Obituary for Thomas Brough
Our hearts are aching as we mourn the loss of our father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Tom Brough. He passed away in his home on September 10, 2016. Thomas James Brough was born in Farmington, New Mexico on April 4, 1962; he was the fourth of five children born to Warren Dale Brough and Marilyn Clare Cole.
He was a unique and special person. All who knew him could attest to his jovial spirit and deep love for those in his life. Tom shared his lasting love for God’s grand creations by surrounding himself and his loved ones in nature. It served as an inspiration for his music and photography. The sounds of his testimony echo in our hearts and minds as we reflect upon his musical expressions to his God and King.
Tom’s lifelong love for the piano began at the age of eight. The piano became his friend—a release when times were difficult and an instrument of joy when times were good. He was able to use his musical talents in high school by composing the senior prom theme and the class song. Tom was very active in scouting as a young man and earned his Eagle Scout Award. After high school, Tom served an honorable LDS mission to Rochester, New York. Upon returning, he met his beautiful bride, Susanne Barton, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 30, 1983. In December of 1985, Tom graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems from Weber State University. After graduation, Tom accepted a position as a Software Engineer with Electronic Data Systems in Framingham, Massachusetts. The following year, Tom and Sue were blessed with twin daughters, Heather and Rebecca, on July 16, 1986. In December, Tom moved his family back to Utah and he soon gained employment with Novell as a Software Engineer. Tom continued his professional life in the computer and software industry for the next 30 years in various positions. During these years, Tom’s family grew by adding two more daughters, Julianne in 1992 and Rachel in 1995, and two more sons, Jonathan in 2004 and Ryan in 2005. In 2012, Tom began working as a Senior Engineering Manager for Adobe, where he worked until his passing.
Tom balanced his work life by passionately pursuing his various hobbies. His talents and interests included composing and recording music, camping, hiking, bike riding, and photography. After 30 years, the marriage ended and Tom began a new chapter in his life. He met a new love, Kelley Figg, and was later engaged to be married. During this time, he continued to be a devoted father and grandfather and went on many fun adventures with his children.
A dear friend described Tom perfectly, “he was an amazing human who combined brilliance with wit, kindness with genuine curiosity, and a love for nature with a love for God. Light and love emanated through his kind eyes and his music flowed, like the song of a mountain spring, from the deepest channels of his huge, giving heart.”
Tom will be greatly missed but we know through God’s love and grace, we will be together again.
Tom is survived by his six children, Heather (Nick) Shelley, Rebecca (Jon) Tehero, Julianne Brough, Rachel Brough, Jonathan Brough, Ryan Brough, and four grandchildren, Clare and Cole Shelley, and Braden and Katelyn Tehero. He is also survived by his former wife, Susanne Barton Brough, his brother Dale (LouAnn) Brough, his sisters, Bonnie (Darryl) Lee, Kathleen Phelps, and Laura (Joseph) Noorda.
A viewing will be held in his honor at Nelson Family Mortuary at 4780 N. University Ave., Provo, Utah, on Friday, September 16 from 6:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 17 from 10:00 a.m.–10:45 a.m., with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Thomas James Brough will be laid to rest in the Bountiful City Cemetery next to his parents.Note: A family relative has stated that "Tom discovered that he had a brain tumor [in 2016] and sadly took his life a few weeks before he was scheduled for brain surgery."

Beverly Brough Campbell, 1931 ~ 2017
Our beloved mother, grandmother and friend passed away on February 16th 2017. Born May 15, 1931, the daughter of Thomas James and Julia Slagowski Brough, Beverly was the youngest of 10 children. Her childhood was spent in Lyman, Wyoming; her young adulthood in Salt Lake City.
Beverly married Arwell Pierce Campbell on January 22, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple. Preceded in death by her beloved husband and daughter Heather Ann, Beverly is survived by her two sons, Thomas Arwell (Shauri) of Houston, Texas and Marc Bradley Sr. residing in Nephi, Utah; six beloved grandchildren, Thomas Justin (Danielle), Robert Pierce (Kristen), Marc Bradley Jr., Matthew Craig (Aracely), Michael Alexander and Heather Caitlin; great-grandchildren Wells, Harvey, Mila, Bronson and Pierce; a sister, Ursel Roundy and many nieces and nephews whom she adores.
Beverly and Pierce had a great enthusiasm for life and were true partners in all their endeavors. A l967 business move took them to the Washington, D.C. area, where they lived for the next 30 years. There, Pierce was involved in acquisitions/investments and Beverly began a distinguished career as a force behind many national and international, public and private, educational and philanthropic projects.
Her greatest joy, second only to Pierce, her children and home, were the twelve years she served as Director of the International Affairs office of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in D.C. and New York. During those years, she initiated and maintained warm working relationships with Congress, ambassadors, and world leaders in the nation's capital, at the U.N. and in capitals throughout Europe, Asia and Africa, where she traveled often.
Prior, she served eight years as Director of the Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. Foundation, playing a defining role in the creation of the Special Olympics program and helping establish centers for bio-ethical studies at major universities. In the mid-50's, she and Pierce established Cambro, a marketing firm, Classique, a chain of finishing schools, the national Wendy Ward project and the Honors Cotillion programs.
Beverly attended Brigham Young University and has since served on many of its boards including the President's Advisory Board. She was a recipient of the prestigious BYU Presidential Medallion which in part recognized her work with organizations serving needs as diverse as child survival, breast cancer, drunk driving prevention, media and interfaith cooperation. She authored bestselling books, among them Eve and the Choice Made in Eden. A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ, she served in numerous ward, stake and regional callings, including spokesperson on women's issues during the Equal Rights Amendment years.
She, along with Pierce, Tom and Marc established a foundation in her daughter Heather's name, which drilled wells, built dams and schools, provided text books and scholarships in Africa. They loved to travel; anything to do with oceans, opera, new sights, old friends, or their Church. They will be happy to be together again.
Viewing will be Wednesday, February 22nd from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple. Funeral services are Thursday, February 23rd at Ensign LDS Stake Center, 135 A St, Salt Lake City, at 1:00 with viewing from 11:30 to 12:30. Interment will be in the Brough family section of the Bountiful Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers it is requested that donations be made to the LDS Philanthropic Organization at ldsp.org. Condolences may be shared at the Campbell Family Facebook page which can be reached at www.facebook.com/brough2017.
