On-going Research: According to Scottish tradition, "the first daughter" in a family was usually named "after the mother's mother". Therefore, Catherine's mother could have been named "Mary", since that was the given name of Peter and Catherine's first daughter. Interestingly, the IGI lists a Catherine McGregor, who was the daughter of Gregory McGregor and Mary Ross, and who was christened on 5 January 1823 in Middle Church, Paisley, Renfrew, Scotland--which is about 70 travel miles southwest from Perth where Peter Brough was born. Further research into this matter--and other possibilities--needs to be conducted.
