"Thomas Burgh" was born about 1735:  His christening record states that he was christened on 1 January 1735/1736 in Rushton Spencer, Staffordshire, England, and that he was the son of "Mary Burgh alias Mellor".  His burial record states that he was buried on 1 December 1819 at the age of "84" years old (born about 1735).

The christening of "Thomas Burgh" is listed in FamilySearch (FHL Film # 101022149 and FHL Book # 942.46, B4pr, V.120, page 59), which states that he was christened on 1 January 1735/1736 in St. Lawrence church in Rushton Spencer, Staffordshire, England, and that he was: "Thomas [the] s[on of] Mary Burgh alias Mellor".

The 1765 marriage of "Thomas Brough" and "Elizabeth Walter of Seighford" is listed in the parish records of Gnosall, Staffordshire, England (FHL Book # 942.46, B4pr, V.12, page 200), which states that they were married on 27 May 1765 in Gnosall, Staffordshire.

The burial of "Thomas Brough" is listed in the parish register of Gnosall, Staffordshire, England (FHL Film # 1470995, Item #8), and in FindMyPast, which states that he was buried on 1 December 1819 in Gnosall, Staffordshire, that he was of "Allamar [Allimore] Green", and that he died when he was "84" years old (born about 1735).

Research Notes:  In the past it had been assumed that Thomas Brough who died in 1819 in Gnosall, Staffordshire, at the age of 84 years old (born about 1735), might also have been the same Thomas Brough who was christened in 1742 in Biddulph, Staffordshire.  However in 2020 members of the Research Committee of the Brough Family Organization (www.broughfamily.org) determined that the Thomas Brough who was born about 1735 was more likely to have been the Thomas Brough who was christened in 1735 in Rushton Spencer, Staffordshire, and who was the son of "Mary Burgh alias Mellor".  This Mary Burgh--also known as Mary Brough--was christened in 1714 in Rushton Spencer and her father was "Ralph Burke" or "Ralph Brough".  Interestingly, the Thomas Brough who was born about 1735 and resided in Gnosall, Staffordshire, also named his second son Ralph Brough.

The burial of "Elizabeth Brough" is listed in the parish records of Gnosall, Staffordshire, England (FHL Film # 1470995, Item #8), which states that she was buried on 13 June 1814 in Gnosall, that she was of "Audmore", and that she died when she was "78" years old (born about 1736).

Research Note: The 1765 marriage record of Thomas Brough and Elizabeth Walter states that Elizabeth was from the parish of "Seighford," Staffordshire, England.  However, the only listing for an Elizabeth Walter in Seighford for the period 1730 to 1744 was for an "Elizabeth [who was the] bastard daughter of Mary Walter [and who was] buried" on November 7, 1739.  (FHL Film # 1040874.)  Another Elizabeth Walter was buried at Haughton, near Seighford, on May 3, 1735 (FHL Film # 1040842).  However, an Elizabeth Walter was christened on 26 May 1735 in Gnosall--which is only a short distance from Seighford (5.6 miles) and Haughton (2.8 miles), and a number of "Walter" and "Brough" families resided in Gnosall during the 1700's.  BFO researchers presently feel that the Elizabeth Walter christened in Gnosall on 26 May 1735, is the same Elizabeth Walter who married Thomas Brough on 27 May 1765 in Gnosall, Staffordshire, England.
