Notes

Rychard Brough

"Rychard Brough" is listed in the 1557 Will of "John Brough of Leek", dated 7 October 1557, Lichfield Consistory Court, Staffordshire, England, and descrtibed in the RBFO Research Reports of David Bethell of Staffordshire, England (dated 1 May 1978, p.59), which lists his "howse and farme" and his family as follows: "Joanne my wyfe" "her chyldren [youngest under 14]", "my Son Rychard", my Son John", and "my daughter Helen".

"Richard Burgh" is listed in the RBFO Research Reports of David Bethell of Staffordshire, England (dated 1 May 1978, p.52-53), as follows: "Brough wills proved at Lichfield...show that there were several, presumably interrelated, strands of the family in the parish [of Leek, Staffordshire] from at least 1500.  The groups may be summarised as follows: ... Ralph Burgh of Leek, ob 1532/3; children: 1) John living 1532/3, ob 1557; married Joan, living 1557; children: a) Richard living 1557; b) John living 1557; c) Helen living 1557; 2) Richard living 1532/3."

It has been suggested by some members of the Research Committee of the Brough Family Organization (BFO) that Rychard Brough--born about 1540 and of Leek, Staffordshire, may have been the father of Richard Brough--born about 1567 and buried in 1631 in Stowe, Staffordshire. This possibility is based on the known migrations of multiple Brough families of Staffordshire during the 1500's and 1600's, and is supported by the durations, locations and patronymics of the families in question.  Further research into this possibility is being conducted by the BFO as time permits.
