 in Salt Lake City. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple.

Funeral services will be held in Salt Lake City with graveside servcies set at 4 p.m. at the Manti City Cemetery."

Temple Worker Dies Of Heart Attack

John Carter Reid, 60, died suddenly at his home Thursday of a heart attack. He was in good health an hour before, when he was in twon shopping. Wayne, his son, found his father dead in the bathroom.

Mr. Reid was born at Nephi, October 25, 1885, a son of William Reid and Mary Alice Carter Reid. He came to Manti with the family when he was a small boy and has lived here since. His first employment was with the Sanpete Valley Railroad as a fireman.

He began work at the Manti LDS Temple in 1920 as building engineer and has held that same position to the time of his death.

He married Margaret Tennant, May 23, 1906, in the Manti LDS Temple. She died in 1942. In additiions to his being building engineer at the temple, he has done ordinance work here many years.

He is survived by four sons, Charley Reid, Salt Lake City; Wayne Reid, Manti; Thomas Reid, Provo; and Lt. Howard Reid with educational service office of U.S. Naval hospital in California; one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Lund, Logan; seven grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Pearl Wintch, Salt Lake City; three brothers, Joseph Reid, Riverside, California; Frank Reid, California; and Ronald Reid, Pocatello, Idaho."

Heart Trouble Cause of Death

Margaret T. Reid, 57, wife of John C. Reid died at the family residence Sunday, January 11, 1942, of heart trouble.

She was born October 27, 1884, the daughter of Charlie and Alice Cox Tennant at Manti, Utah. She has resided here all of her life. Until recently she has been very active in Relief Society circles in the North Ward of this city.

She is survived by her husband; four sons, Charlie T., of Salt Lake City; Wayne, of LaVerkin, Utah; D. Thomas of Provo, Utah; and Howard of Long Beach, California; one daughter, Ruth of Manti, Utah; four grandchildren; her mother, Mrs. E. V. Hardy, and step-father, E. V. Hardy, of Salt Lake City, Utah; two brothers, Joe Tennant and Eugene Hardy both of Salt Lake City; two sisters, Mrs. T. J. Anderson, Manti, Utah and Mrs. Frank Lund of Salt Lake City, Utah.

The services included a duet by Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Johnson; prayer, L. Pratt Allred; music, Relief Society; violin solo, R. Easton Moffitt; talk, President E. T. Reid; song, North Ward Relief Society chorus; talks, A. H. Henrie and J. Hatten Carpenter; remarks, Bishop C. G. Braithwaite, song, Relieft Society chorus; prayer, Osmond Olsen.

Interment was in the city cemetery, where the grave was dedicated by Lawrence Lowry."

Funeral Rites Held For Manti Woman

Funeral services for Olive Gee Braithwaite, 54, were held in the Manti South Ward Chapel on Saturday at 2 p.m. with Bishop L. Glen Anderson conducting.

Mrs. Braithwaite died at her home Wednesday at 7:15 a.m. after a long illness. She was born August 31, 1906 in Rexburg, Idaho to Edgar L. and Mary Cunningham Gee. She married Jay Braithwaite on October 15, 1924 in Salt Lake City, the marriage later being solemnized in the Manti Temple.

Mrs. Braithwaite had been an active member of the LDS Church serving in the Ward Relief Society and other auxiliary organizations.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Kenneth, Gunnison; daughter, Mrs. Leon (Shirley) Peterson, Kanarraville, Utah; 3 brothers, Letho, Salt Lake City; Clendon, of Sugar City, Idaho, Elmo, Teton, Idaho; 3 sisters, Mrs. Willis (Novene) Ward of Paradise, California; Mrs. Denny (Ethlyn) Hendrickson, Rupert, Idaho; Mrs. Clader (Arlene) Seely of Manti. Eight grandchildren.

Prelude and postlude music for the services was played by Mrs. Jane Braithwaite with other selections by a vocal trio, Thera Lou Hickman, Betty Peterson, Barbara Barton who sang, "Mother Beloved"; a vocal trio, "Invocation" by Lily Jane Miller and a vocal duet, "The Lord Is My Shepherd" by Thera Lou Hickman and Dorothy Larson. Mrs. Braithwaite accompanied all the numbers.

Prayer at the home was by Glendon Gee (brother) and the prayers at the services were by Ben Stott (cousin) and Joseph L. Loosli (uncle)

Speakers at the services were Mrs. J. Wallace Wintch, Ray P. Lund and Bishop Anderson.

Pallbearers were Steven Braithwaite, Leon Peterson, Ted Carpenter, Marlin Loosli, Denny Hendrickson and Clader Seely.

Burial was in the Manti City Cemetery with the grave being dedicated by J. W. Stott, an uncle, under the direction of Buchanan Mortuary."

Ruth Nielson

1DEATH records, 2009. "Our loving mother and grandmother, Ruth N. Braithwaite, age 92, passed away peacefully December 5, 2002 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born March 28, 1910 in Chester, UT to Rasmus and Mary Elizabeth Nielsen. She married Monroe Nathan Marley at the age of 18 and moved to Salt Lake City. Ruth worked at the Salt Lake Pickle factory after her children were raised and then for the V.A. Hospital in the lab, until she retired in 1975. Following the death of Monroe in 1958, Ruth married Jay Braithwaite in 1963. She enjoyed dancing at the Terrace Ballroom on Tuesdays, as well as camping and fishing. She always caught the biggest fish and had many camping trips to Palisades Lake in Sanpete County. Ruth also had a gift for crocheting and tatting. Her hands were never idle. She was preceded in death by both husbands; son, Lavell Marley; daugh-ter, Geraldine Bednar; granddaughter, Patricia Wood; and great-grand-son, Jeremy Wood. She is survived by one daughter, Joy Cornwell (Melvin); eight grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. We will always remember Grandma in her fishing hat and dark green sunglasses on the shore of Palisades Lake!  A graveside service will be at Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery (2350 E. 1300 S) Dec 9, 2002, 12 noon."
