The christening of "Anne Brough" is listed in the parish register of Trentham, Staffordshire, England (FHL Film 1526191, Item #19), which states that she was christened on 9 February 1817 in Trentham, Staffordshire, and that her parents were "John and Anne Brough" of "Ash Green" and that John Brough was a "Carpenter".

The burial of "Anne Brough" is listed in the parish register of Trentham, Staffordshire, England (FHL Film # 1526192, Item #5), which states that she was buried on 23 February 1843 in Trentham, that she was of "Hem Heath", and that died when she was "26" years old (born about 1817).


Jane Brough

The 1843 death certificate of "Jane Brough" was obtained from the GRO in England by the Brough Family Organization in June 2024, and stated that she died of "Debility" on 7 March 1843 at Hanford, Trentham, Staffordshire, England, when she was "2 months" old (born about January 1843) and that she was the "Daughter of Ann Brough [a] Servant descending" and that the informant of her death was "Ann Brough in attendance [and of] Hem Heath".  (Geographical Note: Hanford is an area in Stoke-on-Trent and is located about one mile north of Trentham.)

The 1843 burial of "Jane Brough" is listed in FamilySearch (FHL Film # 1526192, Item #5), which states that she was buried on 8 March 1843 in Trentham, Staffordshire, England, and that she died when she was still an "Infant" (or under the age of one year old) and that she was of "Hem Heath".


Anne Broughe

The christening of "Anne Broughe" is listed in the Chesterfield parish register book (FHL Book #: British, 942.51, H25de, Volume 12, page 180), which states that she was christened on 22 September 1599 in St. Mary and All Saints church in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, as the daughter of "Ralph Broughe".

"Anne Brough" is listed in the Will and Inventory of her father, "Ralph Brough", which is listed in "Chesterfield Wills and Inventories, 1604-1650" (FHL Book #: British, 942.51, H25de, v.28, pages 183-185), and which states the following: "Ralph Brough of Chesterfield, yeoman. Will dated 24 January 1620, proved 14 February 1620. To be buried in the church of Chesterfield.  All his lands to his wife Joan so long as she does not remarry; if she does, then to his brother Renard Brough on the condition that he uses the profits to bring up his [Ralph's] children Anne, Elizabeth, Margaret and Jarvis until the age of 21.  At the death of his wife his son Jarvis is to have all his lands in Chesterfield and Tapton.  All his goods and chattels to his wife Joan and daughters Anne, Elizabeth and Margaret. 2s to his daughter Alice Ingman.  His wife Joan and brother Renard are his executors. Inventory taken by Godfrey Heathcote, Thomas Slighe, John Fowller and John Tupman, 1619."  Sum total (or total value) of Inventory: £147, 17s, 8d.

The marriage of "Francis Mower" and "Ann Brough" is listed in the Chesterfield parish register book (FHL Book #: British, 942.51, H25de, Volume 15, page 342), which states that they were married on 11 October 1626 in St. Mary and All Saints church in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.


Thomas Ingman

Thomas Ingman and his family is listed in the 1627 Will of "Reignould Broughe" which is listed in "Chesterfield Wills and Inventories, 1604-1650" (FHL Book #: British, 942.51, H25de, v.28, pages 267-268), and which states the following: "Reignould Broughe of Chesterfield, carpenter. Will proved 2 November 1627. To be buried in Chesterfield church.  £10 each to Zachary and Alice, children of Thomas Ingman, to be used at the end of five years 'to their best use and profit'.  A bond of £40, for the payment of £20, to Francis Mower, and £20 more after seven years. 20s to each sister's child living. £10 to his sister Alice Knowles. 3s 4d for a funeral sermon. 20s to the poor of Chesterfield. All his lands and the lease of other lands for 1,000 years from Anthony Eyre to his sister Joan Broughe for her life, if she remains unmarried; then to Gervase Broughe and his heirs; in default to the heirs of Alice wife of Thomas Ingman and the heirs of Anne wife of Francis Mower.  The residue to Gervase Broughe who is his executor. No inventory."

The christening of "Alice Broughe" is listed in the Chesterfield parish register book (FHL Book #: British, 942.51, H25de, Volume 12, page 169), which states that she was christened on 25 June 1597 in St. Mary and All Saints church in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, as the daughter of "Ralph Broughe".

