Notes

Robert Broughe

"Robert Broughe" is listed in the Will of his father in law, "Robert Broughe" ("Index of Wills Proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury", FHL British Reference book #: 942, B4b, v.25, 1968, p.64; FHL Film # 92202, Folio 46), which Will was probated in London on 5 October 1598 and states that he is
"Robert Broughe" the "god son" and "son in law" of Robert Broughe.

Jone Broughe

"Jone Broughe" is listed in the Will of her father, "Robert Broughe" ("Index of Wills Proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury", FHL British Reference book #: 942, B4b, v.25, 1968, p.64; FHL Film # 92202, Folio 46), which Will was probated in London on 5 October 1598 and states that she is: "Jone Broughe", the "daughter" of Robert Broughe.

John Broughe

"John Broughe" (b.abt.1511) is listed as the father of "Alice Broughe" (b.abt.1542), in the christening record of Alice's son, Ralph Hollis (chr.1561), as follows: The christening of "Ralph Hollis" is listed in the Chesterfield parish register book (FHL Book #: British, 942.51, H25de, Volume 12, page 49), which states that he was christened on 29 November 1561 in St. Mary and All Saints church in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, as "Ralph [the] son of John Hollis and Alice dau. of John Broughe".

"John Broughe" died prior to 19 October 1584, as follows: The burial of "Alice Broughe"--the wife of John Broughe--is listed in the Chesterfield parish register book (FHL Book #: British, 942.51, H25de, Volume 12, page 110), which states that she was buried on 19 October 1584 at St. Mary and All Saints church in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, and that she was "Widow".

Research Note:  John Broughe (b.abt.1511) of Chesterfield, Derbyshire, was possibly the son of John Burgh (b.abt.1487) of Middlehulme, Leek, Staffordshire.  Family tradition states that the early Burghs/Broughs of northern Staffordshire also held properties in Derbyshire--including Chesterfield.  Further research into this possibility is ongoing.

Research Note: The possible members of this Brough family are listed in this family group record and were linked together based on extensive radius searches, available parish records and recognized family patronymics.
