The christening of "Thomas Brough" is listed in the parish register of Leek, Staffordshire (FHL Book # 942.46, B4pr, v.13, p.26), which states that he was christened on 30 December 1638 as the son of "Robt. Brough of Rochgrange".

Thomas Brough is listed in the christening record of his son, Thomas Brough, as follows: The christening of Thomas Brough is listed in FamilySearch (via FHL Film # 1471148, Item #24), which states that he was christened on 23 February 1687 in Newborough, Staffordshire, and that his father was Thomas Brough.  Also, the christening of Thomas Brough is listed in FamilySearch (via FHL Film # 421577), which states that he was christened on 23 February 1688 in Newborough, Staffordshire, and that his parents were Thomas Brough and Lucy.

Research Note:  Thomas and Lousey Brough possibly had additional children between the period of 1679 and 1687.  However, a careful review of the parish register of Newborough, Staffordshire (FHL Film # 1471148, Item #24, 1601-1699) in April 2011 did not reveal any addition children of Thomas and Lousey Brough (other than Mary and Thomas) who were christened in Newborough between 1670 and 1699.

The burial of "Thomas Brough" is listed in the parish register of St. Nicholas, Mavesyn Ridware, Staffordshire (FHL Book #: 942.46, B4pr, v.104, page 81), which states that he was buried on 7 February 1703/1704.  (Note: Thomas Brough's uncle, Richard Brough (1620-1710), moved from Kingsley (near Leek) to Mavesyn Ridware during the 1600's.)

Lucy is listed in the christening record of her son, Thomas Brough, as follows: The christening of Thomas Brough is listed in FamilySearch (via FHL Film # 1471148, Item #24), which states that he was christened on 23 February 1687 in Newborough, Staffordshire, and that his father was Thomas Brough.  Also, the christening of Thomas Brough is listed in FamilySearch (via FHL Film # 421577), which states that he was christened on 23 February 1688 in Newborough, Staffordshire, and that his parents were Thomas Brough and Lucy.

Research Note:  Thomas and Lousey Brough possibly had additional children between the period of 1679 and 1687.  However, a careful review of the parish register of Newborough, Staffordshire (FHL Film # 1471148, Item #24, 1601-1699) in April 2011 did not reveal any addition children of Thomas and Lousey Brough (other than Mary and Thomas) who were christened in Newborough between 1670 and 1699.

The 1810 marriage of Timothy Brough and Ellen Pemberton is listed in the Bishop Transcript for Astbury, Cheshire (FHL Film # 1655359, Item #6), which states that they were married by Banns on 7 January 1810 in the Astbury Church.

In the 1841 Census, "Timothy Brough" is listed as being 55 years old (born about 1782-1786), born in Cheshire, and residing with his possible wife, Ellen (age 55), and thier four possible children (Timothy--age 25, Elizh--age 20, and Thos--age 15), at: Astbury Lane Ends, Astbury, Cheshire, England.  Also, Timothy Brough is listed as living next door to his son, Timothy Brough, in Astbury, Cheshire.

In the 1851 Census, "Timothy Brough" is listed as being 66 years old (born about 1785), born in Astbury, Cheshire, England, married and working as a "Farm Labourer", and residing with his wife, Ellen (age 65), and their married daughter, Elizabeth (age 29), and Elizabeth's husband Charles (age 31), and their three children (Mary--age 8, Walter--age 4, and James--age 1), at: Moss Row, Congleton, Cheshire, England.  Also, Timothy Brough is listed as living next door to his son, Timothy Brough Jun.", in Congleton, Cheshire.

In the 1861 Census, Timothy Brough is listed as being about 77 years old (born about 1784), born in Congleton, Cheshire, married and working as an "Ag. Lab" while living next door to his son, Timothy Brough, in Congleton, Cheshire.

The 1863 burial of Timothy Brough is listed in the Bishop's Transcript for Astbury, Cheshire (FHL Film # 1655363), which states that he was buried in Astbury on 17 September 1863 and that he was 79 years old when he died and that he was living in Congleton Moss when he died.


