Attend Funeral For Relative In Wales
A number of Manti folks were in Wales Monday to attend funeral services for Nathaniel (Nate) L. Edmunds, 79, who died at his home Thursday of a heart ailment. He was the father of Gomer Edmunds of Manti.
Mr. Edmunds was well known throughout Sanpete, having served two terms as County Clerk and being Forest Ranger for several years. His assistance to men serving in the Utah Legislature brought him state-wide recognition. He was a graduate of the Brigham Young University.
A member of the LDS Church, Mr. Edmunds served for 13 years as Ward Clerk in Wales.
He was born in Wales, August 8, 1878, a son of John and Julia Edmunds. He married Anina Nielson in the Manti Temple September 13, 1905.
Survivors include his widow; two sons, a daughter, 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, and a sister.
The funeral was held in the Wales Ward Chapel, with burial in the Manti City Cemetery. Glen Edmunds dedicated the grave."

John Hall Pioneer Is Laid At Rest
Funeral services over the remains of John Hall Sr. who died at his home last Sunday were held in the North Ward Chapel last Wednesday at 2 o'clock. Bishop E. T. Reid presided.
The opening prayer was offered by Alma Johnson and the choir sang, "Come, Come Ye Saints". The speakers were President L. R. Anderson, Bishop N. R. Peterson, Bishop E. T. Reid, Captain Glen A. Johnson in behalf of the American Legion and Judge Dilworth Woolley. Ellis E. Johnson sang, "One Solemn Thought", Mrs. Jesse Keller sang "Absent". The closing song by the choir was "Oh My Father". Francis M. Cox offered the benediction. Many beautiful floral offerings were given.
Six grandsons acted as pallbearers.
John Hall was born in Yorkshire, England November 22, 1839, the son of Richard and Ann Bordley Hall. The family came to America and located at St. Louis, Missouri in 1850. The family joined the Mormon Church here and came to Utah locating in Provo in 1852, two years later they came to Manti which has been their home since. John was a lover of horses and a fine teamster, he made three trips to the Missouri River for supplies and emigrants and did also considerable freighting to the mining camps in southern and western Utah and Nevada. He was an active participant in the Black Hawk War. He served as deputy city collector and treasurer for eight years, was deputy county collector for twelve years and deputy assessor for 10 years. He was a stockman and farmer of considerable success. His optimistic and jovial disposition won for him a sunny parth through life.
On December 1, 1866, he married Almira Tuttle in Salt Lake City. Twelve children were born to them, eight of whom survive their father. The living children are: Mrs. A. H. Miller, Mary, John H., Luther F., William T., Wellingrton, L. Fred and Mrs. E. E. Johnson.
those from out of town in attendance at the funeral were Charles Ward, Dick Brearton, William Brearton and Miss Loy Brearton all of Provo.
He leaves forty six grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. His wife preceded him to the grave four years."

Orval Mills Dies, Buried At Sterling
Funeral services were held in the Sterling Ward chapel on Monday for Orval Mills, 62, who died at his home in Sterling on October 24, 1952, following a lingering illness. Mr. Mills had been a farmer and laborer and had been a Sterling residnet for many years.
He was born in Chester, June 24, 1890, a son of George and Avellia Allred Mills.
He married Carolin Funk in the Manti Temple on March 18, 1914.
He is survived by his widow, a son, Lew Mills, Salt Lake City; and four daughters, Jessie Bradley, Sterling; Iva Dorius, Sandy; Theda Denison, Bingham; and Orvilla Braithwaite, Manti.
The funeral services were conducted by Merlin Peterson, bishop's counselor and bural was in the Sterling Cemetery under the direction of the Buchanan Mortuary."

He was born April 27, 1924, in Ephraim, Utah, to Alta Mena Mortensen and Elmer T. Nicholls. He married Elga Braithwaite[0] on July 12, 1946, in Manti, Utah. Erick was employed as a construction worker, plumber, and electrician most of his life. He was a maintenance supervisor for Snow College for over 25 years. In 1978 he was State Employee of the year. In 2003, Erick was named "Citizen of the Year" in Manti for all his contribution to the city. Erick was a survivor of the Battle of the Coral Sea. He was on the U.S. Lexington when it was sunk. He was one of the last men off the ship. He is survived by his wife, Elga, Manti; children, Dale (Charmaine) Nicholls, Ephraim; Suzanne (John) Cox, Manti; and Carol (Andy) Shaw, Ephraim; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sisters, Elaine Reid, Ephraim; Helen (Ed) Wilhoyt, Las Vegas, NV; MaryLee (Mont) Hermansen, Ephraim; sister-in-law, Sena Nicholls, Mayfield; and brother-in-law, Stan (Sharon) Richardson, Payson. He was preceded in death by his son, Glen E. Nicholls; parents; great-granddaughter, Aspen Nicholls; brothers, Clair Nicholls, Morris (Beverly) Nicholls; sister, JoAnn Richardson; and brother-in-law, Newell Reid. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 16, 2008, at 12 Noon, in the Manti LDS Stake Center, 400 South Main, Manti. Manti-Clair Dale Nicholls, 82, passed away on September 25, 2003.
Born to Elmer Thomas and Alta Mena Mortenson Nicholls in Thatcher, Utah. Married Sena Bach Peterson on September 8, 1941.
Most of his early childhood and married life was spent herding sheep on the West Desert of Utah, Manti LaSal and Fish Lake National Forest. He later worked for Cox Construction and the Utah Department of Transportation, from which he retired in May 1981. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years; three sons and one daughter: Thomas (Linda), John (Florence); Sam; Molly (Clay) Hood. One brother and three sisters, Eric, Helen Willhoyt, Elaine Reid, Mary Lee Hermansen. Preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Morris, one sister JoAnn and one grandson.
Graveside services Monday, September 29, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. in the Manti City Cemetery with Military Honors by Manti American Legion Post 31. Burial under the direction of Buchanen Mortuary."
