Thomas Brough

The christening for Thomas "Bruff" is listed in the IGI and LDS Ordinance Index (via the LDS Extraction Program), and can be found in the Hareby Parish Register (FHL Film # 1541985).

Geographical Note, May 2007:  The traveling distance between Hareby--where Thomas Bruff was christened, and Spilsby--where his children were christened, is less than four miles (3.82 miles).

The burial for Thomas "Brough" is listed in the Parish Register and Bishop's Transcript for Spilsby, Lincolnshire.

Research Note, May 2007:  Ethel M. Brough, RBFO researcher, stated the following on 9 May 2007: "The Parish Register (FHL Film # 1541987, years 1562-1845) and Bishop's Transcript (FHL Film # 504765, years 1562-1845) for Spilsby, Lincolnshire, had many badly damaged, soiled or faded pages.  However, even though they often differed from one another, I was able to get months or days or a name off of one film which I could not read in the other."  So the family members on this family group record is a combination of information obtained from both the Parish Register and Bishop's Transcript for Spilsby.

The IGI and LDS Ordinance Index contains a "Sealing to Spouse" for a Thomas Brough and Martha of Spilsby who were married "About 1724" and "Sealed" on 9 February 1996 in the Manti Temple.


Elizabeth Brough

The IGI or LDS Ordinance Index does NOT contain any listing for Elizabeth Brough (Broof), who was only listed in the Parish Register for Spilsby, Lincolnshire, England (see FHL Film # 1541987) as found by Ethel M. Brough in May 2007.

The burial for Elizabeth Brough is found in both the Parish Register and Bishop's Transcript for Spilsby, but the date is not readable in the Parish Register.


James Thomas Snarr

The birth, death and burial of James Thomas Snarr is listed in the IGI and the LDS Ordinance Index.

The christening of "James Thomas Snare" is listed in the IGI (via the LDS Extraction Program, FHL Film # 919451--which is the Bishop's Transcript for Drypool), and in the parish register of St. Andrew, Drypool Yorkshire (FHL Film # 1702901, Item #4)--which states that was christened on 13 December 1818 at St. Andrew, Drypool, Yorkshire, and that his parents were "Barton and Elizabeth Snare" of 'Rake Street", and that Barton Snare was a "Confectioner".

The LDS Temple Record for "James Thomas Snarr" states that he took out his own endowments in the Salt Lake City Endowment House (FHL Film # 183404, p.58) on "14 March 1856".  According to the endowment record, James stated that his parents were "Barton and Elizabeth Snarr", that he was born on "7 November 1818" in "Hull, York, England", and that he was baptized into the LDS Church in "November 1853".  Note: The LDS "Sealing to Spouse" marriage ordinance of "James Thomas Snarr" and "Harriet Brough" took place in the LDS Endowment House in Salt Lake City, Utah, on 1 April 1856.  This "Endowment House Sealing" record (FHL Special Collections Film # 183394, p.83) lists James Thomas Snarr as being born on 7 November 1818 in Hull, Yorkshire, England; and Harriet Brough as being born on 16 November 1820 in Horncastle, Lincolnshire, England.  This marriage sealing took place on 1 April 1856 in the Endowment House and was performed by H.C. Kimball, and the witnesses to the sealing were James Cummings and Jno. Lyon.

The 1851 British Census lists James T. Snarr as being about 32 years old (born about 1819), born in Hull, Yorkshire, married and working as a "Baker and Confectioner", and residing with his wife, Harriet, and two of their children (Thomas S. Snarr and Mary A. Snarr) in Bath Place, Holy Trinity, Kingston Upon Hull, Yorkshire.  Also residing with James and Harriet Snarr are two of Harriet's unmarried siblings: John Brough and Caroline Brough.

The 1860 U.S. Census lists James T. Snarr as being 41 years old (born about 1819), born in England, working as a "Laborer", and residing with his wife, Harriet, and seven of their children (Thomas, Mary Ann, Barton, James, Joseph, Harriet, and Daniel) in the 5th Ward area of Salt Lake City, Utah.

The 1870 U.S. Census lists James T. Snarr as being 52 years old (born about 1818),, born in England, working as a "Baker", and residing with his wife, Harriet, and seven of their children (Thomas S., Barton, James H., Joseph H., Harriet E., Daniel H., and Josephine) in the 6th Ward area of Salt Lake City, Utah.

The 1876 marriage of "James Thomas Snarr" and "Esther Rich" is listed the "LDS Endowment House Sealings Book K, 1875-1878 (FHL Special Collections Film # 183401, page 423), which states that they were married on 25 October 1876 in the LDS Endowment House in Salt Lake City, Utah; that James Thomas Snarr was born on "7 November 1818" in "Hull, England"; and that Esther Rich was born on "17 November 1811" in "Hull, Yorkshire".

The 1876 marriage of "James Thomas Snarr" and "Esther Rich" is listed the "LDS Endowment House Sealings Book K, 1875-1878 (FHL Special Collections Film # 183401, page 423), which states that they were married on 25 October 1876 in the LDS Endowment House in Salt Lake City, Utah; that James Thomas Snarr was born on "7 November 1818" in "Hull, England"; and that Esther Rich was born on "17 November 1811" in "Hull, Yorkshire".