"Alice (Brough) Ingman" is listed in the Will and Inventory of her father, "Ralph Brough", which is listed in "Chesterfield Wills and Inventories, 1604-1650" (FHL Book #: British, 942.51, H25de, v.28, pages 183-185), and which states the following: "Ralph Brough of Chesterfield, yeoman. Will dated 24 January 1620, proved 14 February 1620. "John Broughe" (b.abt.1537) is listed as "John Broughe of Chesterfeild" and the father of three of his children (Elizabeth Broughe, chr.1564; Ralph Broughe, ch.1567; and Reynold Broughe, chr.1569) in their christening records (FHL Book: British, 942.51, H25de, Volume 12, pages 24, 33 and 42).

The burial of "John Broughe" is listed in the Chesterfield parish register book (FHL Book #: British, 942.51, H25de, Volume 12, page 53), which states that he was buried on 9 September 1572 at St. Mary and All Saints church in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, and that he was "of Chesterfeild" and a "Maltman".

"John Broughe" (b.abt.1511) is listed as the father of "Alice Broughe" (b.abt.1542), in the christening record of Alice's son, Ralph Hollis (chr.1561), as follows: The christening of "Ralph Hollis" is listed in the Chesterfield parish register book (FHL Book #: British, 942.51, H25de, Volume 12, page 49), which states that he was christened on 29 November 1561 in St. Mary and All Saints church in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, as "Ralph [the] son of John Hollis and Alice dau. of John Broughe".

"John Broughe" died prior to 19 October 1584, as follows: The burial of "Alice Broughe"--the wife of John Broughe--is listed in the Chesterfield parish register book (FHL Book #: British, 942.51, H25de, Volume 12, page 110), which states that she was buried on 19 October 1584 at St. Mary and All Saints church in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, and that she was "Widow".

Research Note:  John Broughe (b.abt.1511) of Chesterfield, Derbyshire, was possibly the son of John Burgh (b.abt.1487) of Middlehulme, Leek, Staffordshire.  Family tradition states that the early Burghs/Broughs of northern Staffordshire also held properties in Derbyshire--including Chesterfield.  Further research into this possibility is ongoing.

Emott Broughe

The burial of "Emott Broughe" is listed in the Chesterfield parish register book (FHL Book #: British, 942.51, H25de, Volume 12, page 138), which states that he was buried on 19 March 1580 at St. Mary and All Saints church in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

"William Broughe" (b.abt.1554) is listed as the father of two of his children (Grace Broughe, chr.1586;  and Elizabeth Broughe, chr.1590) in their christening records (FHL Book: British, 942.51, H25de, Volume 12, pages 115 and 138).

In April 1604, "William Brough of Walton" is listed as a Church Warden for St. Mary and All Saints church in the Chesterfield parish register book (FHL Book #: British, 942.51, H25de, Volume 15, page 210) of Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

The burial of "William Broughe" is listed in the Chesterfield parish register book (FHL Book #: British, 942.51, H25de, Volume 15, page 268), which states that he was "of Walton" and was buried on 21 April 1614 "at Brampton--which was next to and eventually became part of the town of Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

The Will and Inventory of "William Brough" is listed in "Chesterfield Wills and Inventories, 1604-1650" (FHL Book #: British, 942.51, H25de, v.28, pages 115-116), which Will states the following: "William Brough of Walton, husbandman. Will dated 11 April 1614, proved 2 August 1614. "William Browghe alias Davison" is listed in the christening of his record son, Thomas Browghe, as follows: The christening of "Thomas Browghe" is listed in the Chesterfield parish register book (FHL Book #: British, 942.51, H25de, Volume 12, page 98), which states that he was christened on 7 February 1583 in St. Mary and All Saints church in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, as the son of "William Browghe alias Davison".

"William Brough" is listed in the christening of his son, Godfrey Broughe, as follows: "Godfrey Brough" is listed in the Chesterfield parish register book (FHL Book #: British, 942.51, H25de, Volume 12, page 169), which states that he was christened on 20 May 1950 in St. Mary and All Saints church in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, as the son of "William Brough".  Interestingly, "Godfrey Broughe" was also known as "Godfrey Devison", as follows: The Chesterfield parish register book (FHL Book #: British, 942.51, H25de, Volume 15, page 353) states that a "[Blank] dau. of Godfrey Devison alias Brough" was buried on 27 February 1626 at St. Mary and All Saints church in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.
