In the 1900 Census, Alexander Brough is listed as being 67 years old, born in August 1832 in Scotland, married for 42 years (married in about 1858), immigrated to the U.S. in 1872 and lived in the U.S. for 28 years, and residing with his wife, Jane A., and their daughter, Louise, in Providence, Rhode Island.

Alexander Brough was issued a U.S. Passport on 9 July 1923, which stated the following: That he was born on 25 January 1863 in Glasgow, Scotland; that his father--who was deceased--was also named Alexander Brough; that he "emigrated to the United States, sailing from Glasgow, Scotland, about April 1872"; that he had resided in the U.S. for 51 years--from 1872 to 1923--spending 15 years in Providence, Rhode Island, and 36 years in New York City; and that his current occupation in New York City was that of City Magistrate.