Barton Snarr

The birth and christening of "Barton Snarr" is listed in FamilySearch (via FHL Film # 558355), which states that he was born on 5 March 1798 and christened on 5 August 1798 in Howden, Yorkshire, and that his parents were William Snarr and Mary Barton.

The marriage of "Bartley Snar" and "Elizabeth Sonley" is listed in the parish register of Holy Trinity, Hull, Yorkshire (FHL Film # 1703079, Item #9), which states that they were married by Banns on 12 February 1818; that Bartley Snar was "of this parish" and a "Confectioner"; and that Elizabeth Sonley was "of this parish" and a "Spinster".  The marriage was witnessed by R. Fletcher and Jane Young. Note: A church official wrote at the bottom of the entry that the grooms name was "Bartly Snarr".  Also, the marriage of "Bartley Snar" and "Elizabeth Sonley" is listed in the Bishop's Transcript for Holy Trinity Church, Hull, Yorkshire (FHL Film # 990829, Item #1), which states that they were married by Banns on 12 February 1818; that Bartley Snar was a "Confectioner" and "of this parish"; and that Elizabeth Sonley was a "Spinster" and "of this parish".  

The marriage of "Barton Snare" and "Dinah Borrill" is listed in FamilySearch (via FHL Film # 1703080, Item #6)), which states that they were married by Banns on 20 January 1841 at Holy Trinity church in Kingston-Upon-Hull, Yorkshire; that Barton Snare was "of full age" and a "Widower" and "Confectioner" of "West Street", and that his father was "William Snare", a "Farmer"; and that Dinah Borrill was "of full age" and a "Widow" of "New Dock Walls", and that her father was "the late James Betton", a "Farmer".  The marriage was witnessed by William Wilson and Ann Snare.  Note: On the marriage record, Barton Snare did not sign his name and it contained an X-mark, Dinah Borrill signed her own name, and Ann Snare signed her own name.

In April 2015, the BFO obtained a copy of the marriage certificate of "Barton Snarr" and "Mary Cotton" from England, which stated that they were married by Banns on 6 November 1859 in the parish church of Holy Trinity, Hull, Yorkshire; that Barton Snarr was 63 years old (born about 1796) and a Widower and "Baker" of High Street, and that his father was the "late William Snarr" who was a Labourer; and that Mary Cotton was 50 years old (born about 1809), a Widow of North Street, and that her father was the "late George Allison" who was a Butcher.  The marriage was witnessed by Thos. Hewon and Sarah Wharton.  Also, the marriage of "Barton Snarr" and "Mary Cotton" is listed in the online FreeBMD, which states that their marriage was registered in October-December 1859 in Hull district, Yorkshire.

The death of "Barton Snarr" is listed in the online FreeBMD, which states that his death was registered in April-June 1870 in Uxbridge district, Middlesex, and that he died when he was "74" years old (born about 1796).

In the 1841 Census, "Barton Snarr" is listed as being 40 years old (born about 1797-1801), born in Yorkshire, working as a "Baker", and residing with his apparent wife, "Dinah" (age 45), and his apparent daughter, Elizabeth Snarr (age 14), and his apparent older brother, William Snarr (age 55), at: Davis Street, Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire.

In the 1851 Census, "Barton Snarr" is listed as being 55 yerars old (born about 1796), born in Hull, Yorkshire, married and working as a "Confectioner", and residing with his wife, Diana (age 56), at: Market Place, Hornsea, Yorkshire.

In the 1861 Census, "Barton Snarr" is listed as being 64 years old (born about 1797), born in NY (possibly North Yorkshire), Yorkshire, married and working as a "Confectioner", and residing with his wife, Mary (age 54), at: Market Place, Hornsea, Yorkshire.

Barton Snarr was a "Baker", as described in a copy of the marriage certificate of James Thomas Snarr and Harriet Brough posted on Ancestry.com.  According to this marriage certificate, James Thomas Snarr and Harriet Brough were married by Licence at St. Mary's Church, Sculcoates, Yorkshire, on 12 November 1844, and James Thomas Snarr was of "full" age and a Bachelor and Mariner of the Parish of Holy Trinity, and that his father was Barton Snarr, a Baker; and Harriet Brough was of "full" age and a Spinster of Story Street, and her father was John Brough, a Labourer.  The marriage was witnessed by John Bradbury Jnr., and Harriet Darley.

Elizabeth Sonley

The birth, christening and death of Elizabeth Sonley is listed in the IGI (via multiple LDS Patron submissions).

The marriage of "Bartley Snar" and "Elizabeth Sonley" is listed in the parish register of Holy Trinity, Hull, Yorkshire (FHL Film # 1703079, Item #9), which states that they were married by Banns on 12 February 1818; that Bartley Snar was "of this parish" and a "Confectioner"; and that Elizabeth Sonley was "of this parish" and a "Spinster".  The marriage was witnessed by R.
