OBIT: Gillies Funeral Home Obituaries

Ronald W. Peterson (2 NOV 1923 - 1 NOV 2011)

Our beloved father, Ronald Wilson Peterson, passed away surrounded by his family on Nov. 1, 2011.

He was born Nov. 2, 1923 in Gunnison, Utah to Ben and Rachel Peterson.

He was the third of eight children and is preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Stanley, Burnard and Dale Peterson.

Ronald proudly serving his country in World War II in the army stationed in the South Pacific. Having endured much in battle, he received the Purple Heart honor and has always been proud to be an American.

He married his "one true love", Lois Braithwaite in 1947 and together they had 5 children: Frank Earl Peterson (Jodi) of Logan, Utah; Stephen Ronald Peterson (Kim) of Amerigosa, Nevada; Linda Kotter of Layton, Utah; Cindy Andersen of Sandy, Utah; Christine Poulson of Sandy, Utah. Lois passed away suddenly on Jan. 18, 1988.

Ronald worked at the Defense Depot in Ogden as a refrigeration mechanic and was the ULTIMATE paper boy for the Ogden Standard Examiner for as a rural carrier. He delivered the paper by car to subscribers in Honeyville, Corinne and west Brigham City. He did this for 31 years and nearly had a Guiness World Book record! At times, he had over 400 customers/day.

Ronald was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and at the time of Lois' death, they were serving as workers in the Ogden Temple.

He is survived by his 5 children, 21 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Lucille (Dan) Campbell, Gunnison, Utah; LaNeice (Don) Stott, Manti, Utah; Clyde (Norma) Peterson, Gunnison, Utah; Colleen Bird , California. His children had the honor and privilege of caring for Ronald in the last several years of his life. They consider this one of the most precious gifts he ever gave them. His sense of humor and love for them were so much a part of each day. He was loved by everyone who knew him. The family would like to give special thanks to the care givers at Sunrise Assisted Living in Sandy for being dad's other family. He loved them so much and was always so happy to be there. They enriched his life with their service and love. We are deeply grateful to them.

Ronald's children loved their father and are comforted in knowing that their parents are now together.
