The marriage of "Thos [Thomas] Brough" and "Elizabeth Emery" is listed in the parish register of St. Giles, Newcastle under Lyme, Staffordshire (FHL Film # 1040775, Item #4), which states that they were married by Banns on 29 January 1797; that Thos Brough was of the parish of Stoke; that Elizabeth Emery was of the parish of Stoke and a Spinster; that they were married by John Fenton, Curate of Wolstanton; and that the marriage was witnessed by Francis Hartle, (?) Marks, and Wm. Hill.

John Evans

The christening of "John Evans" is listed in the IGI (via the LDS Extraction Program, FHL Film # 1471087, Item #2, page 191), which states that he was christened on 9 August 1846 at St. John, Longton, Staffordshire, and that his parents were Robert and Emma Evans of Lane End, and that Robert Evans was a "Miner".

In October 2013, the BFO obtained a copy of the death certificate of John Evans from England, which stated that he died of "Sclerosis of Spinal Cord [and] Phthisis" on 20 October 1883 at the age of "37 years" old (born about 1846) at 25 Ronald Street, Florence, Trentham, Staffordshire; that he was a "Collier"; and that the informant of his death was "H. Carnall, Father-in-law, in attendance, [of] 41 Belgrove Road, Florence, Trentham".

In the 1871 Census, John Evans is listed as being 24 years old (born about 1847), born in Longton, Staffordshire, married and working as a "Coal Miner", and residing with his wife, Marindo, and their son, William H. Evans (age 2), in the home of his widowed mother, Emma Evans, at: 88 Upper Hill Street, Longton, Staffordshire.

The birth information on "William Evans" comes from his birth certificate, which was provided to the BFO in August 2013 by Val Kidd (valdkidd@aol.com), and which certificate stated that William Evans was born on 20 September 1840 in Lane End, Staffordshire, England, that he was the son of Robert Evans, a Collier, and "Emma Evans formerly Ledbetter", and that the informant of his birth was "Robert Evans, Father, High Street, Lane End".

The christening of "William Lampeter Evans" is listed in the IGI (via the LDS Extraction Program, FHL Film # 1471087, Item #2, page 31), which states that he was christened on 18 October 1840 at St. John's, Longton, Staffordshire, and that his parents were Robert and Emma Evans of Lane End, and that Robert Evans was a "Miner".

In the 1871 Census, William Evans is listed as being 30 years old (born about 1841), born in Longton, Staffordshire, married and working as a "Engine Minder", and residing with his wife, Ann, and their two children, at: Newchapel, Thursfield, Staffordshire, England.  Note:  Ann's parents, David and "Sharlott" Allen were residing next to Ann and William Evans.

In the 1881 Census, William Evans is listed as being 41 years old (born about 1840), born in Longton, Staffordshire, married and working as a "Engine Man at [a] Coal Mine", and residing with his wife, Ann (and her parents), and their three children, at: Adderley Green, Caverswall, Staffordshire.

In the 1871 Census, Ann (Evans) is listed as being 27 years old (born about 1844), born in Minery Heath, Staffordshire, married and residing with her husband, William Evans, and their two children, at: Newchapel, Thursfield, Staffordshire, England.  Note:  Ann's parents, David and "Sharlott" Allen were residing next to Ann and William Evans.

In the 1881 Census, Ann (Evans) is listed as being 37 years old (born about 1844), born in Morrilow Heath, Staffordshire, married and residing with her husband, William Evans, and her parents (David and Charlotte Allen) and her three children, at: Adderley Green, Caverswall, Staffordshire.

"Can Warrilow" is listed in the marriage record of his son, Robert Evans, as follows: In June 2007, the RBFO obtained a copy of the marriage certificate for Robert Evans and Emma Allmarack from England, which stated that they were married by Banns on 25 February 1839 in St. Peters, Stoke-upon-Trent, Staffordshire; that Robert Evans was "of full age" and a Bachelor and Miner of Lane End, and that his father was Can Warrilow, a Miner; and that Emma Allmarack was a "Minor" and Spinster of Lane End, and that her father was William Ledbeater, a Joiner.  The marriage was witnessed by Thomas Husst and Thomas Lake.

In a letter (and data) dated 31 October 1989, Alice Unwin wrote and informed the RBFO that she was a great-granddaughter of Marian Brough and Robert Evans.  At that time, Alice Unwin's address was: 41 Corporation Street, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, ST4 4AU, England.

According to a neighbor who personally spoke to R. Clayton Brough in August 2002:  Alice Unwin died in the mid 1990's.  She had one daughter, Margaret, and one son, David.  Alice's husband was a Methodist Minister and died prior to her death.
