George Bott

George Bott, and his wife, Sarah, are listed in the christening of their son, Benjamin Bott, as follows:  Benjamin Bott is listed in FamilySearch (via FHL Film #: 873646), which states that he was christened on 11 May 1760 in Stoke-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, and that his parents were George Bott and Sarah.

Research Note:  George Bott's christening record has yet to be found.  This may be due to the possibility that his parents, Benjamin Bott and Margaret Jackson, were apparently "on-the-move" sometime between 1727 and 1733, as they were residing in Stone, Staffordshire in 1726, and later in Lane End (Longton), Staffordshire, in 1734.

Relationship Note: The shown relationships between Benjamin Bott (chr.1760), his father George Bott (b.1728-1732) his grandfather Benjamin Bott (chr.1696) and great-grandfather George Bott (chr.1664), is based on extensive radius searches and known family migrations and patronymics.

"John Brough" is listed in "The Diglake Colliery Disaster" booklet (mentioned to the BFO by Philip Brough in August 2014) as having been one of the men who were killed in the Diglake pit coal mine disaster of 14 January 1895.  His entry in the booklet reads: "John Brough, age 30, Collier, Working on the East 7 Ft Seam, Living at Ravens Lane."
Note: The Diglake underground coal mine disaster happened when "water from an old pit, augmented from inclement weather, spewed into the lower regions of the mine, carrying and drowning everything in its path."  Most of the bodies of the men and boys who drowned in the disaster were never recovered. John Brough was a chorister and Sunday school teacher at the Weslayan Chapel Audley. He was also a member of the local Ancient Order of Foresters, as were 29 of the other men who died and 7 of the boys. John worked hard to support the Foresters and through his musical abilities he attracted great gatherings at the various public meetings connected with the local Foresters. The Order sent £3 3s to his widow upon hearing of his death.

"J.
