He was born May 4, 1919 in Payson, Utah, a son of George Albert Smith Cheever and Sarah Ellen Braithwaite[0]. He married Marion Edith Clark, March 28, 1946 in the Manti LDS Temple. George was an Army veteran of World War II. He served in the entire campaign in Europe and received the French Croix de Guerre with Bronze Star. He graduated from Utah State and later received a Master's degree from BYU. He was an Industrial Arts teacher in Payson schools for 38 years. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission to the Western States. He was faithful in his callings, serving as counselor in the Bishopric, High Priest group instructor, and Scout Master. He enjoyed gardening and family history research. He collected weather data for the U.S. government.Survivors include his wife, Marion, of Payson; six children: Janet (William) Sparks, Dugway; Julie (L Dee) Stevenson, Payson; Mark, Bothell, Washington; Grant, Salt Lake City; Rose (Rodney) Jackson, Orem; Bruce (Machelle) Cheever, Woodland Hills; a sister, Rose Hillman; two brothers: Byron and Richard Cheever; 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday, January 23, 1997, 11 a.m., in the Payson Park-14th Ward Chapel, 110 South 300 West. Byron Braithwaite[0] Cheever, 80, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2003 of complications incident to
Alzheimer's.
Born May 16, 1922 in Payson, UT to George Albert Smith Cheever, Sr. and Sarah Ellen (Nell) Braithwaite[0] Cheever. Following an LDS Mission in Ontario he married his high school sweetheart, Maureen Christiansen in the Manti LDS Temple February 17, 1944. He then served for two years in the U.S. Navy.
Byron began his banking career at Commercial Bank of Utah in Payson. In 1948 he moved to Heber City as assistant manager. Following First Security's purchase of the bank he became manager in 1956, then vice president and manager of the Spanish Fork office in 1975.
Upon retiring in 1986, Byron and Maureen served a Family History Mission to Chicago, IL. From 1967 to 1984 they published a quarterly magazine plus wrote and published many books on decoy carving.
His many years of service involved Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, UT Pheasant Society and numerous positions in the LDS Church; including Bishop of the Heber Fifth Ward from 1972 - 1975.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, five children: Doug (Rita), of Payson; Kathy, of S. Jordan; Barbara (Jason) Moulton, of Sammamish, WA; David (Susan) of Orem; and Dianne (Gardell) Johnson of Tempe, AZ; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grand children; sister, Rose (Guy) Hillman and a brother, Richard (Eleanor). Preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Ruby Braithwaite[0], and brother George A. (Marion) Cheever, Jr.
The family wishes to express appreciation to the staff and residents of the Payson Beehive Home and Hearthstone Manor for their loving care.
Funeral services will be Monday, March 24 at 1 p.m. in the Payson Mt. View 6th Ward Chapel, 1128 East 100 South (directly behind Mt. View Hospital). Viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Holladay Hills Funeral Home, 66 South 300 East, Santaquin; and from 11:45 to 12:45 Monday at the church prior to the services. Maureen Christiansen Cheever (December 18, 1923 - March 22, 2010)
Maureen Christiansen Cheever, born Dec. 18, 1923 passed away peacefully on Mar. 22, 2010 after a mercifully short bout with lung cancer. Hers was a life devoted to the needs and well being of not only her family but to everyone she knew.
Quilting was a life long passion; along with embroidery, knitting, sewing and other well honed skills. Now and for years to come countless people are still being warmed by her handiwork. She was the epitome of a devoted wife and caring mother. She relished the opportunity for compassionate church service and as a result served many years in the Relief Society. She also served as a Gospel Doctrine Sunday School teacher and also enjoyed years of service in the Primary working with the children.
She was born and grew up in Santaquin, UT attending school there until she moved on to Payson High School.
There she met the love of her life, Byron Cheever, and she waited patiently while he served a two-year mission for the LDS Church in Ontario Canada. Upon his return they were married and sealed for all eternity in the Manti Temple on February 17, 1944. Unfortunately he was soon thereafter drafted because of World War II so she again patiently awaited his return and spent the time at home with her parents. Their first son Douglas was born while his Dad was off to war.
After his return they lived in Payson for a few years where two daughters, Kathy and Barbara were born. Soon after that a job advancement necessitated a move to Heber City where their final son and daughter, David and Dianne, were born. They settled in and spent over twenty-five years there while raising their family. In 1975 another job advancement required a move to Spanish Fork allowing them to be closer to their aging parents.
As the years passed they were called to served a Church History mission in the Chicago IL area. Upon their return a smaller home seemed in order and so they purchased a condo in Payson. It was here that she was preceded in death by her husband Byron Cheever and where she lived until her health no longer permitted it.
