Manti Messenger 26 November 1898
ANOTHER SAD DEATH.
Tuesday afternoon between the hours of four and five o'clock the angel of death visited the home of one of our esteemed citizens, Mr. Frank Hall, the treasure he was called to lay away in the silent tomb was his beloved young wife, Lillie May, daughter of Wm. K. and Ann C. Barton.
Deceased was born in Manti, April 27, 1871, (twenty-seven years ago.) She has had delicate health all her life, but ever willing to assist her parents and husband in every duty she was required to do.
She was married to Mr. Frank Hall Oct. 14th, 1896 and was the mother of one little girl, Eva, who must certainly be a valuable treasure to him in this trying period. His little daughter has for some time been quite ill, but we are pleased to inform our readers she is rapidly recovering.
This sad death is a most pitiful one to the bereaved husband and families. A young couple soon to be separated, almost before really knowing the true value and responsibilities of parents. They moved into the residence of John Hall, father of the bereaved husband but a few weeks since and had just arranged their new home to enjoy the comforts of life.
Funeral services were held in the Tabernacle Friday afternoon, a large number of sympathizing friends were present, and many vehicles followed the remains to the cemetery. Our deepest sympathy is extended to the grief stricken husband and family.

Daughter of Wm. K. Barton & Ann Cook.

Rex Andrew Petersen

1DEATH records, 2009. "Rex Andrew Petersen
North Ogden
1919  -  2009

Rex Petersen, our beloved husband, daddy, grandpa, and great-papa died peacefully on April 11, 2009 surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born in Preston, Nevada on October 26, 1919 to Andrew Lathrop and Violet Windous Petersen.

In 1940, after graduating from White Pine High School in Ely, Nevada, Dad and four of his buddies joined the United States Coast Guard. He found time to date and dazzle our mom (Maxine Braithwaite) in those 6 ½ years of honorable service to his country. They married in August of 1942 and later went through the Manti Temple and were sealed for time and all eternity. Mom and Dad have been married over 66 years.

Daddy was outnumbered by mom and his four girls; Marion (Don) Koedyker, Carla (Bill) Anderson, Josie Von Cannon and Gayle (Kurt) Gailey. He was also blessed with 8 beautiful grandchildren and 9 exceptional great-grandchildren. All you had to do was ask him. Daddy, we love you so much and will miss you. And don’t worry, we will take great care of mom.

After completing his Coast Guard service, mom and dad moved to Ely, Nevada where dad worked for Kennecott Mining Company as an electrician and later for Ely Light and Power. We all moved to Ogden in 1962 where dad worked for Thiokol and Defense Depot Ogden. He retired in 1983 and he and mom headed south for the winters. Dad helped his son-in-law Don in his construction business in Tucson, AZ during his retirement and could hardly wait to grab mom and head south for yet another winter of working. Dad taught us all to work hard by his example.

Dad liked to putter in the yard. He built a terraced rock wall around his yard and grew the most beautiful flowers and garden. He loved to sit in his yard and admire his great works.

Dad was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a Ward Executive Secretary, Young Men’s President and Assistant Dance Director (with mom) for the National Church-wide MIA program; which brought thousands of young people from all over the United States to Salt Lake City for these special dance occasions. He also served as the announcer for the Wasatch Slope Chariot and Cutter Racing for 10 years.

We spent many great summers camping with mom and dad up in North and South Fork, (except for the time he almost lost his ankle chopping wood with his hatchet.) He taught all the kids how to make a great big, but safe bonfire. They could hardly wait for evening to come.

We would like to thank his second family at Emeritus Estates in North Ogden for their gentle hands and mounds of encouragement during his stay with them. We would also like to thank the Angels of Inspirational Hospice for the gift of hope and comfort they provided our family.

Dad was preceded in death by his parents; his only sister, Orlene and his four brothers, Van, Maun, Martin and Dale.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Myers Evergreen Memorial Park, 100 Monroe Blvd., Ogden on Tuesday, April 14, 2009." UtahTributes.com.

Our mom, Maxine Braithwaite Petersen returned to our Heavenly Father on Sept 26 surrounded by her family and was reunited with our dad, Rex, (deceased 2009), daughter, Josie Von Cannon, (deceased 2011) and her parents, Eva and Clinton Braithwaite (and her best friends Venyle and Rita)

Maxine was born April 29th, 1922 in Manti, Utah. She had 2 sisters: her twin, Maurine, & Elga; 4 brothers: Lynn, Wayne, Carl & Wallace. She married Rex A Petersen on Aug. 9, 1942, in Preston, Nev. Their vows were later solemnized in the Manti LDS temple. They lived in Boston, Mass. then moved to McGill & Ely, Nevada, and moved to Ogden, Utah in 1963.

She left behind 3 daughters: Marion (Don) Koedyker, Tucson AZ, Carla (Bill) Anderson, Ogden Utah, and Gayle (Kurt) Gailey, also of Ogden Utah, 8 grandchildren, Brandon, Darin and Clinton Guthrie, Tara Della Silva Gaedcke, Mikel Jones, Tiffanie Anderson, Brian and David Gailey, and Megan Gailey Burrows, 9 great-grandchildren and extended family. She was very gregarious and fun loving, and taught us 4 girls to be the same.

Mom worked for the Bon Marche, Ogden Water Works and the IRS, where she retired in 1983 and enjoyed one of the biggest & funnest retirement parties they have ever had. She was well known for her practical jokes and was loved by everyone who knew her.

Mom became a member of her beloved Beta Sigma Phi in the 1940's and was still an active member. She also belonged to Cosmopolitan and the Women's Business Association. She had many church callings.
Mom loved dancing, traveling, bowling, golfing & camping. But most of all mom enjoyed life to the fullest.

After dad passed, mom moved to the Harrison Regent. They became her extended family. She loved them all so much, especially her new best friend Norma.
A special thank you to the staff at Pineview Rehab & the 3rd floor nurses at McKay Dee Hospital for taking such good care of our mom.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am at Myer's Mortuary on 845 Washington Blvd Sat, Oct 1, 2011. The family will meet with friends on Friday from 6-8 pm and 9:30 – 10:30 before the service. Interment, Myers Evergreen Memorial Park.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming,"Woo Hoo -- What A Ride!"

Mom, thanks for sharing your ride with all of us. We will love and miss you forever!!."