Ellen Pemberton

The 1833 christening of "Enoch Shaw" is listed in in FindMyPast, which states that he was christened on 3 March 1833 in Church Broughton, Derbyshire, England, and that his mother was "Dorothy Shaw".

In the 1841 Census, "Enoch Shaw" is listed as being 9 years old (born about 1832), NOT born in Staffordshire, England, working as a Shoemaker Ap[prentice]", and residing with three other men next to the residence of John Shaw (age 35) and Elizabeth (age 35) and their probable eight children, at: Kingston, Staffordshire, England.

In the 1851 Census, "Enoch Shaw" is listed as being 18 years old (born about 1833), born in Church Broughton, Derbyshire, unmarried and working as a "Shoemaker App[rentice]", and residing as a "Visitor" in the home of John Shaw (age 48) and Elizabeth (age 45), and their nine children, at: Carter Street, Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, England.  

The 1861 marriage certificate of "Enoch Shaw" and "Elizabeth Alison" (whose surname should have been recorded as "Hollison") was obtained from the GRO in England by the Brough Family Organization in October 2023, and stated that they were married by Banns on 31 March 1861 at St. Paul's church in Ednesor, Stoke-upon-Trent district, Staffordshire, England; that Enoch Shaw as "28" years old (born about 1833) and a "Bachelor" and "Shoe Maker" of "High Street" and that his father was "Joseph Harrison" a "Labourer"; and that Elizabeth Alison was "20" years old (born about 1841) and a "Spinster" and "Potter" of "High Street" and that her father was "James Alison" a "Minor".  The marriage was witnessed by Samuel Blundret and Elizabeth Blundret.

In the 1861 Census, "Enoch Shaw" is listed as being 28 years old (born about 1833), born in Church Broughton, Derbyshire, married and working as a "Cordwainer" (or Shoemaker), and residing as a "Son in Law" along with his wife, Elizabeth (age 20), and Elizabeth's widowed mother, "Mary Hollins" (age 46), at: 41 Chadwick Place, Longton, Staffordshire, England.

In the 1871 Census, "Enoch Shaw" is listed as being 38 years old (born about 1833), born in Church Broughton, Derbytshire, married and working as a "Shoe Maker", and residing with his wife, Elizabeth (age 31), and their seven children (Margaret--age 9, Elizabeth--age 8, Thomas--age 7, Mary--age 6, Joseph--age 3, George-age 2, Phillip--age 10 months old), and Elizabeth's probable mother, Mary Hollison (age 59), at: 65 Normacott Road, Longton, Staffordshire, England.

In the 1891 Census, "Enoch Shaw" is listed as being 58 years old (born about 1833), born in Broughton, Derbyshire, married and working as a "Shoemaker", and residing with his wife, Elizabeth (age 48), and their three children (Thomas--age 27, Enoch--age 12, and Harry--age 7), at: 13 Victoria Road, Longton, Staffordshire, England.

In the 1901 Census, "Enoch Shaw" is listed as being 68 years old (born about 1833), born in Church Broughton, Derbyshire, married and working as a "Shoemaker", and residing with his wife, Elizabeth (age 58), and their unmarried son, Thomas Shaw (age 37), and his unmarried granddaughter, Charlotte Stant (age 15), at: 7 Victoria Road, Longton, Staffordshire, England.

In the 1911 Census, "Enoch Shaw" is listed as being 79 years old (born about 1832), born in Church Broughton, Derbyshire, a "Widower" and "Retired Bootmaker by Trade", and residing with his married son, Thomas Shaw (age 47), and his wife, Annie (age 40), at: 5 Alexandra Road, Longton, Staffordshire, England.

The 1915 death of "Enoch Shaw" is listed in the online GRO Index and Staffordshire BMD, which combined states that his death was registered in October-December 1915 in Hanley subdistrict, Stoke-upon-Trent district, Staffordshire, England, and that he died when he was "82" years old (born about 1833).
