The 1798 marriage of "George Brough" and "Dorothy Keates" is listed in the parish register of Cheadle, Staffordshire, England (FHL Film # 417183, # 242), which states that they were married by "Banns" on 19 February 1798 in Cheadle; that George Brough was a "Bachelor of this Parish" and a "Shoemaker"; and that Dorothy Keates was "of this Parish" and a "Spinster".  The marriage was witnessed by "John Keates" and "Ann Keates".

The burial of "George Brough" is listed in the parish register of Cheadle, Staffordshire, England (FHL Film # 417183), which states that he was buried on 29 July 1803 in Cheadle, and that he died when he was "27" years old (born about 1776).


Dorothy Keates

The 1905 marriage of "Richard Clarkson" and "Betsy Brough" is listed in the parish register of St. Matthew, Bolton, Lancashire (FHL Film # 2113030, Item #2), which states that they were married by Banns on 1 July 1905 in St. Matthew, Bolton; that Richard Clarkson was "26" years old (born about 1879), a "Bachelor" and "Labourer" of "44 Hardy Street", and that his father was "John Clarkson (deceased)"; and that Betsy Brough was "30" years old (born about 1875), a "Spinster" and "Crofter" of "40 Hardy Street", and that her father was "Francis Brough, Labourer".  The marriage was witnessed by Ralph Clarkson and Ellen Clarkson.

In the 1911 Census, "Richard Clarkson" is listed as being 32 years old (born about 1879), born in Bolton, Lancashire, working as a "Painter's Labourer" and "Railway boy", married for 5 years, the father of 2 children--both living, and residing with his wife, Betsy (age 36), and their two sons (John--age 3, and Stanley--age 1), at: 66 Oxford Grove, Bolton, Lancashire.


Betsy Brough

In the 1881 Census, "Betsy Brough" is listed as being 6 years old (born about 1875), born in Bolton, Lancashire, and residing with her parents, Francis Brough (age 39) and Mary (age 37) and six siblings, in Halliwell, Lancashire.

In the 1891 Census, "Betsy Brough" is listed as being 17 years old (born about 1874), born in Bolton, Lancashire, working as a "Hooker in Cotton", and residing with her parents, Frank Brough (age 48) and Mary (age 46), and six siblings, in Halliwell, Lancashire.

In the 1901 Census, "Betsy Brough" is listed as being 26 years old (born about 1875), born in Bolton, Lancashire, single and working as a "Cotton Cloth Bleacher", and residing with her parents, William Brough (age 60)--who should have been listed as Francis or Frank Brough, and Mary (age 58), and four siblings, in Bolton, Lancashire. Note: The 1901 Census information on the family of Francis and Mary Brough contains a number of obvious mistakes.