As a last stop before moving on to her reward she lived at South Towne Ranch in Sandy where she again made many friends. She would want to thank the staff and residents there for all of their support and kindness. We also express appreciation to the staff of First Choice Home Health and Hospice and to Homewatch Caregivers who provided loving care during her final days. She was greatly loved and admired by all she met and stands as an excellent example for her posterity who remain.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Byron Cheever, by her parents Lee and Pauline Christiansen of Santaquin, her only sister Mina Karen Taylor and by a great granddaughter.
She is survived by her five children Douglas (Brenda) Cheever of Layton, Kathy Cheever of South Jordan, Barbara (Jason) Moulton of Seattle, WA, David (Susan) Cheever of Orem and Dianne (Gardell) Johnson of Tempe AZ. 22 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren also survive her.
Funeral services will be held Monday Mar. 29th at 11:00 am at the Payson Mountain View 6th Ward at 681 East 500 North.
A viewing will be held Sunday, Mar. 28th at the Holladay-Brown Funeral Home, 66 South 300 East, Santaquin from 6 to 8 pm and again on Monday, Mar. 29th at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 am.
Interment will be in the Payson Cemetery next to her husband and granddaughter. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.holladaybrown.com

John Bartholomew Funeral Held
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the South Ward chapel for John Edward Bartholomew, 77, who died at his home shortly after noon Saturday of an extended illness.
The funeral was conducted by Bishop Glen Anderson and music was furnished by the South Ward quartet which sang "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" and "Sundown," by Sam Parry who sang "Lay My Head Beneath a Rose," and Ernest Scow who sang "That Silver Haired Daddy of Mine." Prayers were by A. P. Madsen and John Stutznegger.
The speakers were Bishop Anderson, Alma C. Peterson and Andrew Mickelson who spoke highly of Mr. Bartholomew, of his splendid character, his church activity, and his being a good provider for a good family.
The grave in the Manti City Cemetery was dedicated by Henry Bartholomew, a brother, of Fayette.
John Edward Bartholomew was born at Fayette, November 6, 1869, a son of John and Eliza R. Metcalf Bartholomew. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was the secretary of the Manti South ward high priest quorum for many years.
He married Hannah Braithwiate in 1894. She died in 1915 and on October 10, 1917, he married Anne Marie Malmquist in the Manti LDS Temple.
Survivors include his widow and seven sons and daughters, Mrs. Eva Taylor and Mrs. Mary Etherington, Santaquin; John Eldon and Don Bartholomew and Mrs. Erma Sorenson, Manti; Landon Bartholomew, University City, Missouri and LaVon Pettet Bartholomew, Salt Lake City; ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and seven brothers and sisters, Henry Bartholomew and Mrs. Roxie Christensen, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Julia Erkenback, Wallsburg; Mrs. Mary Stewart, Provo, and Mrs. Rose Peterson, Fillmore."6CEMETERY Records, Lot 10 Blk 16 Plat B Grave 1, Karen 2008. MANTI - 5 AUG 1915, Mrs. Rose Bartholomew, wife of John Bartholomew, died this morning of a complication of diseases.
Mrs. Bartholomew was born in Manti, March 15, 1876. She spent the greater part of her life here. Two years ago, she moved to Gunnison, but returned to Manti about a year ago to care for her mother.
Besides her widower, she leaves a mother, five children, Eva, Elden, Landon, Mary Ellis and Lavon. Santaquin - Services are scheduled Tuesday for Eva Bartholomew Taylor, 79, of Santaquin, who died Friday, December 31, 1976.
She was born May 19, 1897, in Manti, to John Edward and Rose H. Braithwaite Bartholomew. She married Orson Elmer Taylor on Aug. 12, 1916, in Provo. He died May 21, 1970.
Survivors include a son and two daughters, Ernest LeRoy Taylor, Spanish Fork; Mrs. Ervin (Helen) Dodds, Santaquin; Mrs. Wayne (Gladys) Limb, American Fork; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother and three sisters, Donald Glen Bartholomew, Gunnison; Mrs. W.E. (LaVon) Snyder, Salt Lake; Mrs. Erma Rose Sorenson, Manti; Mrs. Mary Etherington, Santaquin.
Tuesday's funeral will begin at 1 p.m. at Santaquin LDS Stake Center. Friends may call at Holladay Hills Funeral Home, Santaquin, Monday between 6 and 8 p.m. and Tuesday between 11:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. Burial will be in Santaquin City Cemetery."
