Orrall Bentley

The christening of Orrall Bentley is listed in the parish register of St. Lawrence, Biddulph (FHL Film # 1278828, Item #10), which states that Orrall was christened on 3 January 1886 as the child of George and Esther Bentley of The Square, and that George was a Collier.

The following information appears in the St. Lawrence, Biddulph, Monumental Inscriptions (Volume 2, page 27): "In loving memory of Evelyn beloved daughter of Orrall and Hannah Bentley. Jesus called a little child.

The 1875 birth certificate of "Richard Henry Brough" was obtained from the GRO in England in June 2011 by the Brough Family Organization, and stated that Richard Henry Brough was born on 22 January 1875 at 59 Meir View, Longton, Staffordshire, England, and that his mother was "Louisa Brough" a "Potter's Scourer".  (No father was listed.)

The 1875 christening of Richard Henry Brough is listed in the parish register of St. James, Longton (FHL Film # 1471085, Item #17), which states that he was christened on 1 August 1875 as the son of Louisa Brough of Bagnal Street, a "Scourer".  (No father was listed.)

In the 1881 Census, "Henry Mollant" is listed as being 6 years old (born about 1875), born in Longton, Staffordshire, and residing with his parents, Henry and Louisa Mollant, and one younger sibling, at: 19 Gate Street, Longton, Staffordshire.

In 1891, "R. H. Brough" immigrated to the United States. According to the "Passenger List" for the ship "Sarnia" (via Ancestry.com), R. H. Brough was 16 years old when he sailed aboard the ship, Sarnia, from Liverpool, England, to Halifax, Nova Scotia and Portland, Maine, on 29 March 1891 (so he was born in about 1875).

In the 1891 Canadian Census (taken on April 18, 1891), "Richard Brough" is listed as being about 16 years old (born about 1875), born in England, single, his religion being the Church of England, and residing with many other young single individuals whose religion was of the Church of England, in Belleville City, Hastings West, Ontario, Canada.  Also, both of Richard's parents--as well as those of the other single individuals mentioned previously--are listed as being been born in England.  In addition, In the 1891 Canadian Census (taken on April 21, 1891), "Richard Brough" is listed as being about 16 years old (born about 1875), born in England, single, a Presbyterian, and residing as a Domestic in the household of William and Harriet Massey of Sydney, Hastings West, Ontario, Canada. (Note: Today, the geographical travel distance between Belleville and "Hastings near West Street" is only about 6 km.)

In the 1901 Canadian Census (taken on April 13-17, 1901), "Richard Brough" is listed as being born in England on 22 January 1875 and about 26 years old, immigrated to Canada in 1897 (which should have been listed as 1891 by the census taker), married, a Methodist, and working as a Farm Laborer while residing as a Domestic in the household of Martha Bailey in Winchester, Dundas, Ontario, Canada.

The 1901 marriage of "Richard Henry Brough" and "Lillie Harper" is listed in the "Schedule B" of "Smiths Falls, Lanark County", Ontarior, Canada (via Ancestry.com), which states that both individuals were of the Methodist faith and were from Smiths Falls and that they were married on 25 November 1901 in Smiths Falls, Lanark, and that Richard was a Bachelor and a Laborer and was born in England and that his parents were Henry and Louisa Cartlidge, and that Lillie was a Spinster and was born in Dundas Co., and that her parents were James Harper and Julia.

In the 1910 Census (taken on April 23-25, 1910), "Richard H. Brough" is listed as being about 35 years old (born about 1875), born in England, immigrated to the United States in 1909, married for 8 years (married in about 1902) and working as a Benterman in a Paper Mill, and residing with his wife, Lillie M., and one son, in: Norfolk, St. Lawrence, New York.  Also, Richard's father was born in England, and his mother was born in England.

In the 1920 Census (taken on January 12, 1920), "Richard H. In the 1920 U.S. Census, "John T. Brough" is listed as being 26 years old (born about 1894), born in Pennsylvania, married and working as an "Engineer" in the "Locomotives" industry, and residing with his wife, Alice M. (age 22), at: 439 Mercer Street, Butler Ward 5, Butler City, Butler County, Pennsylvania.

In the 1940 Census, "John T. The christening of Pell Brough is listed in the parish register of St. Botolph's, Boston (FHL Film # 1542030), which states that he was christened on 27 March 1797 as the son of John and Ann Brough.

In the 1841 Census, Pell Brough is listed as being about 40 years old (born about 1801), born in Lincolnshire, working as a "Soliciter", and residing in Boston, Lincolnshire. (Not: Pell Brough's wife is not listed alongside him in the 1841 Census.)

In the 1851 Census, Pell Brough is listed as being 52 years old (born about 1799), born in Boston, Lincolnshire, working as an "Attorney at Law", married and residing in Boston, Lincolnshire.  (Note:  Pell Brough's wife is not listed with him the 1851 Census.)

In the 1861 Census, Pell Brough is listed as being about 62 years old (born about 1799), born in Boston, Lincolnshire, a "Widower" and "Fomerly [an] Attorney", and residing as a "Boarder" in Boston, Lincolnshire.

In the 1851 Census, Jane (Brough) is listed as being about 36(?) years old (born about 1815?), born in Boston, Lincolnshire, married and working as a "Housekeeper and Cook" while being a "Servant" in a Rectory in Skirbeck, Boston, Lincolnshire.


Marriage Notes for Pell Brough and Jane Rainky-16254

In March 2010, the RBFO obtained a copy of the marriage certificate of Pell Brough and Jane Rainey from England, which stated that they were married by Licence on 8 March 1838 at St. Mary's, Sculcoates, Yorkshire, and that Pell Brough was of full age and a Widower and Solicitor of Storey Street; and that Jane Rainey was of full age and a Spinster of the parish of Skirbeck.  No father's names were listed for the couple.  The marriage was witnessed by F. B. Rainey and Harriot Ann Brough.

Note:"An Index to the Archbishop of Yorks Marriage Bonds and Allegations (FHL Book # 942.74, K22n, 1830-1839) states that on a "Bond Date" of 6 March 1838 in the parish church of Sculcoates, Pell Brough (no age listed and incorrectly listed as "Peter" Brough) of Sculcoates and Jane Braines (age 21--born about 1817) of Skirbeck, Lincolnshire, agreed to marry.
